Why didn't rosa parks just sit in e back of the bus? Why did she refuse to give up her seat to a white person? The only reason not to move to the back was probably just to prove a point. It seems she was being spiteful.

    Sounds ridiculous doesn't it?

What if I claimed my religious beliefs don't allow me to let blacks stay at my hotel? Is that ok too?
It doesn't really matter if blacks have to sit in the back of the bus, why? They are sitting down just like the white people at the front.

And you are free to believe anything you want. You are not free however to discriminate based on those beliefs.

What does that have anything to do with my argument?

Besides, your comparison is very irrelevant. During the Civil rights era, there were very few buses which allowed black people to sit in the front of the bus. Nowadays, most bakeries probably aren't religious, so most bakeries probably wouldn't "discriminate" against a gay couple who wants a cake for their wedding.

Why anyone chooses to do anything is irrelevant.

    As Rahl said

the law says you can't discriminate. your religious freedom isn't limitless.

That has nothing to do with what I'm trying to say. Why did that gay couple sue the baker? I know why. They were trying to prove a point. They were being spiteful. In my opinion, if they were so offended by the baker's "discrimination", they should have just gone to another baker to get a cake. Gee, most people aren't even Christians, so I guess the majority of bakers wouldn't "discriminate".

You are guessing why. You are choose to believe that they are being spiteful.

If a black couple went to a bakery and the bakery owner said 'we don't serve (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)s' they could of course just go to another bakery.

But the bakery owner would have violated the law, and I would applaud the couple for sueing the owner rather than just sucking up the discrimination.

If a black couple was getting married, regardless of what ignorant racists think, it's still a marriage; between a man and a woman. However, gay marriage, like polygamy, is not recognized or blessed by God.

Christians do not hate gays, but they strongly disprove of homosexuality, from a moral perspective. You can't compare Christians with racists. Racists don't respect others, but true Christians, who obey the Bible, do respect gays as people. Gay people know that true Christians are not motivated by hate.

Really- are you on first hand speaking terms with God?

You really ignored the point- which is that the couple has an obligation to follow the law- whether their faith said don't serve Gays or don't serve Blacks- they do not have the option to ignore the law.

Some Christians do hate gays. Some Christians don't disaprove of homosexuality. I can compare Christians with racists because I still remember being told by a good Christian girl how her minister told her congregation that God didn't approve of inter-racial relationships.

I find that every Christian claims to be a "True Christian" but always suspect those who claim to know what a 'True Christian" is. The history of the Christian church is rife of schisms because people thought they knew what a "True Christian" was.

Your 'God' doesn't determine what the law is. I don't require your blessing, nor that of your alleged God.

We don't live in a Christocracy. Christians are not the boss of everyone else, much as a few mouthy examples would like to be.

Does not matter what your bible says about homosexuality. Your religion does not make the law. Period. We'd get along a lot better if you'd realize that.

I really love the Bible- that is Paul isn't it? So here is what the quote is part of

When one of you has a grievance against another, does he dare go to law before the unrighteous instead of the saints? 2Or do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world is to be judged by you, are you incompetent to try trivial cases? 3Do you not know that we are to judge angels? How much more, then, matters pertaining to this life! 4So if you have such cases, why do you lay them before those who have no standing in the church? 5I say this to your shame. Can it be that there is no one among you wise enough to settle a dispute between the brothers, 6but brother goes to law against brother, and that before unbelievers? 7To have lawsuits at all with one another is already a defeat for you. Why not rather suffer wrong? Why not rather be defrauded? 8But you yourselves wrong and defraud—even your own brothers!a

9Or do you not know that the unrighteousb will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality,c 10nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

So as a Christian, do you believe that Christians should not sue one another?

What about lesbians- Paul doesn't say anything about lesbians- but he does about drunkeness.

Should drunks or adulterers not be allowed to get married.

Here's what I really like about same sex marriage.
It redefines family, not much, but a first step.
Because real families, extended families, do not fare well in our economic system, we have the ultimate anti-family environment between the free market, the church and the state, the three most anti-family forces in existence. And extended families provided most of the social services in the past.
That leaves us with the nuclear family which is a highly unstable transition state, with a huge failure rate, and the nuclear family is terrible at delivering social services.
So to build stable, peaceful societies, we need a new kind of family.
Something with more mass than a nuclear family, I'm not sure what it will look like, it will have to evolve, but something is needed, and it's exciting to see the first movement in the direction of a brave new world.

Drawing a parallel between racial discrimination and sexual orientation discrimination

    How?
I was showing the ridiculousness of your argument

First, you'll need to prove the existence of your god if you're going to use it as an argument. Second, marriage is a legal institution, religion is irrelevant.

Of course we can compare Christians with racists.
The. You should have no problem with this couple suing the bakery

    Hang on a sec...

Doesn't the Bible also have a few choice teachings about adultery, tattoos, diet, and animal sacrifice as well?
Why is it you can discard those parts and cherry pick which of your beliefs you can force others to abide by?

Given the seperation of church and state, how is it even relevent what the Bible says?
Gay people should be able to get legally married just like the rest of us.

Exactly. See some people don't get that their religious freedom ends where other people's rights begin.

First of all the state doesn't recognize any religion or the presence of any religion in marriage. The state has no business in your religion, and you need never enter a church to be married.

More over, your religious rights end where my rights begin.

Second...you may want to look into the history of the KKK..it was founded by good southern "christians."

Really? I believe that's either dangerously naive or an outright lie.

Exactly. And this is also what I don't understand- I was raised by Christian parents (who are still together, BTW) and they support my legal rights.

    Are they not "real" Christians?

    YOU... believe that crap (above).

Some Christians (too many of us/them) DO hate homosexuals AND also express that hatred.

Just because it looks/sounds pious, doesn't mitigate that 'expressed' hatred.

One would have to be living in a fantasy mindset, to think that Christians do not VERY OFTEN 'hate' homosexual people. I've been on the 'receiving' end of that enough times in my life, to know that it is absolutely true.

I know it's probably fun to go searching for one or 2 crazy people who stand against your beliefs in extreme ways and post the videos, but if you're trying to pass this off as to how "Christians" think.... you're being intentionally misleading, because even you know better than that.

"Christians"... who base their lives on the Bible, don't "hate" anyone or want anyone killed for their beliefs.

I know it's common for the gays to get all outraged and offended because Christians point out the God says homosexuality is a sin, but Christians know this and that's how it's viewed.
They don't hate their family members for lying or stealing, if/when it's occurred... and they don't hate gays for homosexual acts.
Sin is sin. No sin is greater, or less offensive to God, than another.

Most (by a long shot) Christians on Earth hate the sin... not the sinner.

Picking and choosing idiots to use as a representation of the group you dislike is stupid.
It would be like claiming Jeffrey Dahmer and Andrew Cunanan represent all gays.

Amazing Sam's Ego is spot on, and you finding 2 wackos as your evidence otherwise, is dumb.

Next time just type in "Westboro Baptist" and you'll find a buttload (no offense) of stupid things Christians don't agree with.... but are great ammo if you lack anything with actual substance.

Agreed, but it happens to gay people all the time and is commonplace on this forum. In fact, we have one particular poster who specializes in creating threads constructed in a way that is meant to coax people to infer that the behavior of one idiot who happens to be gay represents all gay people.
