Hmmm... So everyone in the world is suffering so therefore he can use the tragedy to push his political agenda?

Somehow I doubt that if the OP had lost his mother or his wife to the virus, that he would be musing about our good fortune in regards to air pollution. I doubt if the OP were losing his business that he spent his entire life building and was facing imminenet financial ruin, that he would be musing about our good fortune in regards to air pollution. Obviously, not everyone is suffering equally. Obviously it is wrong minded to assume that since it impacts the entire world to some extent, that it therefore makes it fair game to point to a silver lining whereas you would not with an individual cancer sufferer. For those that are shouldering a particularly large misery burden from this pandemic, the OP musing about a politically motivated silver lining is downright disgusting.

It seems to me you are nitpicking his choice of words, but what he points out is being studied because this sort of natural experiment (observing how nature behaves when humans are no longer active) is a rare opportunity to see how how the ecosystems dynamically react.

This virus isn't the only thing that we have to worry about.

I am not nitpicking his choice of words. I am chiding him for celebrating a silver lining that results from this global pandemic/tragedy presumably because it supports his political ideals. I find it in extremely poor taste, and have provided a great deal more detail on that topic through my responses in this thread.

So you are surprised that a reduction in people driving results in lower rates of air pollution? To me, such a conclusion goes without saying. What is next? Are you going to relish the opportunity to view how markets dynamically react when the price of oil goes down as global supply increases and global demand decreases? Most people already know that answer, and thus do not view it is such a great or unique opportunity. You know the answer too, just as you already knew the answer to air pollution. In that sense, your purported pursuit of knowledge is questionable.

Check the suicide rates and compare them to the lives you say are saved.

I"ll make it as simple as possible. Even though folks might not die in a car accident or become injured from one, they still die. So, what really is the point that you're making here? Death happens to everyone. So far as we know, no-one has survived it. But feel free to insert some more irrational trump hate into a post that frankly you were the originator for. Have a nice day....:roflol:

I posted a pragmatic analysis of the long term economic benefits a couple weeks ago and got bashed for it. I’m no leftist. I think it’s just taboo to be pragmatic now no matter your political leanings when everyone is so emotional and living in fear of their own mortality.

Well, we don't want you to get sick. Maybe you should take an extended break from the forum.

I have mostly stopped any effort to have a productive discussion with trumpers. It is a waste of time. And while you may think this is fun and games, watching the death of a once great nation due to stupidity, is a profoundly sad thing to witness.

Within the Left is a degrowther movement. They don't advertise themselves a lot, but their thinking impacts their view toward freedom and liberty. And the freedom to exchange your labor for goods is a fundamental one that they want control of.

California City To Allow Reopenings, Declares Itself A ‘Sanctuary City’ For Business.
The Friday resolution passed by the Atwater City Council allows business owners to open, openly defying Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s coronavirus-related stay-at-home order.

The resolution affirms “the city’s commitment” to “fundamental” human rights. Churches and other nonprofits are included in the resolution, according to ABC30’s Vanessa Vasconcelos.

Coronavirus is more discriminating. It hammered NOLA after the Democrat Louisiana Governor, John Bel Edwards, decided to invite the world to Mardi Gras based on the low US case count at the time. It hammered NYC after Cuomo and deBlasio decided to invite the infected world to their Lunar New Year celebration. It hammered Madrid after Spain decided to invite global progressive cultists to celebrate International Women's Day. Unfortunately, the voters who demonstrably didn't have 2 neurons to rub together escaped the disaster their leaders created and spread it around.

Here's how New Yorkers shared the love:

If we could have kept these Democrat voters at home, the collective IQ of the US would have skyrocketed which alone would have suppressed the next outbreak of their scourge.

Yes. Gee Thanks Cuomo/De Blasio! Based on Cuomo's naming criteria, of calling it the Eurovirus because it came to New York via Europe, the rest of us should call it the Cuomovirus.

I always thought that Chris Cuomo was the dumbest of all the Cuomo's, but, I think Andy beats him by a nipple clamp.

Point well taken. Progressive pandemic would be more accurate. Who would travel to Madrid on March 8 and take part in this:
with an epidemic raging next door:

Answer: Lots of NYC progressives.Of course, that was after Cuomo's NYC Chinatown Lunar New Year celebration from January 25 - Feb 9 Jan25-Feb9-NYC-Chinatown.jpg

An increase of 1% in the unemployment rate can translate into 40,000 deaths. It's time to carefully reopen. Further, better outcomes are seen in areas where sick folks habitually wear masks, and better outcomes are seen where folks spend MORE time out doors. Time to marry those two findings and carefully resume work.

    Trump wins the lockdown wars.

President Trump has won the lockdown wars as coronavirus-related restrictions on businesses are eased across the country, so far with few signs of dire health consequences for the population.

Just weeks ago, the question was whether to reopen, with the first states to press ahead accused of engaging in human sacrifice and killing their residents to appease the “Trump death cult.”
Fake News New York Times columnist, noted idiot, Paul Krugman asked, “How many will die for the Dow?” as recently as Thursday.

Now, the debate is primarily over how quickly and to what extent reopening should take place, with the stragglers mainly blue states. Anthony Fauci, considered by many the public face of stay-at-home policies, now says the country can’t stay locked down forever. When Trump’s Easter target date was deemed unrealistic, Memorial Day weekend was floated as another possibility — and the grand opening is beginning.
