Like Willie Brown said in his SF Chronicle op-ed, California better figure out a way to let the people out quick, or the people are going to get out all on their own.

I believe he's looking into moving some production to Texas, if that's what you mean.

Little shrimpy guys like Fauci normally don't have such massive power, I'm not surprised that he finds it a bit intoxicating.

Restaurants in Washington state will be required to keep a log of each dine-in customer to facilitate contact tracing during phase two of the state’s coronavirus reopening plans.

As part of the requirements, the log must be maintained for 30 days and must include each customer’s telephone number and email address, and what time they came in to eat, according to officials.

We could have a lot of FREEDOM and PROSPERITY voters in Nov.

I've noticed that people who don't want the economy to open up and want corona to go on and on fall into three categories:

    1. Political. They want it to last through the next election, to nullify Trump's economy. They think it will "take out Trump."
    2. Economic. As Libby suggested, some people are actually financially better off now than when they were working.
    3. Drama. Some (even in my family, yikes!) are enjoying the drama of this crisis. These mostly fall in the 25-35 years range and this is their 9/11 and no one is going to take it away from them!

In between, there are a few people who are genuinely terrified. We can try to calm their fears by citing facts, like that the virus really hasn't turned out to be as fatal as previously thought, and that you have probably more chance of dying from the flu than corona. The way you can tell the difference between those who are really scared and those who fall into one of the above categories is if they get FURIOUS when you try to calm them, they have an inner motive for wanting corona virus to continue.

At some point in time their critical thinking chip was replaced with a "projection" chip.

Cute little cartoons and all, but wasn't the shutdown for the purpose of keeping hospitals from being overwhelmed, which hasn't happened. That's not the shutdown reason any longer? Now we need to stay down till the virus is gone? A year, maybe longer?

This virus has sure stripped the totalitarian masks from the smug "progressives". All they really have is their smug self-righteous sneers and the deep desire to use government to control others:

    The Lockdown Class War.

There is a class divide between those who are hard-line on lockdowns and those who are pushing back. Professionals on one side—the managerial elite —and regular people on the other. The overclass are highly educated and exert outsize influence as managers and leaders of important institutions—hospitals, companies, statehouses. The normal people aren’t connected through professional or social lines to power structures, and they have regular jobs—service worker, small-business owner.

Since the pandemic began, the overclass has been in charge—scientists, doctors, political figures, consultants—calling the shots for the average people. But personally they have less skin in the game. The National Institutes of Health scientist won’t lose his livelihood over what’s happened. Neither will the midday anchor.

This divides the protected versus the unprotected. Red states vs blue states.

It’s not that those in red states don’t think there’s a pandemic. They’ve heard all about it! They realize it will continue, they know they may get sick themselves. But they also figure this way: Hundreds of thousands could die and the American economy taken down, which would mean millions of other casualties, economic ones. Or, hundreds of thousands could die and the American economy is damaged but still stands, in which case there will be fewer economic casualties—fewer bankruptcies and foreclosures, fewer unemployed and ruined.

They’ll take the latter. It’s a loss either way but one loss is worse than the other. They know the politicians and scientists can’t really weigh all this on a scale with any precision because life is a messy thing that doesn’t want to be quantified.

The working-class people who are pushing back have had harder lives than those now trying to determine their fate. They haven’t had familial or economic ease. No one sent them to Yale. They often come from considerable family dysfunction. This has left them tougher.

They look at these scientists and reporters making their warnings about how tough it’s going to be if we lift shutdowns and they don’t think, “Oh what informed, caring observers.” They think, “You have no idea what tough is. You don’t know what painful is.” And if you don’t know, why should you have so much say?

The overclass says, “Wait three months before we’re safe.” They reply, “There’s no such thing as safe.”

Some governors are playing into every stereotype of “the overclass.” On Tuesday Pennsylvania’s Tom Wolf said in a press briefing that those pushing against the shutdown are cowards. Local officials who “cave in to this coronavirus” will pay a price in state funding. “These folks are choosing to desert in the face of the enemy. In the middle of a war.” He said he’ll pull state certificates such as liquor licenses for any businesses that open. He must have thought he sounded uncompromising, like Gen. George Patton. He seemed more like Patton slapping the soldier. No sympathy, no respect, only judgment.

Michigan Gov. Gretchen "Half" Whitmer called anti-lockdown demonstrations “racist and misogynistic.” She called the entire movement “political.” It was, in part—there have been plenty of Trump signs, and she’s a possible Democratic vice presidential nominee. But the clamor in her state is real, and serious. People are in economic distress and worry that the foundations of their lives are being swept away. How does name-calling help? She might as well have called them “deplorables.” She said the protests may only make the lockdowns last longer, which sounded like a threat.

When you are reasonable with people and show them respect, they will want to respond in kind. But when they feel those calling the shots are being disrespectful, they will push back hard and rebel even in ways that hurt them.

And if your words and behavior cause such a reaction, you’re doing “public health” wrong.

I’m sorry, I can’t buy into such dystopian thinking. Biden has been in the West Winv when there have been outbreaks before, specifically the last theee. Zika. Ebola and H1N1. That experience is what makes him qualified to be sworn into office during the aftermath of this pandemic.

But this thread isn’t about Biden, it’s about taking our liberties back. Without guns blazing.

And when they're dying in the streets those cute red states who celebrated their liberty by killing one another to get a haircut or go to the movies will plead for help as they do every time there's a hurricane, tornado, or flood.

The lockdowns were the idea of the CDC and Fauci is not head of the CDC, Trump declared a national health emergency and put out directives and the Governors followed them...All perfectly legal the supreme court has backed them in the past.....The economy tanked a month before the national an state emergencies were declared and layoffs were inevitable because of the stock market losses and the supply chain being halted..

Funny you say that when it's the democratic run cities who have been the hardest hit and made up most of the cases and deaths.

    Then.

But those places are working with a plan.
What's the plan for a launch next week with a quarter million people potentially coming to a the Titusville-cocoa area to watch?
What's the plan to pack another 3/4 million into Disney/Universal/Sea World?

Oh, I know. We'll take our chances. After all the 1919 pandemic only killed 500k Americans.

Of course that pandemic "only" killed .5% of the US population. Extrapolate and we're looking at 1.5 MILLION DEAD.

But, hey, gotta get that beer. Gotta go clubbin.

No different than when the blue areas open in a few weeks. The virus will still be here. Learn to live with it.
