SADLY, you are right. And if he won re-election, his tentacles would have been much deeper in the end of America's Republic.

I do remember being a bit put off by that. Not so much the hoax stuff, but by everytime they asked him about it he'd go into this spiel that basically added up to "why are you bothering me China did it.".

Well that might be true, but it's here regardless of where it came from we needed a plan.

I believe they still use the old convention system. I would prefer the political parties determined their candidate without voters and then have the voters handle the final runoff. It works pretty well for the parliamentary system.

    @dharbert ...

As people sheltered-in-place, lost their jobs and businesses and were separated from their dying loved ones in hospitals around the country, Trump let us know stimulus money had been approved. Instead of understanding that most of the intended recipients don't have gold toilet seats, he chose to delay the checks so a letter announcing the check and his signature could be printed on the checks.

Everyone in the world knew that he was the President when that money was issued. Why did he underestimate anyone's ability to connect those dots? Was that worth delaying that money to the people and families that really needed it? I donated some of mine and helped some elderly neighbors and there were many, many others around the country struggling as they were. I couldn't help them all.

That wasn't in the people's best interests.

Age is not a good criterion. Leadership skills, management experience and integrity matter more. In other words we should stop electing politicians to the office of president.

I wish I could say that Lincoln Project and Republican Voters Against Trump were responsible (I supported both), but in the end it's mostly Trump himself and patriotic Americans who truly understand the meaning of patriotism. :D

Liking doesn't necessarily translate into votes (Jimmy Carter, 1980) nor does disliking cook one's goose (Trump, 2016). That said, I agree that Trump's obnoxious manner was a big nail in his coffin.[/QUOTE]

Carter was one of the worst presidents in history (price controls, high interest rates, giving away the Panama Canal etc). That certainly nullified his gentlemanly approach to things. Poor performance is not popular. Yes Trump's obnoxious manner was the main nail in his coffin.

I think a min and max age is appropriate, would not want a 10 year old or a 80 year old running the country

and no more elderly reality tv stars

Yep. He could have even did a 180 after leaving Walter Reed but he went right back to being stuck on stupid.

I commented to some friends that he didn't look well at the debate with Biden. They floated the report about Hope Hicks testing positive but I believe that was to lead into announcing his positive test.

It's very upsetting that he and his entourage didn't wear masks, refused masks offered and would not socially distance in the audience. If any or all of them knew, the story would break about Hicks and then the Trumps (and I think their son got a positive test then too. I don't involve public figure's kids so I don't follow that kind of thing but I seem to recall that was mentioned in something about his parents' diagnoses).

And, statistically, people in Pro-Trump areas are paying the price. They are still blaming it on black and brown people but like most of their demonization of non-whites, that's not true.

This is Trump's doing. He lied to these people.

It's been a minute since I passed the Constitution test but IIRC, a person isn't eligible to run until the age of 35.

I don't have an issue with an upper age if the person is qualified and capable of handling the job. I would feel differently if we were talking about someone that holds a position in which they make unilateral decisions but that's not the case with the US President.

As long as we don't elect another completely-devoid-of-all-information-in-the-world-idiot-who-believes-himself-to-be-a-stable-genius, we should be okay because a POTUS' inner circle will be made up of people and experts of all ages.

You must admire him to emulate him as you do. For me, statements like "Take the guns first, due process later" is enough to keep me from voting for him.

This poll is flawed. I don’t see voter fraud as an option

wage andprice controls, the opec gas lines, and inflation all began before carter's election, and those things take time to fix.

Who caused his demise? Really? It was the folks who voted for him. It was like a supercharged Peter principle x 2 being acted out in front of the eyes of the world. There has never been a more unqualified candidate for the presidency than Don.

Donald Judas tRump started running for reelection the day after he was elected. But never really understood the power he held, to be reelected, as president. Instead of rallying the whole nation behind him, which he could have done, he decided the way forward, for him, was to dance with the one that brought him and be as decisive as he'd been during the 2016 campaign. In the process alienated more than half of all AmeriCANs and, to the point, more than enough voters to get himself reelected. A lot of people are blaming anything and everything, COVID, voter fraud, mail in voting BUT the real reason he lost in 2020 .... and that is Benedict Donald himself.

The main reason he wasn't reelected is because rather than DO his job, he focused on KEEPING his job. Add in that he gamed the system for every penny he could squeeze out of it, played the nepotism card for all it was worth, pulled every dirty trick in the book, as evidenced by two impeachments and told lies when the truth would have served him better. And topped it all off with trying to steal the election, he himself was the only one that committed voter fraud and he did it on a scale that no one in their wildest dreams could have imagined possible.

In the end tRump, trumped tRump.

Yes, when it's used. Canadian parties have all their members vote for the leader and they've ended up with with some losers.

Specifically, independent voters who tired of Trump’s childish antics of name calling and throwing of temper tantrums like a 4-year-old spoiled brat. Add to that Trump’s 3rd grade schoolyard bullying tactics, an uncouth and very rude personality that was deemed way below the dignity of the occupant of the White House. Independents plain didn’t like Trump the man, the individual, the person. History has shown folks usually won’t vote for a person they dislike.

Perhaps who Trump lost to says as much. He lost to an old, bland, uninspiring candidate who basically stayed hidden during the campaign. Biden didn’t have to campaign, he let Trump hog the spotlight, the limelight, be the headliner every day so Trump could remind folks why they disliked him so much. Smart political strategy on Biden’s part.

I think how independents voted tells the whole story. 41% voted for Trump, 48% of independents voted for Republican congressional candidates enabling the GOP to gain 13 house seats while Trump was losing by 7 plus million votes. 51% of independents voted for Republican senate candidates while 52% voted for Republican governor candidates in Nov of 2022. There were quite a lot of ticket splitters, voting Biden, against Trump to get rid of him. Then voting Republican down ballot after voting for the Democrat for president.

2020 was a battle of personalities than about issues or policy when it came to independents. You had one obnoxious, distasteful, egotistical candidate going up against a non-charismatic bag of flour with no personality. The bottom line was Trump beat Trump, not Biden.

One of my graduate school professors told us "A calm sea doesn't make a capable Captain." I later learned it was a derivative of this quote “A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor.” – quote by Franklin D. Roosevelt

The issue is simple. Trump is a con man. He's all flash and big words but there is nothing behind them. Most people don't care what the President does and some don't even know what the President does (LOL), but we sure as hell know it when he's NOT doing it! ;-)

Trump wanted to run the Oval Office the way he runs his businesses and he got very angry that he couldn't do that. Our Founding Fathers established this country on the ideals that We, The People, have a voice. The only voice Trump will listen to is his own and all good leaders know they need to surround themselves with voices of reason, expertise, public relations, and most of all, diplomacy.

Sure, some people laugh because he makes fun of fat women and handicapped people, talks sh!t about our military and he pumped them full of sunshine that all he cared about was them (and he hated everybody they hated). He told them this was their country and all the people that don't look, love or worship the way they do are "inconsequential". All the people his age and older remember segregation and their offspring remember being taught to hate people just because of how they look. This is so important to them that they don't even care that he's an atheist (just stand in front of a church with a bible), anti-vaxxer (just enough to try to get it named after himself), con man (they see that as a strength for reasons I don't quite understand) and liar (some people like pretty lies more than an ugly truth). They want a showman. He's a showman. That's all that matters.

Those of us that would prefer to buy tickets to see a stand-up comedian when we want to be entertained weren't drawn to his one note acts. I don't watch television so my first memory of him was him talking in circles about Obama's birth certificate. And, I get it. People hate people and here was a guy that didn't like a bi-racial guy being President and that was his draw. A good con man knows his marks. He sizes them up within minutes and can play them like a smooth saxophone. That's what they do and he didn't have to do much of anything except b!tch and moan about Democrats. He didn't have to back it up because the people he was saying that for already hate Democrats. He just had to get them to believe he knew how to "fix that" little problem of theirs. So, he was coasting on a wave of adoration in a co-dependent toxic thing with people that wanted him to keep being "only for them" and him needing their constant attention (and money).

A person that had a tv show and did interviews his whole life would be a natural in front of a microphone. The only problem was there was no substance behind that showman. He not only could not handle the rough sea, he essentially grabbed a life jacket and jumped overboard. He basically resigned his position with no notice and left us scrambling to hold it together without confident leadership. Fauci added to that storm because he lies every time he speaks and Dr. Birx was crucified for no reason other than squirming in a chair because our President asked her about disinfectants and UV lights inside the body into an open mic. Instead of being honest, he added one lie on top of another and convinced his supporters that it was a hoax. He didn't model any mitigation efforts. He spent the rest of his term campaigning full-time in an effort to get re-elected to a position that he KNEW he could not do competently.

An honorable man would have stepped aside even if he was unable to publicly admit that he knew he let his people down.

An honorable man would not have put our soldiers and allies in harm's way by negotiating with terrorists and time it on his successor's watch*.

An honorable man would not have put us in harm's way to consistently praise the President of a country that wouldn't even allow investigators into their country to inspect the Wuhan Lab.

An honorable man would not have punished his own loyal, qualified and honest staff members for not repeating that lie.

An honorable man would not have placed a target on his own Vice-President's back for having the integrity to uphold his oath to our country.

An honorable man would not have used his own supporters to exact revenge against his own VP for having that integrity for us.

An honorable man would not have sat silently ignoring his angry mob brutally attacking hundreds of police officers.

An honorable man would not have made his successor's transition difficult if he was concerned about our best interests.

An honorable man would admit to himself that he can't effectively lead our nation and use all of his showmanship to stand behind another candidate that can do the job.

But, Trump is not honorable and the price we all are paying for his inability to lead will take years, if not decades, to clean up. It's tragic that it had to come to this. It didn't have to be this way.

Did you watch the DNC? There was a young lady on that spoke about her dad. They had some photos of him up. She talked about how much her dad loved Trump and believed in him and trusted him completely. Then, her dad contracted COVID and died. Naturally, the family was devastated and his death forced them to recognize that Trump wasn't looking out for us.

It has been reported that people in pro-Trump counties are dying of the virus at 3X the rate in other demographics. It's so sad. All these people trusted him. They believed his lies and now they are dying and their loved ones are grieving their losses for no reason other than Trump's ego. I was in tears having to help my kids cope with the loss of their fish (yeah, my babies do that to me ;-). I can't even conceptualize how a person that claims to care about us could just shrug it all off. Yeah, he hates all of us that don't worship him, but these are HIS supporters.

    • He took unauthorized money from his donors' bank account and wouldn't refund it until a judge forced him to.
    • He used his own supporters for revenge against Pence and has ignored their arrests and convictions.
    • He didn't move a muscle to help all those Capitol police his angry mob brutally attacked. Some of them had to be his supporters.

There's a difference in being strong and being apathetic. He's not strong.

Tentacles is correct. His supporters still don't understand that he's not even playing for our team.
