Could be a Korean war. My modern history of the U.S. is a bit sketchy. :D

Some people are just psyched out by Putin and his tough guy act. They forget that he is just another human playing poker.

For what it's worth, I heard U.S. pilots say that the American made F/A-18 and the Russian Mig-29 are virtually impossible to tell apart in aerial combat.

Well Russia absolutely retaliate against our economic sanctions. They are not cost free. Expect a lot more hacking attacks in the future. But it seems as if there is a war with NATO, right now it looks like NATO will be the one to instigate it. Let me ask you this: if NATO allows Ukrainian Air Force combat missions to fly out of a military base in Poland, does that make that base a legitimate military target?

But I'm more worried about the hysteria getting politicians to commit to a no fly zone over Ukraine. I think the implementation of that will be the start of a Russia-NATO war.

You've already stated you want a no fly zone. So your goal is NATO vs Russia, not simply settling for some smuggled arms to Ukraine.

I prefer fighter jets and arms. I advocate a no-fly zone only as long as our military and intelligence leadership is comfortable with that.

Well, if they are not, then they’ll just have to continue to fight with the help they can get.

I see a couple of SAM batteries are on their way to Poland. A step in the right direction?

    Yes.
I think something is coming, that’s for sure. They could probably find a few volunteers who know how to operate those things and sign them up into Ukrainian territorial defense units on expedited basis. :)

I am not sure I understand. When you say Russia will absolutely retaliate against our sanctions are you saying they will nuke us, attack NATO countries with conventional weapons, use hacking attacks against us or try to impose economic sanctions on us. Those 4 levels of response are greatly different.

When you say NATO will be the ones to instigate the war are you referring to economic sanctions or a future attack by NATO military? Because as you said if it is economic sanctions we started that 8 years ago so we already started the war if that is the case.

In answer to your question: I do not think we should let Ukraine fly combat missions out of Polish air bases. I believe if we did that they would become a fair target.

In the middle of a war, and significant geopolitical issues at stake, some silly comments by Trump befitting his image among most everyone except his cult-like followers, has a thread running for several pages. One side presumably (I haven't been following the thread) trying to prove the obvious on this issue (while impervious to more complicated but equally obvious issues with the side whose brief they are carrying); the cult, on the other hand, trying to convince themselves if no one else, that bozo the clown is some great geopolitical thinker.

Since I explicitly stated that we should expect a lot more hacking attacks in the future, I'm not sure what's the confusion about how I think Russia will retaliate to sanctions.

I don't think Putin is looking to initiate an armed conflict with NATO, but there are several factions in the West who want to do just that, (the no fly zone fanboys) so that's why I think if this breaks out into World War III, it will be because we instigated direct military action against Russian forces and the Russians retaliate and so on...

I doubt any NATO country is going to support a no fly zone, not unless Ukraine joins NATO or the EU (which, contrary to the Putin/fascism fanboys, they have every right to do). But if Putin were so interested in peace, he shouldn't have instigated war by invading a sovereign nation to satisfy his imperialistic urges. He's the bloodthirsty one here, not NATO. I don't think anyone short of a lobotomy patient is incapable of seeing that.

That's a bizarre point as far as being a reply to my comment. No one claimed Putin is interested in peace. That's not even relevant.

The reason I asked to clarify was because our conversation is centered around the your fear that you believed our actions would lead to a nuclear war. Since as I said the only thing WE were discussing was (1) supplying the Ukrainians and (2) economic sanctions I did not see that as a likely outcome.

IF Russia was to increase hacking attacks I fully support us increasing cyber attacks in return. If that was to happen would you blame Putin or us for the escalation?

My thought would be if Putin does not escalate to an armed conflict I do not think we would do it first. I do not see us as being the first to fire on Russian planes or troops.

Putin could nuke the US tomorrow and most of these guys would still blame Biden over Putin. Hell, as long as he hit a blue state, they'd probably throw confetti.

I think it is hilarious that people cannot get a joke and take things too literally. It makes the joke even that much more laugh out loud funny that some people are that dense.
