There is no way in hell in today's climate 2/3rds of the states would ratify an amendment, let alone both houses of congress. The ONLY way to fix the EC issue is via the NPVIC and that is an uphill battle, still.

Look at the last three years and you'll know.

The National Popular Vote Interstate Compact (NPVIC) can "award" their "electoral votes" any way they wish. The minute the Supreme Court gets their hands on it, however, it will result in a unanimous vote there that such an action is almost certainly going to be found to be UNCONSTITUTIONAL.

The whole Electoral College paradigm was carefully designed to keep dominating factional constructs from smothering the entire nation... and that's part of why the SCOTUS would be certain to disallow any blanket "award" that the NPVIC would create....

Again -- if you don't like the Electoral College, and can't somehow find a way to amend the Constitution to remove it? Then understand that is probably because few but those in one smothering, dominant political faction wants the EC to be removed in the first place! :)

    What makes a 'banana republic'?

Banana farming? You think it is corruption but I see our federal government equally corrupt to those of banana producers. The difference is democracy. We have one that works to a degree while the banana republics that have democracy have failed democracies.

The subject line was really a rhetorical question. The intent was to create enough curiosity to watch the video, so, indeed, the OP is really about the short video. Only 38 seconds, so give it a go.

Sorry I can't watch internet videos. I'm stuck with slow, metered internet service. One of the negatives of enjoying country living. Text for me.
