I don't know but if he could do it and did it, he would lose a bunch of senior votes. Even threatening it will do that. The problem is that SS and Medicare aren't entitlements. They are programs that were paid by the recipients throughout their working career. Losing it would be akin to investing in a stock and then having the company go bankrupt. It isn't likely to happen, all bluster aside.

“If I’m victorious on November 3rd, I plan to forgive these taxes and make permanent cuts to the payroll tax” ... “I’m going to make them all permanent” ... “In other words, I’ll extended beyond the end of the year and terminate the tax

This has been posted numerous times, it is becoming willful ignorance at this point.

a tax cut isn’t termination of a tax. it’s just less if the tax

Less of the tax means less revenue for the program means he intends to cut social security benefits.
I am glad we finally agree — even though you still ignore the word terminate.

those are all drastic assumptions not based in reality. SS is headed to be insolvent already...reform is needed and been needed for decades the dems continue to ignore it. They are killing

As one of those retirees dependent upon Social Security, wtf does he expect us to live on? Why would anyone want to mess with that?

What is different now is that as of his Executive Order yesterday Trump has actually messed with Social Security.

Wrong forum, you posted an opinion piece that twists the words of the President.

Here is the admission by the commie dreams writer.....was really a backdoor sabotage effort.

Just because SS is projected to be bankrupt in 14 years is no reason to give Trump a pass for accelerating the collapse of a system many people depend on for retirement.

His exact words said nothing about terminating Social Security.......that's where the "opinion" comes in.

He specifically said “terminate the tax”

“If I’m victorious on November 3rd, I plan to forgive these taxes and make permanent cuts to the payroll tax” ... “I’m going to make them all permanent” ... “In other words, I’ll extended beyond the end of the year and terminate the tax”

Quoting him directly is now opinion. Interesting

LOL. If we zeroed the budget for cops, that isn't eliminating cops?

Social security, Medicare and all related funds would dry up in 2 years based on current reserves.

The claim has been that the system will go broke in 2034. Do have any actual information that indicates otherwise? Do you understand how demographics impact the system? Do you understand the how the ratio of people paying into the system to people receiving benefits has changed and is projected to change? Should you comment be considered a platitude or a cliche.

There are no "reserves". It's just a fiction. They have a bunch of IOUs, and the Congress could simply fund SS/Medicare every budget period, like it does everything else. There is no direct link between payroll taxes and SS/Medicare. They tell you there is a link, because what they don't want you to realize is that SS is basically redistributionist welfare that leads to millions of seniors living on the dole whilst pretending that they "paid into it."
