UE is at 3.5%. Who's going to fill more jobs and more industry? Immigrants? And when has the debt caused a recession? Recessions are a slow down, actually negative growth in the economy.
I meant higher paying jobs, or put another way, higher level of demand fueling each job. That's the only way wages will rise, working conditions will improve, employers will become less discerning who they choose to hire, and businesses will be willing to provide training.
If you don't like taxes, and like debt, then you must be thinking Trump is doing a good job. You will complain no matter what his policies are.
The Fed is talking about a rate cut. But I don't think they know what to do. They can see the economy going south, but the tariffs are causing some inflation. There must be a name for this, but I don't know what it is.
That is a different question than the one being addressed. Outsourcing our manufacturing sector for foreign lands cost huge amounts of Jobs - obviously. In addition - tax laws which support outsourcing by taxing goods manufactured in the US at a higher rate than those manufactured outside the US was economic suicide. The international financiers that run this nation have screwed us. When they have milked this cow dry they will move on to the next sucker - leaving us with a pile of debt and leaving us reliant on other nations for the products we consume.
So all of this means you think we just go back to status quo and allow China to continue to slowly bleed us. I'm no expert on international trade so I wont try to make any claims that Trumps methods are the best possible way to go about fixing this. What I can say with complete confidence is that for the first time in the last 20 years, the President isnt rolling over and giving up. I've read dozens of articles about how bad the tariffs are and how they hurt the US. I've read dozens from the same media outlets about how Chinese theft and manipulation cost US companies 10s of billions a year. What I havent seen mentioned is an alternative to Trumps approach that hasnt been tried and failed a half dozen times already. Theres no doubt that the trade war will cause some pain. Maybe it's time the US deals with a little short term pain and does a few hard and unpopular things that are necessary in order to achieve long term goals.
What are the goals of this tariff war with China? Bring jobs back to the US - there are alternative sources which are being used now so no US jobs will ever come back. Stop US tech companies manufacturing in China - you could do that now by directly penalizing those US tech companies without any Chinese involvement
You force US tech companies back to the US where wages are higher and the cost of the goods will increase. Americans won't like that much.
How about stopping govt mandated IP theft, currency manipulation, and industrial espionage. Then maybe getting Chinese markets opened up for American goods. Or is free trade and following laws too much to ask for?
Their own consumer products? Which products are those? Everything China is, is based on technology, and innovations from the west. We've gotten nothing truly original from the Chinese except won ton soup. Their biggest dam in the world, their biggest radio telescope, their space exploration, their most popular exports, their military tech is all based on things created and designed by the West. It is bit sociopathic that the Chinese don't seem to care that everyone knows they steal and cheat.
Explain how free trade with China would be beneficial for the US and how it will get back jobs into the US. The rest of your post is unrelated to tariffs
A market with 1.4 billion people. In case you haven't noticed the US makes a lot of money from foreign countries.
If there was free trade with China, the trade deficit would increase. In summary, everyday items will always be cheaper to make in China than in the US
So you dont think Chinese markets open to US manufactured good would be a good thing for US manufacturers? If that's not the meaning of your original comment I have no clue what you were talking about.
Well no actually. China as a developing nation has higher tariffs than the US. So free trade would open up their markets some more. But your right their stuff made with high labor content will always be cheaper. We should be worrying about making our robots smarter than theirs if we don't want to lose some more business.
It could also be called realism, which exists on the part of the evil lefties as opposed to the dream conceptions of the righties.
You do know that this IP theft is occurring because US companies are manufacturing their goods in China and then importing those goods back into the US? Hence why it is in your hands to stop this without anything to do with China What everyday US goods can the Chinese not maker cheaper? The Chinese market is already open to your higher cost tech and food exports Already answered - free trade would be disastrous fore the US employment figures. Free trade can only viably exist between countries of similar economy
Those higher tariffs are more aimed at other developing nations competing with Chinese companies that manufacture the same products. Developing nations tend to have higher import tariffs. IMO one of the greatest mistakes made by US policy in recent years is to step back from renewable energy technology and research. The US were the leaders a few years ago but very soon (if not already) China and other far Eastern countries will take over that position. There will be a huge market that has been lost
