I wouldn't know. I'm in 9th grade (well, we call it Middle 5th or Year 10 over here).

I would go and sit in on classes, but compulsory schooling drains all my energy and takes up all my time. It's an intellectual prison from which I can't escape. >>>MOD EDIT Profanity Filter Malfunction<<<

I would give up work if I won that sort of money. After all, I already gave up work (and, in the process, doubled the amount of work I have to do around the house!) when I realised that we no longer needed a second income to maintain our lifestyle.

I guess you enjoy being broke.

Move to Mexico, buy huge lots of land, create Private American communities with manufacturing plants and the works. Export it north for best profits. This allows the evasion of necessary tax laws and other junk, leaving room for profit and well paying jobs.

Several things would happen that would take some work.

Getting legal advice about the best way to handle fund transfers would have to happen first. Insist on it being private with no photos and no announcements and some sort of clandestine affirmation of my winning ticket.

After that, closing all current debts and accounts would be a priority.

What to do after all of that would be quite a ways down road.

You say traitor, I say an American proud to help his fellow citizens in more ways than the federal gov't will allow on our home turf.

I'm retired and don't work now except for fun projects and that wouldn't change at all. Now I might hire experts from time to time to help me with my projects but I wouldn't be focused on making anymore money. There's really a point where more money has no meaning.

I love where I live and wouldn't even want to move. I would purchase the three properties across the street and level the houses on them so I could put in a park because they block my view of the distant mountains and I would purchase the property behind the house so I could build a large shop but that's about all. Other than that I'd see what the money could be used for to benefit others because I really don't need it anyway.

I wouldn't try to earn more money than it would earn in very conservative investments, but I also wouldn't work at a business. I'd instead spend my time finding ways to help people in need, as well as building dog houses, sheds, decks and bird houses (or other projects) that I could give away to people who need them. Or I'd sell them and donate all the proceeds (and I'd pay for all materials and tools myself) to local needs as I deem them fit to deserve it. Too many charities spend far too much of what they receive in donations just on operating expenses so I'd be selective with where the money went. I can't possibly spend, nor need, all that PowerBall money so I'd just find ways to help others in order to give my own life meaning beyond just living off that cash. I like working with my hands too much to become a lazy guy that just pays others to do everything that needs to be done. I'd probably also pay a couple people to help with building things, arranging donations to different people or programs, and to hunt down new ways to do for others.

Saw two of the Shark Tank folks on GMA this morning talking about it. They suggested first paying all taxes, then put it in conservative investments (U.S. government bonds) and live off the interest. Roughly speaking, if all of the after tax winnings were put into U.S. government bonds, you would get $600,000 a month for life without touching the principal. They suggested no spending until you get that set up.

I'd keep working as some type of consultant for the various organizations I'd set up to help folks.

I wouldn't leave the country but I'd leave the disgusting state that I live in.

    But I'd do it quietly.

Here in California, they have you do a press conference if you're a big winner.

As well as your name and winnings being public knowledge.

I'd just LOVE to make a few "sound bite" statements about how f'ed up this state is and why I'd leave it in a hot tic.

That would not only get the "powers that be" in the state on my back but also the decidedly liberal press fueling them on like White on rice.

Slip away quietly, get established for a year or two, and then when someone does one of those expose's on big lottery winners, let them have it.

I probably won't care by then.

    I'd work at spending it...

Actually, the answer is yes. I do work. I wouldn't have to. I do anyway. People who just lie down become lazy, petty, ignorant and generally don't live very long either. How would doing nothing be anything but a lazyass bum with money in his pocket?

But, then, I don't buy lottery tickets. The only people who should buy lottery tickets are those people for which that is their only hope of other than minimal survival economics. That's not me.
