I am stating simple, straightforward facts. If you want to tweak the facts and make conclusions of your very own go right ahead. If you think the facts are irrelevant that's your business too but then why are we discussing the point?

 

It's kind of like asking why the gays who were open about it started rising after it became less of a problem to be open about it, or why interracial marriages and relationships increased after Loving v. Virginia. An increase in something that was previously hidden does not automatically mean an increase in actual occurrence.

Plenty of cultures throughout history have acknowledged third genders at a minimum. Your statement is patently false.

 

It seems to me that there's a chip on someone's shoulder who's expressing it with what is often called 'drama queening'. I don't think the result will be any better this time than it's ever been previously. Flat. Ugh. So, back to the OP, please.

You’re correct! Gender is a set societal norms and expectations that usually maps on to specific sexes. Sometimes it doesn’t.

 

The OP seemed to lack an understanding of what sexual dysphoria is and how it relates to the topic of gender identity.

I think you're probably missing the big issue. Either genitals matter ... or they don't. You can't just flip-flop at will and expect to be taken seriously.

 

Is that a common occurrence for you? What material harm has it caused you?

In my experience, I have only ever encountered people who have simply stated a preference for how they would like to be addressed. As a person who likes to be respectful to the people around me, I’ve never had a problem with adjusting to their preference.

Have your experiences gone significantly worse?

 

Gender dysphoria does not inherently require sexual dysphoria to be present.

In the case of GD without SD, a person may simply be uncomfortable with the social norms and expectations associated with their gender assigned at birth, but not be uncomfortable with the makeup of their body.

Whereas GD with SD would generally still include the uncomfortably with the societal norms and expectations, as well as uncomfortably with their sexual organs/characteristics.

I get that this is a complicated topic and I don’t expect all people to understand, but if you approach it with empathy and respect, it’s hard to go wrong. It’s just a matter of trying to treat people with kindness.

 

Sounds like you’re on the verge of discussing a traumatic experience. Feel free to keep it to yourself if that’s your preference.

Call me old fashioned but I still think certain problems ought to be discussed on a couch, not strewn about the community "in broad daylight". If the average man (or woman) is unqualified to deal with certain psychological problems then we shouldn't be accosted by gangs of the afflicted and be expected to appease them.

Seems to me 100 percent of the threads on this forum related to transgenders are related to denying them a choice, calling them mentally ill, claiming they are perverted, claiming they are militant, claiming they are grooming little children and so on. I have not seen one thread started by a transgender person trying to force their perspective on everybody. So when it is a problem and who is actually causing the problems?

The vast majority of people who have transitioned or are transitioning have already spent their time on the couch. The diagnosis of GD and SD is generally done by a clinical psychologist.

 

Not sure why you’re being so cryptic about your experience then… Discuss it or don’t.

But since you've now opened a new line of questioning and you are obviously interested in the results of it .....

Are they mentally ill? All of them? Some of them?

Are they perverted? All of them? Some of them?

Are they militant? All of them? Some of them?

Are they grooming little children? All of them? Some of them?

Is that the issue?
