I'm not sure who you are or who you represent, but any fool from all political leanings predicted the very same outcomes. We all must be prophets!! It sounds like a case of another bright spark believing the strategic repetitive rhetoric convincing Australia through negative politics. I hand it to Abbott, it actually works, but for how long will people like you wake up to realities. It was the labour government who introduced superannuation; it was labour who floated the dollar; it is labour who are implementing the NBN; it is labour who are fixing our roads; it is labour who are fixing our schools; it is labour initiating renewable energy innovation; it is labour who are taxing mining companies(BHP profits= 24 billion annually) Rio Tinto probably close to the same, not to mention Rhinehart, palmer and co earning millions per hour, from resources we all own as aussies. The high speed of the mining economy is flattening further the slower through higher inflation and interest rates. It only makes sense to introduce a mining tax to counter balance this(Abbott knows this but is playing politics and with your emotions. Please inform me of major reforms of the right: I'll mention one, which happens to be the mother of all taxes. The carbon price pales into significance in comparsion - it is simply called the GST!! A 10% imposition on everything as opposed to a potential 0.7% imposition as a consequence of carbon pricing, which promotes innovation and use of renewable energy.

    First of all...

Labor is the correct spelling for the Labor Party not "labour"
Secondly, Im not interested in discussing the good or bad points of previous governments..
Im only interested in discussing the current government and its incompetence...
The GST, well, the mugs of Australia (aka us peasants voted for it so if you make your bed, you lie
    in it...)

    Aaah, she'll be right mate...

Howard promised there would be no GST, but still brought it in. Bloody liar.

How do you spell anal? I suppose the right in persuasion seem to be superficial in all arguments. The content is less important than the aesthetics of the cover. Incompetence to you is attention to petty detail, not the constructive overall benefit of a reform. The Howard government sat on their hands and did nothing. I'm sorry, they did save billions for our future fund.........but forgot to build roads, improve our health system, invest in education and develop our transport system etc etc!!!!!! It's easy to spruik off about billions of dollar surpluses if your not spending to develop the essentials!!!!!! Good on labour for giving it a dig and ensuring less people are dying on our roads and hospitals, admittedly with mistakes along the way, but hey, they have been a government who have worked hard to foreplan our futures. Incompetence is bringing in a gst that forced up inflation through higher housing costs and introducing negative gearing to price out first home buyers from getting a start. This is incompetence and fools like you complain about dotting i's and crossing t's. The GST was the only major reform they could come up with, but funnily enough it was a policy the labour government initially floated.

Give me Costello or Turnbull anyday. They would provide a unique balance. Abbott is just a divisive, self centred extreme right wing nutcase!

The only reference I have found to this is an article by Paul Murray and Jason Morrison, both 2UE jocks. I do believe that 3 flights are to be cancelled.
I would really like a reference to the actual budget document mention about this please, not just shock jocks looking to increase their ratings.

What drug are you on ,the one called Social reformist liberalism or the ALP is wearing off everyone else!

We live under the rule of a system called a political Duopoly ,how it works is through agreement between Both patries NOT to allow political chllenge by other political party's.This has been the case since the Liberals formed with a ALP split.esearch it comes in handy.

The significance of the ALP's demise is of a Historic and TERMINAL character ,crickey they have gone American model with the Latest Sydney council elections .the old Historically and culturally determined preselection process has been Junked by the decree of the President of Australia Julia Gillard.

Who for the first time in the history of the Penal Colony of NSW and Australia ,allowed permanent occupation militarily by a FOREIGN power in the Capital of the Northern Terriority US Imperialism Military Occupation Force AND GARRISON!

Thats what a Marine Battalion means Kiddies ,Wow a force fully armed and supported by sea and Air 10 %the size of the National standing Army ,and not a vote or discuusion in the parliament about it .Only possible for a servilloe sattelite of US Imperialism the former British colony now American colony of Austraaalllia.

I am feeling so Socialist republic its not funnyn ,oh ,lets look at the internal workings of government ,LETS NOT its even More embarrassing then usual and i was born to this place and others around the world may think me associated with it ,in canberra parlimebnt House of ,lets just not go there, yukkky stinking putrid NATIONALIST politics ,YUK!Squalour NOT politics of any form but Juvenille ,Venal ,putridity on a very low level of human grunting exchanges.enough said of the thing.

should DEPORT them in leaking Boats ,but no one else would take them.they would be rejected as humans of disrepute and war crimes.

If the julia Gillard Australian Party ,devoid of even nominal alliegence to the Working Class, wants to become Americanised then i say DEPORT THEM and their families.SEPTIC TANK TO THAT COBBERS!COOOEEEEEEE!

We live in ASIA get used to it ,the AnUS treaty \Alliance [formerly called ANZUS]has to be REVOKED ,ripped up and opposed evwen from the veiw of national Idependence.HELLO all you little vegemite skippy people in the land that sanity forgot ,OZ,you are now about to be occupied as a US Military Platform in ASIA ,just like WW2 again .GEE I WONDER WHAT JAPANESE CAPITALIST IMPERIALISM IS THINKING <DER!

not to mention CHINA,the new economic 'Asian miracle'hat when economically intergrated with japan ,well will be NUMREO UNO 'Free economic ZONE of wage slavery"bloody economically competative that may bring all WAGE LEVEL DOWN on the Globalised Labour Market Nationalist Outlook is so 19th century.

The coming 1700 Workers and all the rest should be immediately given FULL Citizen Rights and be made more then welcome to stay and their families bought as well with our thanks.Welcome to the proletariet of Asia we stand united !WE WORKERS OF ALL NATIONS AND NONE!

Amusing to see Gillard praise herself, stating how good the Australian economy is.

    NOT SO.

The RBA continues to reduce interest rates because the inflation rate falls outside the band that the RBA considers acceptable.
2,000 people are going to lose their jobs from Fairfax
20,000 public servants in Qld appear to be heading for the unemployment queues.
It wasnt that long ago that the Federal Government was propping up the motor industry with an influx of cash.
All the income tax that the Federal Government receives from salaries and wages from the jobs of the soon to be unemployed
runs into millions. The GST that people would normally be paying on full wages is also lost to the Federal Government, therefore
cannot be passed onto the States.
The unemployment rate is much higher than quoted as a worker only has to work a few hours and he is considered employed and is not counted in the unemployment rate.
800,000 people are on disability pensions.
These people are not included as unemployed.
The unemployment rate is probably closer to 12% than what we are told.

The Australian economy is NOT in good shape
It is, in fact, in a cleverly disguised, rooted condition.

The only reason our national debt is increasing is that the Federal Government continues
to increase our DEBT CEILING. When we cannot borrow any more because overseas countries
say "NO", then move over Greece, here comes Australia....

Blame Gina for that one - she just bought the company
And this is under an LNP government not a labor one
No there is only regional unemployment - some "out west" where I am and there is a standing and I mean STANDING job list in one company alone of 400 people. And that is just one company. WE cannot get good wait staff in the town because the mines pay more. We have shops and restaurants close due to lack of staff North West WA is the same.

You want a job - apply to work for one of the mines.........................

all have to be re-washed....imagine how sick everyone is....yeeahh get a job in the mines....

Not quite. The Dragon Lady hasn't bought Fairfax yet, she holds 20% shares and is demanding three seats on the board. She is also refusing to sign the Independence Charter for newspapers.

If all this goes ahead, Fairfax will become her own personal mouth piece.

LOL, yea blame someone who wasn't responsible but because she is rich and looking to get involved at a management level and it suits the ALP and political left propaganda. Have you asked yourself if she actually had anything to do with the people losing the jobs and the restructure at Fairfax, or are you just trumpeting what the Laybore party and the left media would portray to keep everyone ignorant and hating on the Libs and big business, ie successful people who know how to run stuff properly!?

Abbott is still on the nose, which is indicative of the latest newspoll. Abbott is a liability to the coalition, therefore don't think it will be over till the big girl sings on this one. He's got 6 months to keep himself restrained, can he do it? It was quite a good strategy to call an election this far out. Everyone is all ears at the moment and will be for the next 6 months, which means all that Abbott and his cronies say will be analysed intensely. Will be closer then we think.

    Gday folks

Well after a successful weekend on the punt I thought Id give you some odds for the next election:

    Coalition to win election $1.13
Coalition to win 101 seats or more $1.90
Coalition to win 91-100 seats $3.20
Total seats won by Independents One @ $1.50
Total seats won by Greens Zero @ $2.00
Total seats won by Greens One @ $2.10
Total seats won by ALP 41-50 @ $3.00

These prices are all the favourite prices and anything else is longer....
Tends to tell a story doesnt it...
