Look around. We have PLENTY... from Hamas to ISIS to Hezbollah and many other terrorist organizations, to Iran (They call us "the Great Satan", to Russia, to China, to North Korea and plenty more, like the Houthis.

And right now our military is the smallest it has been since 1939. I'm not a big supporter of Haley, but her idea of expanding the military is SPOT ON.

Money has nothing to do with it. Military age Americans have been taught that the USA is repressive and racist with screwy propaganda. I joined the military when most, like me, joined out of a feeling of patriotism. The left has stifled such feelings.

 

The reason in England was because the church backed WW1, told their members that it was Gd's will to kill Germans
while the church in Germany told their flock to kill the French and the English,
and in the end, in retrospect, all that happened was old people in the church
hierarchies, got young people in the churches killed and disabled,

and not people still don't trust the church.

Yes, I've heard a number of veterans say that, and it also applies in other countries too.

Unfortunately the left has a point - their leaders are sending our military on futile missions.

The Democrat Pres. Johnson got 58,000 US servicemen killed in a war that killed over 3 million Vietnamese peasants.
The present Democrat administration has got 500,000 Ukrainians killed in a war which if people only made a tiny bit
of effort would discover doesn't have any worthwhile goal, oh yeah, to prove Ukraine has a right to join NATO, no,
no country has a right to join NATO, and the specific bit the Russians have a problem with is siting nuclear armed
missiles right up to the border of Russia.

But as with Vietnam it will be a decade before people work that out.

We can't trust the govt not to abuse our military.

 

I spent decades in the military. I never ran into anyone that thought they were "abused" at all.

The military never lost a major battle in Viet Nam. Tactically, our military won. "Peaceniks" on Main Street USA lost the war for us. Both Houses of Congress approved the Vietnam War and funded it fo years. That's how democracy works... Votes and all that stuff, you know.

Ukraine never joined NATO so any speculation about how it has a "right" to is of little value. "Would'ves", "could'ves" and "should'ves" shrink to insignificance in the light of what actually happened... in the light of FACTS. And NATO never stationed offensive strategic missiles that threatened Russia within Ukraine... that's just more vacuous speculation.

I do agree with your conclusion about Ukraine though. I am still searching for something about Ukraine that is essential to US National Security. Its not NATO. It has no resources essential to our security. It has no industry essential to the US (like Taiwan has 50% of the world's out put of microchips). So I still wonder why we are sending hundreds of billions of dollars of war equipment to secure Ukraine's borders while we leave our own borders wide open.
