I have been listening to Leonid And Friends. They do covers of well known hits by Chicago and others. In this video they are covering "September", the Earth, Wind, and Fire hit song. Watch and give it a listen. They are really, really good!

    Thanks for the thread. 8)

FWIW: Here's one I should have posted in a 'gear-heads music thread' I started at my first home-site.

    @Eadora

I just came across this cool video you'd posted, in the last edition of this thread, #25. It really grooves. And the sound quality is very good, for something recorded on the street. I'll have to check out more of Light In Babylon's stuff.

    @Eadora

This is the next thing of L.O.B.'s that I checked out, and it is even more passionate than the first. I'm especially impressed with the band's frontwoman-- her dancing, her drumming, and, of course, her singing.
(Note, there is a slow opening for 40 seconds, before the song starts kickin' it).

This is not my typical fare, but I've had in my thoughts, today, this soft pop song. I hadn't even known who did it, and found out that it is by an artist, who I don't much care for. This tune, though, does have an understated charm, almost as if the gentle orchestration is leaving room for embellishment, from the mind of the listener. That combines, for me, with an emotional punch, from some heartfelt vocals, with the aid of the lyrics. So, if you don't mind a little MSM, here's Gloria Estefán, and the Miami Sound Machine, with "Anything For You:"

This next video is a live cover by someone, just going by "Nina." It's kind of funny, that they have have a sax player in the group, which instrument is in the original song, but all he does is sits there and, I guess, imagines playing his part; instead, they stick to a very light accompaniment of acoustic guitar, electric bass, drum kit, and a quietly synthesized organ sound, behind Nina's delicate voice.

    Live Version:

I'm still in an easy listening mood, so here are a couple more, to go with the Estéfan song, by the group Breathe. Their videos are not very good, but the songs are nice, and the lead singer has a good voice. I don't know the reason for their undoing-- was this maybe their only sound?

But for now, just give in, to the mellow groove.

Still chill, but fun and upbeat, with more of a jiggle: "Lost In Emotion," by Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam

And, from the same era, here's a laid back tune from The Jets-- You've Got It All

Great song. It's often used in military tribute videos, or this re-do by Five Finger Death Punch.

Comment: You post some music videos from women with an awesome voice, and the lyrics…. are good (understatement)

I’m wondering if your username is a take-off of the artist Paloma, a play on letters and pronunciation…. BTW: Have I mentioned I like brunettes?

Since you'd posted a Sia song, after referring to Adele's songs, in another post, as annoying, "gum on my shoe songs"-- I thought it was an interesting coincidence, that I just came across an Adele song, that somewhat mimics the sound of a song by Sia.

Now check out the piano continuo, that lays such a similar mood, as a base for this song by Adele:

Adele's vocal, though, I don't think was attempting to emulate Sia; if anyone else, it reminded me a little of Nelly Furtado.

Going back to the cello, in Sia's song (as an aside), there is a song done by P!nk, that I don't know the name of, but which ends with strings or a cello, which I'd liked, back when it was on the radio, and which I had initially believed was Adele's singing-- does anyone know the one I'm talking about?

As long as we are developing a focus on strong female voices, here is a woman I just discovered, who sings covers, & who is worth a listening: Lena Hall.

She seems to do a wide range of tunes, including "House of the Rising Sun," "Zombie," & "Don't Let Me Down," but here, I'm including some Radiohead, Muse, Cranberries, and Chris Cornell (Soundgarden) covers. All her covers seem done with pared down (but sufficient) accompaniment-- often just acoustic guitar & piano-- to emphasize the vocals. And yes, @Aristophanes, she is a brunette. This first one, @Turtledude may appreciate (as well as, I expect, will other fans of good singing).

my partial list of the best female lead vocalist in rock or pop rock in no particular order

    1. Sandy Denny (Fairport convention-only guest vocalist on a LZ record)
    2. Annie Haslam of Renaissance
    3. Grace Slick-the high priestess of acid rock
    4. Maddy Prior of Steeleye Span
    5. Linda Rondstadt
    6. Patti Smith-the high priestess of punk
    7. Terri Nunn-Berlin
    8, Kate Pierson-B52s
    9. Karen O-Yeah yeah yeahs
    10. Sinead O'Connor and
    11. Chrissie Hynde

    the most OVERRATED IMHO are

    Debby Harry-thin voice
Stevie Nicks (Christine McVie was better)

I just stumbled upon a good cover singer, Lena Hall, and Bowie is one of the artists, with whom she is "obsessed." It probably won't be what you expect, but give a listen, and see what you think:

    Rebel, Rebel

    As the World Falls Down

I'm including a couple, also, from Hedwig and the Angry Inch:

    Midnight Radio

    Wicked Little Town

It's the lure of the contralto and ....I like peas lol.

Paloma has nothing to do with my name. Falena is my actual name. I thought of changing it before I joined here. I was a little leary from the incident in El Paso and all. But, I decided own it and move on. What I won't own is whirling. Ive said this before and I'll say it again. A bee landed in my tequila shot and stung me on my lip. I spun around quick and flicked it off my lip. Thankfully,, I didn't have an allergic reaction.

The sound of a piano is so naturally soothing and at the same time senses awaking for me.

That's a cool correlation between those two songs. I cant place the Pink song you are referring to. I probably won't stop trying to figure it out now so hopefully someone knows and posts it.

Adele has a great voice. The reason her songs are gum on my shoe songs are the lyrics. Anciently old flames years later pining in their glass of chardonnay about a lost love is super odd to me. Probably because I have the, when I'm done you're dead to me gene.

This song reminds me of some broad in prison for stalking who is in a 12 step program making amends with some poor nice guy victim.
