This comes on the heels of a story about a homeowner who was arrested for trying to evict squatters. An effort like this seems like the next step. Can anything be done about squatters:

This is why you never go unstrapped when you leave your house. Go to the store or movies and come home and somebody has moved in and says it is there house.

That's very bad advice because when you go into the wrong home it's occupied the owner of that home in many states can legally blow you back out of that door in the commission of a home invasion or burglary

And if I come home and a stranger is in my house, that's walking into a burglary in progress.

And in many other states, the squatter can legally take over the home, and the homeowner will be arrested if they don't leave their own home!

Sounds unbelievable to many, but there's many videos about this.

Here's just one video: Squatter standoff captured on camera in Queens

They seem like nice people who only intend to come here and not violate our laws and live a fine upstanding life.

They're no longer a squatter if they have broken into the home, they are a burglar at that point.

I recall seeing this, and it was 'unoccupied' homes... I assumed it was in reference to the large number of homes that currently sit empty (no one living in them) due to people who bought them but won't rent them or sell them for a price that people can afford. Is this not accurate?

TO BE CLEAR- I do not support squatting or theft of homes. Real estate is one of the primary methods of storing wealth in the US. IT SHOULDN'T BE, but that is a problem we should fix with laws and regulations, not vigilantes.

But also there is a HUGE difference between home invasion and squatting. Stealing someone's home by force warrants self defense. Stealing someone's property that they arent using is and should be a crime, but its not really something to respond lethally about.

Just for context, since the 2008 financial crisis, investment firms were OK'd to invest in residential properties to stabilize the housing market. This succeeded so well that property values have skyrocketed since then, with investment firms buying up large swathes of the residential housing market to turn into expensive rentals. This is a large part of why Americans cannot afford to buy a home and are stuck renting. As I said, I don't support squatting or theft... but also I don't support govt regulations that allow corporations to monopolize the housing market and force Americans into a renter 'company store' style marketplace. There is a problem here that does need to be addressed.

If it were me, I'd go to the pound and adopt some rabid dogs.

I'd ask them to give me the rottweilers, German shepherds, and pitbulls, and tell them to give me the dogs that they think are too vicious to be adoptable.

I agree with you but when I said that this was bad advice what I was thinking is that just because a home appears to be unoccupied does not mean that it is indeed unoccupied.

And the only way to truly find out if someone hasn't left doors and windows open is to break into it

If someone breaks into your home, all bets are and should be off. Maybe they want your jewelry, maybe they want your wife and kids. I wont take any time to find out which.

If they wanna play the death lottery of 'is this house occupied when i bust in the door' that's on them.

The squatters will usually enter the home and establish themselves when they know you're gone.

They might lie and claim to have a lease, which is one typical tactic.

Sounds like a problem of local LE not doing their due diligence in establishing the legitimacy of a claimed lease. What are you suggesting is the solution?

These stories typically come from the New York City area, or California, or Massachusetts, or Seattle...

video: Evicting Drug Addicts: All in a Day's Work in the Ghetto in Cleveland Ohio | HoltonWiseTV Highlights

"Because of squatter's rights in Cleveland, Ohio, when squatters are caught living in your home, you can't just kick them out for trespassing. You have to go through the normal eviction process just like you would have to do with an actual tenant who was not paying their rent. Evicting drug addicted squatters is all part of a day in the life of a property manager with rental properties in the hoods of Cleveland."

of course because in liblandia... The criminals have more rights than the law abiding taxpayers

The police are becoming more and more useless by the day. The people that were in the home had absolutely not established any sort of legitimate claim.

I would be absolutely raising hell with the mayor. Or directing my lawyer to do so.

Don't worry. The police will be very proactive in removing the undesirable by force very quickly. Politicians don't have to worry about anything, per usual. It's why property owners need to handle things the only way they can now, if the police aren't going to protect them.

The criminal gets a house and the victim gets arrested. Good job.

Like all things woke, progressives are determined to give the party opposite the logical choice the benefit.

    Criminals > Police

    Teachers > Parents

    Squatters > Homeowners

    Tenants > Landlords

    Employees > Business Owners

It's like living in the world of upside down.

It's like they wake up everyday trying to figure out how to satisfy their Robinhood desires.

It depends on where you live and how many 'woke' Democrats are in power in your city. The more Democrats you have in local power, the greater the likelihood that YOU as a home-owning American citizen don't deserve any protection from illegal alien invaders in this country! THIS is what Democrats have turned this country into!

Sell your house and leave before the city goes into Sharia Law and just gives your house to someone else.

As the homeowner I would do everything legally possible to make their existence there, a living hell. You have to be creative in these situations
