It would be if you were a GOP supporter and actually thought they cared about infrastructure. As long as the traffic isn’t too bad going to the airport on flight to Cancun, they don’t really give a sht.

What they care about is out of control government spending - not the politicians of course since they love it but the conservatives. Political parties only care about winning elections. Their opinions are of no value because every opinion is related to winning elections.

It's lucky really because here in the UK finding a garage capable of working on the charging system is very difficult. This is more of a real concern than charging stations amongst owners.
Retraining mechanics is expensive but those who do it are in heavy demand.

Guess you're not paying attention...you can have any amount of battery storage you desire...it's 100% dictated by the battery storage capacity installed in the system.

You also are careless with the word 'fact'...

You have zero proof there is out of control government spending! You have no clue whatsoever if the federal budget is low, high or right on! All you have is your political whining which becomes tiresome when all you present is opinions and fiction. You demonstrate one of the main problems in the US today...being incapable of effective problem solving. How can you talk about government budgets when you are not intimately involved in the process and are not open-minded?

    Yup..
On both the EVs and hybrids, it seems you need to be a electrician first. It’s scary lookin* at the battery packs and the warning labels.

Mechanics had to retrain to cope with all the engine management computers and electronics though so it'll come with time.

    I'll ignore the above.

But, I did not argue against eminent domain. The needs of the public justify the use of eminent domain for transportation, for example.

I argued against using eminent domain to take land that is then given to private corporations for furthering their private enterprise. This is not even a legal use of this power.
Public transportation will be built by private contractors who bid for government contracts - roads, light rail, airports, etc.

Our electric grid is well known to be inadequate and fragile even if demand doesn't increase. That will require government contracts to private enterprise - how government gets pretty much everything done where private enterprise will not do it on its own for various sound reasons.

Wind generation is being built by private enterprise. In the central states it is proving to be a new revenue stream for agricultural land owners who have contracts with wind generation corporations.

Local utility districts in most places need to upgrade in order for howm owners to get credit for power they generate. Besides being a significant new source of electricity, that will give a more significant degree of energy independence as well as lower electricity rates to those who own real estate and install solar.

Private enterprise will take care of building vehicles, obviously. They are already doing that.
As for the rest, I think you actually do know the answers even if you won't admit it.

The Navy does nuclear power safely. They don't do it profitably. They don't have to. They're not competing in the free market.

Cheap, safe. Pick one. That's the problem with nuclear power. Cheaper reactors are always supposed to be just around the corner, but they never arrive.

And small reactors everywhere? That's too much of a security nightmare to ever happen.

Wait, there is a whole “generation” using older iPhones that never quit. Like electric cars, they go for a decade with little maintenance. Those of us who drive ten year old cars, use ten year old I phones, will use ten year old EVs.

    Exactly
Biggggg difference between what the military does and what private industry does by cutting corners for profit.

Not only that.....we can build cheaper nuclear power. But leaving it in the hands of civilian capitalists is problematic. It’s not the reactor that’s the problem, it’s the nuclear waste getting into the hands of bad actors.

We still don’t have a way dealing with nuclear waste any more then we have a way of dealing with plastic straws. The problem of nuke waste is largely unsolved in America.

Show us one gop budget that cut spending.....just one. They are suppose to be conservatives. Giving money to the rich doesn't help. Building infrastructures grows the economy. It’s a no brainer.

If the charge comes from "green" generating plants, you'd already have that warm, fuzzy feeling. If the charge comes from a gas or coal-fired plant, you'd just be in denial.

I first became aware of wind, solar and hydro back in 72 when the OPEC nations decided to teach the West a lesson about not helping the Jews of Israel. Nearly 50 years later, for whatever reasons, these sources are still generally more expensive and not sustainable as primary sources for industry and infrastructure.
Maybe the headwinds they've been fighting are artificially generated by those who maintain their wealth with fossil fuels but maybe, there's some other more important factor?

All of a sudden we now have an oil shortage as European oil storage is draining down and world production has been cut so you can expect to be paying much higher gasoline prices very soon. We here in the USA also now have a shortage of domestic steel, copper, graphite and graphene necessary for electric vehicle batteries all have quickly rising prices.

And lest we forget we now have a huge shortage of semi conductors and micro chips needed in auto manufacturing causing world wide auto manufacturing lay offs.

    Seriously?

If anything the battery packs are just a collection of simple components that are a great deal easier to work on. Just need a tester to figure which cells to replace and then swap them out.

The ECU is probably swappable too so I do not understand why any mechanic would not jump at the chance to work on EV's instead of ICE vehicles.

The denial is totally on your end. EVs even powered by the same coal and oil plants, produce much less pollution then gas power cars. EVs are 90% efficient and gasoline is less then 40%. So, you’re dead wrong. Any power added to the grid by renewables, is an added bonus.

Ah, not quite. All those simple little battery components when wired in a car battery pack is much different. The standard 12 volt system in cars
Is replaced by much higher voltage system which is more efficient. It’s like the 220 in your house for some uses is much more efficient then that coming through at 110. And, wouldn’t want to play with the 220 line either.

Plus, In a car, everything is packed in close proximity. Then, there is heat generated by the batteries making simple air filters for its cooling, a very cheap but critical maintain environment item necessary. It’s a whole different ball game for drive train elements.

Its all about efficiency and higher voltages is what it’s about now.

So, unless you’re specifically trained in hybrids and EVs, it’s a very dangerous place to work for the average mechanic who normally does-oil and filter, brake jobs and exhaust, none if which is needed on EVs.
It’s the same in ICE cars as well.

“The venerable 12V electrical system is slowly being supplanted by higher-voltage architectures, especially in hybrids and electric cars. Some of those new systems operate at voltages as high as 450V and 600V, enabling the vehicles to run starter-generators, while minimizing the windings in the electric motors that drive the wheels.”

plus, each EV may have a different architecture. So it’s, factory trained service until everything is standardized. So now, instead of 12 volts, we’re up to 600v in these cars. Because of that, a 200 hp motor might not be much bigger then two coffee cans. So there are valid reasons.

Fortunately, you may turn your car in before any service is needed.
