Because some liberals are afraid a sincerely discussion and want to silence their opponents.

You could say that if there was at least one liberal moderator, which there isn't.

    I don't think you're a liberal or a conservative.

You can't know me well enough to know that.

I'm a liberal (for the Americans) and for the Australians, I'm a Greenie.

You can see the notice on the main page about needing donations, not only toward the server this month, but also toward the move to VB 4. I am not sure when it wil happen but the sooner the Admin raises the money, the quicker the change will take place.

Whether the rep list returns will depend on what works. We want the site to run fast, so if something like the rep list, or even member list, slows it down, they will likely be removed.

The problem is that PF doesn't really take what its members say too seriously. There is a "we know best" attitude. Generally on these feedback forums members say what they want and Mods tell them why they cannot have it and then the thread gets shut down.

When I and a number of others asked for PF to link to the mobile application "tapatalk" - which enables PF to be viewed and used very easily on an i-phone for example - we were fobbed off quite rudely. I don't mind donating but you know "no taxation without representation!"

I know there was an option to make the forum viewable on mobile phones...it doesn't appear to be there now, though. I don't know what happened to it.

We do take what people say seriously, but when push comes to shove, the Admin knows best. This is her site and she can do what she pleases with it. You guys are welcome to request certain things, but you can't always get what you want. And if you want something that might cost money, you should cough up and help out - because like conservatives say - you shouldn't get anything for free.

If the rep list comes back it might look different, I don't know. It might not come back becaise other things might be considered more important. We'll have to wait and see.

As long as "the Admin knows best", I will keep hold of my money. When Admin is prepared to take on board my views, she can take on board my cash.

Is that OK Mak? It's only the same plea that the Amerian colonists made to King George III.

The app is tapatalk. It is an App where you can see hundreds of forums on your phone. It is excellent. If you want to see how it works then the DebatePolitics forum uses it so you could sign up there and have a look at how it works on an i-phone. If PF knows of another such App and how to take advantage of this for PF, please let me know. If it costs money, I'll contribute. If it doesn't and PF does it anyway, I'll contribute as well.

Just because the Admin doesn't do what you want, doesn't mean she hasn't taken notice. What would the forum be like if everyone got exactly what they wanted?

I have never heard of tapatalk. Maybe its something the upgrade will allow us to do. In any case, I will ask and see what the reason is.

Mak. Relax. My tongue is in my cheek. At least a bit. It was explained in a thread on this board but let me try again. Thanks for looking into it BTW.

You download the App to your i-phone. It may work on other phones, I don't know. The App is free.

On the App you can access hundreds of forums which have 'signed up' or provided links to the App. You need your password etc. but you can access the forum. In fact you can go on and just see the forums that you are a member of.

You can then read and write on the forum in a very "mobile-friendly" way. Right now using a mobile to post on PF is possible, but a nightmare.

Now this request was rejected out of hand by PF. Now perhaps it would cost PF too much money and this was the reason. This could be explained. But if someone asked me I would give $50 and there were others asking for this. Given the fact that tehre are hundreds of forums on this App I don't think it would be too hard. But if there is a technical explanation then why can't we be told.

This is what is called "customer feedback". When customers give me or my Company feedback I don't tend to argue with them. It would create a feeling with the customer that my Company is high handed, arrogant and not really interested in my opinion. PF argues with us when we give feedback. Every time. This makes my willingness to be a "donor" much lower. And I am someone who has supported forums financially in the past, maybe even this one, I don't remember.

Wait - would this forum have to supply the app or is this just an app you can find on the phone???

You don't supply the App. We get it from i-tunes (I've got it; it was free). All PF would have to do would be to provide the data link and ensure that the App could read the data from PF. I'm sure that there are security issues but i imagine, given the number of forums who are on the App, that there are relatively simple solutions. I don't know. I don't really know why we weren't listened to. PF just couldn't be bothered. In contrast to you who is showing some concern.

Mak made a note to the administrator about this option, so we have to wait for a reply.
I remember reading about VB 4 availing us to more applications, and hope that is the case.
    It probably depends on compatibility.
If you don't see any feedback, remind us to follow up on it again.
    Thanks

haven't they been collecting donations for a year now??? I thought the money was there and the owner was just trying to get everything archived for the switch. How much does this cost?

Maybe if there was more transparency about what was needed, and the proposal, advantages, costs, timescale etc. was communicated, I think there would be many more like me who would be prepared to pay. But when even the Mods describe the owner as a remote figure that sounds a bit like the Wizard of Oz, then it's not surprising that some of us are a bit tight with our money.

Yes, ignore the man behind the curtain....nothing to see here...move along now.
Seriously though, I honestly thought the money was already there and they were just archiving and getting things ready for the upgrade and now we learn that unless they get more money the upgrade will not happen???

The donations are for the server costs. We have a very good server, and the better the server, the more it costs per month to run. There comes a point where you can't afford to pay for it yourself.

Extra donations are needed for the major upgrade, I do not know how much it will cost, or when it will take place.

If people think that the Rep List will be back after any significant version upgrade, they will be disappointed.

I believe that the Rep List is not compatible with any version higher than 4.0.
Not as feature and not as an add-on.

If that is true, I doubt it would be much a concern. The priority here is to get the board running smoothly so no one has to suffer any of those annoying database errors.

Might be YOUR priority but that doesn't mean it's what members are waiting for.

And Rapunzel is right... we did this 'donate for the upgrade' over a year ago and raised a substantial amt of money. It's gonna take more than a vague promise to encourage people to give again. How about a timeline or something a little more definite than 'someday?'
