    So...... no effect then?

Of course. Why would it change anything as far as the Taliban are concerned?

Which is why he needs to start acting presidential! Don't apologize and don't bow. Stand straight and shake hands period.

He wasn't apologizing for the sake of the Taliban...

He was sending out the apology to acknowledge a mistake, one admitted to be a mistake by the leadership over there, to reassure the normal, non-radical Muslim world that that's not what we're over there doing...

    It's called diplomacy...

    (*)(*)(*)(*) the Taliban...

Nobody's apologizing to them for (*)(*)(*)(*)...

You will never admit he is wrong because you have stars in your eyes. Someday you will see clearer. I just hope it is not too late by then.

    I reckon it's a good strategy.

Each time an apology is rejected, Obama can turn up the heat and those who scorned the apology and attempt further damage probably get more covert responses than they bargained for.

It could partly be the reason that the US claims with confidence that the Taliban and the like are a lot less powerful than they were.

Bush (*)(*)(*)(*)ing apologized for a guy shooting at the Koran...

    It's not about stars...

It's about being a (*)(*)(*)(*)ing grown-up, and being able to take responsibility when necessary...

    It's about diplomacy...

This is why the grown-ups make decisions like this...

You guys would rather he said "(*)(*)(*)(*) you... So what?"

That's not how rational people behave...

Bush was a woos! Never liked him...ever, can't stand his father...Obama should not stoop so low as to apologize to anyone for anything. It embarrasses the USA to every other nation and sets a bad precedent.

    What a hilarious comment!

Obama apologized to the people who are our allies for doing something offensive to THEM, and YOU and CNS "News" feel that was a "mistake" because the Taliban, our ENEMY who we threw out of power and are killing daily, does NOT suddenly decide they LOVE us and will surrender!!

There are some "El Dumbos" around, but it is not the President.

    Doesn't matter...

The rational, normal Muslim population are our friends, and he was letting them know that that's not our SOP...

It sets far from a bad precedent...

It lets them know we've got our heads on straight, and are able to admit mistakes when they are made...

All these folks that say we are lying about what we're doing over in the ME will never believe us, even when we're telling the truth and not making mistakes like this...

What do think will happen when we are unable to admit mistakes, and we actually are lying about things that are happening?

Then, they're right about us, and I don't want these folks calling us the bad guys and being right about it...

    Because we're not...

It came off as a photo opp. The Military should handle it like they have in the past. Yes, he is Commander in Chief, but he should let his Generals handle something like that...quietly, as always, not as a photo opp.

Obama did the right thing by apologizing. We are doing the wrong thing by Occupying their country.....

This makes me think, Why are we over there? I keep forgetting the reason.

Explain what this "turning up the heat" about which you speak - and what would have prevented doing whatever it is you'll mention without the apology.

Apologies are weak. This president enjoys being weak. Your own leftists have admitted it - ask Silhouette, who just admitted that again yesterday.

    Weak.

I would imagine any sane person wants to be at peace with anyone else...

I'm also sure that he's aware that they're never going to want peace, the militants who are creating these problems never have, never will...

Like your Republicans. If you feel like that, why are you trying to colonize their country? They'll see you off, just as the Vietnamese did. You are like the nazis - stupid bullyboys, thinking you can rule people more intelligent than yourselves by murder. Pack it in.

Your country is on it's knees because of the dubious necessity of appearing strong when it isn't.

Apologies are meaningless. That's why politicians apologise. It gives an opportunity for breathing space before they repeat the same mistakes because the US, by pandering and purporting to be strong when the economy (which is the most important thing) is weak give a glowing effect. It's all smoke and mirrors.

It seems covert forces are taking out various undesirables quietly which should be the future policy. Government should stop broadcasting successes because it only creates political dissension without any benefits.

Interesting; then they would have a perfectly good reason to come and occupy us?

I suppose if we were to, say, hijack several passenger aircraft, and, fly them into several densely occupied buildings, fully intent on killing civilian men, women, & children, then, hide among men, women, & children in our country, and attack them using the civilian populace as decoys to cover up our attacks, all the while, killing massive amounts of civilians in our own country with bombings and shootings in public places, then, yes, I suppose they would have a legit argument as far as trying to occupy us...

    However...
