Why was my thread on this locked?

There is no reason if the pop threads are there and refreshed every 5 minutes, why the rep list can't be there too, unless this is just the liberal agenda once again trying to put down and belittle and silence the voice of the right.

So someone tell me why? I want a concise, intelligent explanation for this.

 

The other thread was locked for no good reason. Bring the hot threads, top posters and rep list back. People want them.
They motivate posting and great posts.

 

I've got sixteen reps in the past week (true some of them from my buddy Hillbilly for Keep One Word, Drop one Word. He must issue a lot of reps cos he gives me practically one a day - thanks buddy!!! I keep trying to rep you back but I am obviously too mean to others because it keeps telling me to spread the love around)!

So I went looking to see if I was on the Rep Board. Sixteen used to be enough. Maybe I've done it!

But no. As soon as I get enough reps to get on the board they go and abolish it!

Grrrr. Bloody conservative plot.... Grrrr.

Is the Rep System now gone for ever or will they bring it back when my reps are down to the usual three a week?

I, of course was only joking. Being reminded of who used to top that board also reminds me how fortunate I am not to be in their company on any Board!

Heroclitus , I have to rep 12 before I can give the same person a rep again , just like you & everyone else has to do , and I wish it was like it used to be before it was changed a year or so ago , maybe 2 years .

anyway , the rep board & top poster board are two different boards .

I never did make the top poster board , because I don't have the time to post 500 times a week .

now , the rep board I have been on , and it's nice to see your name on a global board , but it's a lot of work too , and honestly , it's not worth it , it just takes too much time .

The reason I still rep is to encourage others to come to the keep-a-word:drop-a-word thread . It's my way of saying 'thanks' for supporting the thread , and that's where most of my reps are given . The more people that use the thread , the more fun it is for everyone , and you'll meet people there that you might not see anywhere else , so it's a place to say a quick hello with a rep message .

I always enjoy getting a new rep point , it's sort of like getting a little present . I figure other people enjoy too , , and , I rep for good posts as well .

I hope the boards are brought back , time will tell .

 

I used to get at least 5 to 10 reps a day while a member and an advisor. Now I am lucky to get one a day and it's usually by Hillbilly or someone from the staff.

Where did the love go for me?

Nah, if we keep asking for it, we will get it back. Not sure where we stand on it.

I'll stop getting reps. Currently I have about 18 as even Rapunzel repoped me.

HB is right. Reps are like little presents that give you a little lift. Better NOT to make them part of the culture wars around here.

 

I usually rep the people I run into during the day. I'll read a thread and rep the posts I agree with it. Pretty simple really. Like this one.

 

It already is part of the culture here.

 

I too wish the rep list would come back.

It indicates to me whose arguments seek approval over arguments that are correct, supported by fact, or are more concerned with accuracy over popularity.

To me it is a list that is the inverse of what it was intended for, and that alone makes it important.

 

Some people just like to gripe.

The rep list is a good thing. I rep lots of people, cons, libs, people I don't even know.

A good post deserves a rep.

Hero , you are right and wrong at the same time . . . I'll always rep a good honest post , even if I don't agree with it , but I will occasionally rep a post I don't agree with to ease the pain of my taking a chunk out of someone's buttocks . . . and I'll always rep a thread and rep the keepaword-dropaword thread , it's a really cool thread , two words and no arguments . . it's prolly the coolest thread on PF , next to Smartys Place .and I'll rep you every chance I get , but its a bakers dozen before I can rep ya again , same as everyone else .

well TFM , we've crossed swords a few times , haven't we ? I remember you sent me a rep one time that said ' I can't believe I'm agreeing with you Hillbilly ' I almost fell out of my chair . but I've repped you a few times as well , and you prolly felt the same way .


I think that PF is at a crucial moment , and we all need to add our voices towards the betterment and guidance to PF as to what PF will be in the future . . and that includes the rep system .

To me , that's a great advantage that PF has over any other web-site , the rep system allows us to back-channel a rep point / message and reach the common ground that we all are searching for in a way that allows us to be ourselves

However , and I'm blushing here from embarrasement , I sent a nasty rep message to a troll recently , the first time I'd ever done that in a rep message , and I was spanked really hard for it by a Mod that mentioned if it happened again , well , no need to make a long comment about it , but the word Banned was mentioned . . just thought I'd put that in FYI . notice it was a big "B" , so don't do it , or you'll be sorry .

Hillbilly you're a rarity. More's the pity. You don't seem to understand the concept of malice. I think you should be a Mod. Youre like my mum (she's pretty conservative sometimes).

This is really, really important.

I need to see whom it is that is repped. Without it, my life is just a hollow shell.

Folks, I am a donor, and I request that we bring this back. It is very important in order to determine who needs to be repped for that day, and ensuring, in the most socialist way possible, reps are spread around.

 

I agree but one thing I do know is the owner is going to give donors perks. I am not sure if she shared it with you. She's tossing it around.

I know we are tossing around the rep system too. The owner wants us all to stay and to be as happy as possible. She has asked us humbly for our help to upgrade and keep this site alive. Those who have left for whatever reasons over the past months must have given up on us. I say "horray" for those who tough it out. Just my 2 cents.

Rep systems on boards generally do not work too well and can be exploited by a group to get at the top of any reps table. Better off without them in my opinion. Nothing good is going to come out of some group with not much to say being at the top of a reps board while good posters who deal in factual information are not there because they are not in the gang. My two cents.

 

We are aware of this potential, and the fact that we can't possibly 'police' the giving of reps to ensure they are only given for genuine 'quality' posts and not for any other reason (and there's no point in us having rules about that which can't possibly be enforced, so we don't) - that's why we state clearly that it shouldn't be taken as a reliable indication of which posters are 'the best':

On the other hand, many people like it, and enjoy giving and recieving reps and seeing if they or their friends (or 'opponents', even) are on the table, and that's fine. The forum exists to provide what its members want as far as is possible, and the forum owner is well aware that there are many people who want the rep table back. Unfortunately it has been removed for the time being as part of the changes in the build up to the upgrade, but there's no 'great plot' against the rep table at all, and we all hope that it will return after the upgrade.

I've never been on it, by the way, but that's just because everybody hates me!

Let's bring it back and be done with it.

This is important. The system provides affirmation from like minded individuals on a merit-less basis, and gives folks who may not win the arguments bragging rights about having folks agree with them, bragging rights that they may not have otherwise.

I say bring it back and let's see how those reps are passed around.
