    What do you think was the reason for his failure in the last presidential election?

    Trump was an idiot who sabotaged himself a lot. But he was enabled by many people. Fools enabled an idiot into office.

    Trump wanted what was best for the country, but definitely did not do himself any favors with his abrasive personality.

    Trump wanted what was best for him, and "screw everyone else". Wait until he throws his own kids under the bus. Then you won't be able to pretend he "wanted what was best for the country."

    Himself. If he was honorable, he would have stepped down because he knew he couldn't handle the responsibility. But, he's not honorable.

    Despite all of his other faults (and there are too many to list), he could have easily won, had he only taken covid seriously. The downplaying of covid, calling the response to it a Dem hoax, peddling false cures, and, most importantly, the lack of compassion for the covid victims, all contributed to his downfall.

    Trump caused his own failure to be re-elected. People didn't like his personality. Since elections are popularity contests then it was predictable. Biden will face the same fate if he runs for re-election.

    Thank God enough U.S.citizens finally smartened up and got rid of the cancer bent on destroying our country and it's democracy. We are slow learners.

    Biden appears headed into a similar and well-deserved (for different reasons) ditch.

    Nice graph. How would voters have known how Biden would "handle" the response to the virus? It had nothing to do with Trump's failure at re-election. Voters didn't like Trump. What could be more obvious?

    Could be. We know Trump was Mr. Nasty, but Joe's seeming indifference to how many people feel is hurting him.

    We aren't doing much of a job choosing leaders. Every voter and both political parties should be embarrassed.

    They had hope, but hope only lasts so long.
    Liking doesn't necessarily translate into votes (Jimmy Carter, 1980) nor does disliking cook one's goose (Trump, 2016). That said, I agree that Trump's obnoxious manner was a big nail in his coffin.

    Yes. I was involved in politics and am younger than both Joe and Trump. I think there is a time when those of us who are older leave major decisions about the future to those who will live it.

    Trump did not and does not want the best for the country, anything or anyone except himself.

    The word "best' in your comment is subjective, however, here is why I stand behind my opinion...

    * He was warned by Fauci and Obama that he might be faced with a pandemic during his term. He chose to dismantle it and ignore it. Fauci is the highest paid Federal employee in the country, the only person that earns more than the President and has been there through many Administrations. This was not a call that Trump should have made unilaterally. This was clearly NOT in the best interests of our country.

    @dharbert ...

    * He lied to us by telling us that it under control, it was like the flu, it would disappear in warmer weather, we would be back in church by that Easter, it was a democrat hoax, etc..

    https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2020/11/trumps-lies-about-coronavirus/608647/

    -----------------------

    * In his conversation with Bob Woodward, he said that it was bad. He chose to implement a travel ban but backed down because Pelosi called him "xenophobic".

    Leaders have to make tough decisions. Everyone won't understand or agree with them sometimes but if the decision is moral, ethical, legal and aligned with the company's or agency's mission, it is that leaders duty to make those tough calls for the "best interests" of those he or she leads.

    This particular point bothers me because Trump's apologists are constantly defending him as a strong leader. He doesn't know how to lead. He just bullies until the other person is ready to jump off a cliff just to stop hearing his mouth.

    It also bothers me because internet forums are flooded with comments about Biden's "senility". The argument is that he is "not running the show" but it only appears that way because he's not prone to pointing fingers and being rude to everyone under the sun. Instead of cutting people off with "Fake News" it would have been helpful for Trump to tell us why he "discounted" those targeted media outlets. Simply saying it's fake is not addressing the issue and it's not "fake" just because a media outlet doesn't hide his warts. Having no manners or diplomacy isn't leadership. It's obnoxiousness.

    And, if he is not running the show, why isn't the same argument made about Trump when he directly said that Pelosi lead him to reverse the travel bans? When he said Pelosi wouldn't allow him to have the National Guard for back-up at the Capitol on January 6, 2021?

    It's not honest or fair to hold Biden to a standard for which Trump is constantly being excused.

    I absolutely can't stomach the thought of his vapid, high priced escort, former lesbian porn nude model wife, but, I believe that his apologists should follow her example on this one point. Instead of blaming and attacking those of us that don't believe he has any redeemable qualities, instead of making excuses, blaming others in the WH and rationalizing or outright ignoring his chaotic messes, instead of pretending that everyone else is grossly incompetent and he is the stable genius he claims to be....

    Why not just say "I know who and what he is and I choose to stand behind him."?

    @dharbert ...

    Again, instead of admitting that he was out of his depth, he went on the attack.

    I don't need to explain that undermining and attacking our very qualified experts is an extreme disservice to our country. His ego should never eclipse the American people's trust in our paid experts.
