Woman gave birth only a week after finding out she was pregnant

Some of you claim that women would not get a late term abortion unless they had a very valid reason.
That no woman would wait that long if she didn't want the pregnancy.

    Well that's not always true.

This 21 year old got a positive pregnancy test. A week later, she gave birth

This happened in February 2021 to Teagan Brill, a senior at Hope College in Holland, Michigan.

The female student knew she couldn't participate in class. Her stomach hurt badly, so she asked her professor if she could attend with her Zoom camera off.

Early the next morning, she went to use the bathroom, and her stomach cramps were so intense she couldn’t stand up. Immobilized and scared, she called her roommates sleeping upstairs. When they didn't answer, she called the emergency number 911.
What Teagan didn't realize at the time was that her pain was not a result of stomach cramps. She was having contractions.

Later that morning in the bathroom, while on the phone with the 911 operator, Teagan, 21, gave birth to a baby boy.

Just a week earlier, Teagan said she had texted her then-boyfriend, Mitchell Brill.
She took a pregnancy test - positive.

Teagan experienced a "cryptic pregnancy", a rare situation in which someone does not know they are pregnant for most or all of gestation.

Teagan didn't experience any telltale signs of pregnancy and had used forms of contraception. Her menstrual cycle had always been very light, so she witnessed no observable changes in what she thought was her period. She didn’t show in her stomach at all, even at seven and eight months.
Factors behind a cryptic pregnancy can be psychological, in the case of pregnancy denial, and/or physiological. In Teagan's case, nurses at the hospital told her that her six-foot height likely meant that her son grew up and behind her ribs, preventing her from developing a rounded belly.

College Student Gave Birth Week After A Positive Pregnancy Test (today.com)

Even though it's rare for a woman to find out until the very last minute, it is not quite as rare for women to only find out later into their pregnancies. Say at 14, 15, or even 16 weeks.

These are not "good" abortions. The baby had already done quite a lot of development in there, by that time.

Plus, throw in another 2 weeks or so for a woman who is in "denial", or is still making up her mind, and then scheduling an appointment. What could have started off at 14 weeks is now 16 or 17 weeks. That should be too late to get an abortion, but some of these mothers do not care.

This is why laws are needed.

Contrary to the claim that "no rational woman would abort that late".

Though it's hard for me to believe mother doesn't feel baby moving....I will say that a six foot woman can carry her baby differently. I had a 6' 2" friend who didn't look anywhere near 9 months when she was due.

LOL, when you have no answers in other threads you post one of these , "Hey, look over there!" threads.

You:""What could have started off at 14 weeks is now 16 or 17 weeks. That should be too late to get an abortion, but some of these mothers do not care.""

It's legal to have an abortion up to 23 weeks...and YOU do NOT know if "some of these mothers do not care".

The rest of your post isn't a coherent argument for anything...

So the woman finds out she is pregnant at 16 weeks - she also finds out that she's hypertensive and has developed gestational diabetes ... which puts
both her life and the fetus' life at risk - and YOU want to FORCE her to carry to term. All I can say is F*** that noise, YOU carry it.

You think that justifies abortion at 16 weeks?
For your information, being "hypertensive and having gestational diabetes" doesn't create too much risk of death to the woman who continues with a pregnancy.
How big does the risk have to be to the woman in your view to justify abortion? Even the tiniest remotest possibility of risk? 0.01 percent risk of death, she should abort? (Oh I forgot, you think she has every right to abort even if there is no risk whatsoever)

If abortion were legal at 30 weeks then you'd be saying that 23 weeks was "not so bad".

Here's an ultrasound that was done at 16 weeks.
skip ahead in the video, they do a 4D ultrasound where the picture is clearer

This little guy is waving at us on the screen.

Have you ANY a evidence that that is a common occurrence - or even happens at all?

Where abortion IS legal throughout the pregnancy such as in Canada the profiles of who has abortions when differ little from those areas with legal constraints

    SHE DOES !!!! :nana:

Plus EVERY pregnancy carries a risk...and you can deny that but it won't change it from being true...

Don't tell me what I'd say, like most things, you don't know.

    What I said was : "

What has that got to do with the topic or anything else????

If you truly believe an embryo is waving at you, can see you and wave...well, I am sorry, just sorry

From YOUR post : ""Teagan experienced a "cryptic pregnancy", a rare situation in which someone does not know they are pregnant for most or all of gestation.""

Now, can you state what that has to do with abortion or women's right to their own bodies or anything else?

    No, I didn't think so.

Certainly nothing to do with your: ""Some of you claim that women would not get a late term abortion unless they had a very valid reason.
That no woman would wait that long if she didn't want the pregnancy.""

I actually thought you were making an argument for allowing later-term abortions for a moment there.

You seem to be accepting (only) early term abortions but are then raising the valid issue that some women won't be aware of their pregnancy early on (or as in the extreme example, even very late). That would suggest to me that hard and fast laws banning elective abortions after some arbitrary gestation period isn't practical in the real world. I'd suggest at least some consideration should be given to women in this situation, with appropriate input and advice from medical professionals. You seem to be suggesting that if a woman doesn't find out she is pregnant early enough (though no fault of her own), it should just be tough luck.

Of course, if your position is a ban on elective abortions at any point, all of this would become entirely irrelevant anyway.

Just to point out that I've never said that (having a more realistic view of the issue than those on either extreme) so there is no point raising it in response to my post.

Even the smallest risk makes the decision the woman's. You really don't understand, "It's her decision" at all, do you? I'm never "pro" abortion - I don't know
    anyone who is.

Have you any evidence that it is not?
If some private non-profit organization wanted to collect evidence about how frequently this was happening, how would they do it?

They can't. And you know this all too well.
Under the current system women can abort with no questions asked about their reasoning.
Abortion clinics are not required to report abortions, say done at 16 weeks, where nothing was wrong with mother or baby.

Why should we automatically assume these "medical procedures" were done for good reasons?

There is no system in place to require collection of information about the circumstances of the situation in which these "procedures" are performed.

Right now, there's a huge disconnect between a doctor diagnosing a medical condition, and a woman having her pregnancy terminated. It's not like government workers can pull up a piece of paper on a specific abortion and say "Yes, this is why this woman decided to abort; it's because of this medical condition right here."

If it's legal then the patient NEEDS no "reason".... a legal abortion does NOT require a "good" reason, just a woman wanting an abortion.

BTW YOU certainly do NOT get to determine iif a reason is good or not, it's NONE of YOUR business.

WHERE TF do you get the idea that a woman getting an abortion needs an approved "reason" ???

Silly me. Where could I possibly have gotten the idea that a woman should have good reason if she decides to abort later in her pregnancy?

    Agree.

Why didn't you read my whole post, it explained it....quite clearly.

What can't you get about the FACT that the ONLY reason she needs is that she wants an abortion.

She sure doesn't need YOUR approval ....:roflol::nana:

But, hey, I'll give you a little credit for at least answering a post instead of your usual dodge...

Are you over 80 years old?

You realize that gestational hypertension and diabetes occur in MARRIED women as well. Abortions are not just confined to single women.
