TV just a bit of info regarding the BER and this builder up here. He was told he could lodge a complaint but was advised to seek legal advice in regards to his rights, as the complaint would be deemed as a possible legal action and would be handled through legal channels. Whether or not his solicitor gave sound advice or not is not applicable to my point. He was told this may take a long time and the cost to him may be substantial. He opted to let it go as he never had the money or the time to be battling a legal action. He ask why his tender was knocked back and they told him they were not oblidged to give reasons why tenders are knocked back, which apparently is correct.

I just wonder how many other complaints were let slide in this manner ?

As far as the carbon tax is concerned, I was not debating the intricasies of the policy itself as much as I was pointing out the delivery and its success. I put this policy up there with the Rudd dismissal as one of the shackles around her neck. It was never delivered to the electorate adequately and was easily picked off by the opposition and its detractors. Success is very debateable. Communication once again a real issue for Gillard.

For what its worth TV I don't think you are at all settled with anything conservative. Lol.

Good luck to you and keep the passion. To me, which ever side of the divide you sit, this country needs many more of this forums members. We may all disagree but the one thing we have in common is our passion to see this country run right.

I just think we could all do it a little more civilly sometimes, but frustration creates hostility. Lol.

Orrr look, who knows whether your friends situation was also prevalent in terms of his tender....maybe it was, maybe it wasn't! Anyway, the complaints were regarding either value for money or quality, not initial tenders...Anyway he would want to be bloody confident that his tender was the most competitive....lol! You weren't making suggestions that school communities had to seek legal advice were you? I'm guessing not!

As for not being settled for anything conservative! There is nothing that you look back at and say "wow, how visionary". There is nothing I can think of but happy to be corrected or enlightened! I for a while, quite liked costello's values. I suppose I've been an avid supporter of turnbull. It's more to do with how far right they've been leaning as opposed to anything else? I think that is most people's issues along with their lack of vision.

I think diuretic stated something along the lines of abbott changing spots for a time, after having the same ones for years. His spots only changed during his leadership, you'd have to think the old ones will be on display sooner rather than later. Look I just hope he "proves" us all wrong for our countries sake! But unfortunately at the moment I'm feeling pessimistic!

I can`t get my head around the boats being a non issue. This escalating problem is already obscenely expensive in terms of deaths at sea, and financial resources, and has an almost infinite capacity to expand. Howard stopped the boats, Rudd started them up again, Gillard let more and more come, now they MUST be stopped again.

Why? Its a non issue. Process them quicker, keep the genuine refugees and send back the ones who are not.
You cannot send these people back to their war torn countries, where they are in danger of being raped and murdered, or beaten and thrown down a well because they were raped.

This issue has the capacity to quickly escalate to horrific proportions, too many people have died at sea. It`s easy to say to process them quicker, but checks take time, particularly when people come without ID. The resources spent on these people should be spent on people who come through the correct channels.

I agree with the incompetence - has anyone actually SEEN a real live policy statement from the liberals - I mean one that is not a denigration of Labor policies?

And was it any different after Vietnam?

Thing is we have to make it unattractive to get on those boats - that I agree with - I just do not agree with our current methods.

We also have to make it unattractive to run those boats and THAT is where we really really should be heading

Somehow or other the Australian government is being seen as "responsible" for the deaths at sea.

Let us all not lose sight of the fact that this is a an INTERNATIONAL crime just as nasty, just as blameworthy as drug smuggling. We do not blame the government for making Australia look like a good place to sell drugs - why the !@#@! are we blaming them for making Australia look like a good place to live?

If you had been following the thread, you would have been in a position to comprehend, that we are still discussing whether this is even an issue or not. I do have my doubts that you could have acheived that mental milestone by yourself, but here is step one of my answer to your diversion.

Try to stop the deaths at sea, to begin with. The deaths at sea, that have escalated obscenely since the ALP have been in government. Wishy washy dodgy talk won`t bring anyone back, so don`t

Weak government policy was directly responsible for the escalation of the people smuggling trade. This directly resulted in obscene numbers of deaths at sea.

Not really - people smuggling is an international crime that has been on the rise because it is profitable

In the short term, the only thing that's going to "stop the boats" is to refuse to let people who come by boat into the country.

If you just want to stop deaths at sea, then provide a safe ferry service.

I would seriously like to know, why the Australian navy and the Australian tax payers are responsible for these asylum seekers who make a conscious decision to pay people smuggles $8000 to get on a leaky dangerous boat to access Australia through the back door.

These people know its illegal to hire people smuggles and life threatening to arrive on boats.

Therefore, its their own bloody fault for whatever happens. No one forces them onto these boats, and I have no sympathy for them at all. The only one's I have sympathy for, are the children on these boats, who have no options.

Lol.....settle pettle, don't go getting em in a knot! You mentioned asylum seekers not too far back in the thread lmao! You stated that Howard stopped the boats and under labor they've increased. The ugly truth of this issue is that Howard simply politicised it, so now everybody has a negative opinion of asylum seekers! Policy of labor and libs doesn't seem to be too different, the only thing that had changed was scrapping Temporary Protection Visas! What else did Howard do that labor didnt to keep the boats out?

Blaming the people smugglers is a cop out.

Look at the figures. Surely you can`t be that out of touch.

Lol!....We all know what the figures are, but still wondering whether you know something that we don't about their policies! Why have the boats increased? Can you be specific about policy, we need your enlightenment and wisdom!

Anyone who is not completely biased knows and understands that blaming people smugglers is a cop out. People smugglers would not exist, if there were no refugees willing to pay them $8000 for a boat ride through Australia's backdoor.

Why the hell should we be financially or emotionally responsible for these mongrels who are trying to enter our country illegally. These people know they are acting against Australian law and doing the wrong thing by paying people smugglers to get them here, and anyone with half a brain knows it.

Anyone arriving here by boat trying to get through the backdoor, and your application is immediately refused regardless of circumstance.

I am going to ask why but I am expecting a reply along the lines of "you would not be able to understand that"

People smuggling is an international crime - we need to deal with it on an international basis

The crime of monumental stupidity, comitted by the ALP, has resulted in too much death at sea, too much misery.

I think you will find that the Coalition will have about the same success as the current government in stopping this illegal practice. The smuggling industry has come a long way since the Howard era and are far more advanced now. Pity we can't say the same about our political scene.

This issue has such a numerous amount of layers, on both sides of the argument. To genuinely fix this problem you have to go back to the source of the issue itself and fix it. That in itself seems too big a mountain to climb......... so we are stuck with the current model, the good old band aid solution.

As far as I can see it, political parties of the day are just the hands that are juggling the problem.

CD, when people can`t even see that the illegal immigrant, issue is a problem. When they can`t grasp the fact that the weak policies of the ALP are directly responsible for the massive growth of people smuggling activities, and the directly resultant deaths at sea. When they want to play trivial little word games with this issue. How can we expect them to comprehend any of the other obvious facts that you outlined above?

Here is how you stop the boats within 12 months.

Anyone arriving in Australia via these rickety boats trying to sneak in through the backdoor instantly has NO CHANCE of having heir asylum applications processed, and are ALL sent back regardless of circumstance.

I cannot believe that some Australian people are so immature and intellectually stupid, that they believe the Australian tax payers should be emotionally and financially liable and responsible for another group of people who make a conscious decision to engage in illegal activity by paying people smugglers $8000 per ticket to bring them through Australia’s backdoor.

To be perfectly honest, the ALP and their union cohorts are an irrelevant spent force in this country. So any further discussion on what they did or didn’t do is pointless.

Their immature incompetent behaviour and policies have cost this country dearly, and anyone who votes for them is simply a dickhead.

I hope Abbott has the balls to put a stop to these criminals accessing Australia through the backdoor.

People who pay criminals $8000 per ticket to get them into Australia through the backdoor, are no more genuine refugees then my dogs are, and anyone with half a brain could see that.

Then the boats won't stop coming. Lock the backdoor, and you instantly stop the illegal people smuggling trade.
