    Agreed.

However, as long as their leaders threaten to wipe Isreal "off the map" and feel OK to shout about their wish of death in parliament to some western countries, then they cannot be allowed the right to nuclear power.

Why don't you do some research on EXACTLY what was said.. Look for a verbatim translation.

    Best,

    :ignore:

I have, thanks. I am very aware of the "alternative translation" for their remarks towards Israel.

Iranian radio radio reported Iranian MP's chanting "Death to Britain" after sanctions were put in place. Whats the alternative explanation for that?

I could murder a pint but I won't be taking out a gun and shooting one, thinking you could actually murder a pint would be as stupid as thinking you could kill a country.

"Death to" translates to "down with" in English.

Of course it does. Thanks for clearing that up. I feel enlightened.

This is like saying 'I am.' is an alternative translation of 'Ich bin.' The original quote was in Farsi, and the English translation was made by several accomplished linguists - it was the translation, not an 'alternative translation'. There is no such thing as an alternative translation - there can be alternative interpretations, but an alternative translation is a nonsense.

I don't support conflict with Iran. I support war against the United Kingdom.

Then kindly translate these signs for us. These are from a 2010 march in Tehran.

I am not sure, maybe I am not a very good translator though. Can you give us a more clear translation?

LOL, you arrogant colonials tried that in 1812. It didn't work out so well. Canada is still a Monarchy, and Washington had to rebuilt. Try it again - do! :-D

I thought I had already explained this.

"Death to" is the usual method of showing dislike for and opposition to in Middle Eastern countries much the same as we say "Down with".

You didn't really think they were seriously advocating wiping out everyone in an entire country did you? Hadn't you noticed they use the phrase for abstracts as well?

Canada is not a monarchy. It is a parliamentary democracy. Get your facts straight.

I see you hold the American people in contempt. You're stereotypically British.

Edit: Canada is an American protectorate. The Queen as the Canadian head of state is simply an artificial intellectual construct. It means nothing.

But these signs are in English. If they mean "down with", then they should say "down with".

This is the kind of apologist talking that I always dispise.

It is also a Constitutional Monarchy, as is Great Britain, Australia and New Zealand. Queen Elizabeth II is a Constitutional Monarch, and the Head of State of all those countries. Parliamentary Democracy and Constitutional Monarchy are not mutually exclusive.

No, quite the reverse. I only hold arrogant Americans who wish me and my society ill, in contempt. And before you sling off about British stereotypes, you might do well to examine the picture the world has of the typical American.

LOL, Alice through the looking glass stuff. :-D

Nope, not Alice, the Mad Hatter, the Red Queen or the Cheshire Cat. Rather, NAFTA...the tie that binds.

Yep, as I suspected - fantasy land!

Ask your average Canadian how close he feels to America, and what he thinks of your society. I have.

My mother was Canadian. Half of my relatives are Canadian. I understand their ambivalence at the fact that their economy, culture and national security have been joined at the hip with America's. But Canada and America are destined to be together. Britain is alone in the world.

Yes, I think ambivalence is the most polite euphemism which may be employed here - good choice! :-D

Canada can't live with us and it can't live without us. Like a pair of star crossed lovers who cant get away from each other. Meanwhile, Britain drifts on a sea of isolation and disaffection.

My compliments - you have a way with words, that was positively poetic. :)

Now you need to do a little work with your facts.
