Direct taxes that are not apportioned to to the state collected were forbidden by the constitution before Amendment 16. Now they can piss away your federal income revenue wherever.

The correct way to pay for interstate infrastructure such as roads and bridges and what not would be through consumption taxes. Why do the control freaks always want to spend other people's money on stuff for themselves?

Thought provoking. My first reaction ia that roads would be paid for by the major users... the interstate trucker. So they would be burdened tremendously and their wages would have to increase substantially. Consumers would pay for this with increased prices for the goods they transport to market. Truckers would battle... consumers would battle... wholesalers and retailers would battle... perhaps a single source from "THE GENERAL FUND" might be better...

 

Never make taxes "general." Make them specific. That way people have a better idea why they are being taxed. Then you have to get people to care. The federal government should not be doing very much at all...other than homeland defense and negotiating trade agreements. Other than The Constitution, pretty much all law should be as local as possible.

In short, public roads and utilities should be paid for with consumption taxes, such as taxes that are only collected for roads from the people that use those roads. Like in FL. FL has no state income tax. The taxation of tourists from taxes hotel rooms takes up a good part of the slack. The Sun Pass drive through tolls make taxation of people who use the toll roads convenient, and if you don't use the road then you pay no tax.

 

Like as if they were not part of a union they joined? Okay, then let them quit.

 

Drug quality... food quality... air traffic control... aircraft safety, ... hard to do at the local level... so much more... car quality... FCC... GPS...

 

The greatest drive people seem to have is the desire to get something for nothing.

 

Yeah I already pointed that out to him. The amount he's claiming California pays to red states is almost exactly the same as the amount of their deficit. So it's not like they would be any better off if they had a 1-1 rate of federal dollars.

 

All or nothing? Sounds pretty authoritarian.

Nope. I'm for live and let live. If they want to leave the union, that's fine with me.

 

With the above [not saying there isn't any value here], you get all the rest. Isn't worth it. People need to figure it out for themselves.

Blue states get to deduct their massive state income taxes before they pay federal taxes... that burdens red states to take up the slack

You can still have the benefits of a union but with more local control [like it was originally designed].

 

That would be nice, sure. But the Hamiltonians in the US gov't are probably not going to let that happen.

Right. I don't need the federal government telling me what to drive... what to eat... what appliances I should use... what I can post on social media or what gun I can own.
