People are silly, superstitious critters. I'd sooner get out of a deadly storm's path than talk to imaginary friends, but that's just me.

Another test of the power of prayer. Bet we will hear endless fools thanking God for saving them from the storm while those who were killed remain silent.

the rich people in florida will be fine, the poor who can't afford to move will not do well.

it is a luxury for the rich not to believe in God.

When you love someone or are concerned about your own tentative circumstances, sometimes a prayer is but the hearts plea. Nothing superstitious or fanciful about it. It is no different than working towards a goal.

Had a tree fall on the roof of the house we were staying in during Ike. It was a neighbors house. Not a good feeling at all.

This hurricane is GOD's (some christians capitalize the G; but real christians capitalize all the letters) punishment for Trump supporters. If you look at the cloud formations they look like Trump's hair.

Are you claiming the world isn't warming? :omg:
You really don't believe we could change the climate or the environment? Do you know what a nuclear winter is?

Oh no Shephard Smith haha wow " your all dead ". " and your kids too" ... I've always liked him but methinks he had too many espressos there in that Twitter link below... That being said I am in Orlando and it's pretty quiet atm. We won't get the brunt of it though being a bit inland.

I'm in mid-state (near Burlington) at the moment. Rain is all I'm seeing, thus far. I believe Matthew is a liberal storm and is boycotting NC due to HB2.

Here in Boca we were expecting a direct hit, and guess what...nothing! Thank heaven!

I didn't even hear the wind and slept like a baby. Now compare that to the wind storms in Westchester county, when our two hundred year old oaks decided their time was up. Both times they fell on the electric wires and ripped off the boxes ...believe it or not.

Well it serves me right for not putting up the Amish hex sign. You don't fool around with things like that you know?

They can't afford to leave their homes and hang out in a safer location for a couple of days?

It is superstitious when people talk to imaginary entities and think that doing so might change the future. The "heart's plea" is another matter, I'd say, as here you're talking about hope and coping emotionally with something that is very frightening and beyond our control. People can accomplish this in different ways, and prayer is a silly, superstitious way to go about it. Taking action that will likely make real difference would be my response. If my home were threatened like that, I'd get myself and my most important assets out of harm's way, or maybe take other steps if I thought staying home could work. But I sure wouldn't beg a god or departed loved ones or ancestors to 'watch over me' or some such nonsense.

Because supporting the lesser of two evils, is still supporting evil. When election day draws closer, and I have a better idea who will prevail, I may change my mind. For now, Johnson gets my vote.

There was once upon the time a project called storm fury where they used dry ice to seed the eye walls of Hurricanes to try to reduce their wind fields.

The UofM computer center where I a student was supporting the program. I can still remember someone dropping about a thousand punch cards in the hall way that was used in the program.

In any case, I was told at the time there was some effects from the small amount of seeding they had done but that the lawyers had gotten nerve that anyone who would suffer ill effects from such storms would blame the program.

I often find myself wishing that the program had gone ahead and instead of using small amounts of seeding they would had drop hundreds of tons into the eye walls.

    See the following link

Well hells bells, I had no idea we were in a nuclear winter.

    Somebody forgot to tell me.

I never claim earth has not warmed over parts of it. That is quite ordinary in fact. I am not persuaded we dirty low down humans have something to do with it.

I can see the physics doing that. Seems it should work. The forces are more than likely far too great for it to stop a hurricane but anything done to slow winds down is a definite advantage. I got a report this am from a 93 year old woman whom lives at West Palm Beach and her report is she did not lose power and she is still pounding the keyboard sending me tons of e mails on politics mostly. She says the canal by her residence is not flooded despite some seriously heavy rains. She said the winds made her feel as if they might tear off her roof. But she made it fine.

note: Wikipedia says it was Silver Iodide, not dry ice. Was Wikipedia in error???

Dry ice? You mean Carbon Dioxide??!?!?!?! And people were just dumping it into the Environment? No wonder that evil right wing program was terminated.
