Ok, so who should we thank for two below-average death rates?

Oh, wait it's the wrong forum for that debate!

Why would you thank anyone? The very nature of averages dictates some years have to be below average.

Because President Trump is thought to have sabotaged the medical health insurance system in America at that time. But if you look at the time when people should have been at their worst medically, instead the death rates are lower. This is all pre-pandemic death rate.

Ah, like magic. Some how the "based on" reminds me of those movies that start out saying "based on a true story", and your graph was "based on" a true story supposedly. Meanwhile the rest of us can live in the real world.

As I said, get someone that understands math to explain it all to you.

Because 2021 is only half over, thus they do not know what the death rate for 2021 will be.

How can they show data for a year that is not yet complete?

The lack of basic statistical knowledge demonstrated in this thread really highlights the poor education in US schools. Some don't even understand the definition of "average" and "rate" or how a graph is plotted

Of course, because instead of actually studying to be able to understand and interpret graphs, it is much easier to just claim "Trump = good, Biden = bad". You don't have to exert one milli Joule of brain power to come to this simplistic conclusion as a Trump fan living 24/7 in Fox news land.

Not going to lie, was a tad surprised someone was complaining that the data from a year not even half over was not included in the graph.

That's one plausible theory but the opening graph of this thread suggests that somehow the death rates soared 16% in 2020. That number doesn't show up other places like say, the census bur. so for now at least we're going to have to take it w/ one heck of a grain of salt.

Couple that w/ the fact that there's apparently no way of tracking down the source of the graph's methodology so my take (for now at least) is that it's bogus. Ah, and I've had to "ignore" Darth whatshisname. For now at least.

Covid is worse than the normal flue - but, 15% above the normal death rate is not exactly folks dying in the streets due to plague.

It is the highest above average we have ever been, that is not insignificant

Significant relative to what - If I have a population of 1 million - and the ave death rate is 1000 - and one year we have 1150 - sure .. this is an increase over the norm .. but the number extra deaths is insignificant relative to sample size.

You can run around and cry "OMG" a 15% increase - but as I stated - and as you misrepresented - as I said nothing about it not being "Not" significant and in fact qualified the significance in 2 ways ... worse than a normal flue - but not the bubonic Plague either.

Now you have further quantification - .to put things in perspective ..
