I haven't got a clue what you are talking about. Leunig is just a pretentious cartoonist, no wonder he is so beloved by the Luvvie Duvvie left.
..... and Gwendoline thinks I'm melodramatic and bordering on poetry If that's what it takes to get people thinking, so be it. At least I've elicited a response finally, and thank you for taking the time to read the thread instead of burying it under the black ash of carbon sidetracking. If it ever does get as bad as I've implied, I'm switching teams guys, I'm simple, not stupid. I'll be the guy in the black cape with the mask and that awesome axe. .... take THAT for letting your freedom go without uttering a word of defiance. next ..... take THAT for putting profit above principal next ....... take THAT for voting without thinking next ........ take THAT for indebting generations by your excess next .......... take that for being too lazy and compliant to think for yourself you spineless twerp next etc etc. I could go on like this ALL DAY Of course I could offer positives and a way out, not wholistically, but there is info out there Gwendoline. But it's like talking sense to an alchoholic, first, you have to get them to admit they have a problem. The problem is not Labour, Liberal or Greens, it's the fairytale delusion of democracy while we empower bad people to do their mandate dance on us. The first positive thing we can do is to stop voting them into power. Anyone have any other ideas ?
I'm sorry. I would like to respond to you - but your post are completely incomprehensible. Does this happen to you often in everyday life?
No, just when people don't bother to read the content of the thread and foolishly try to be funny. Your posts in this thread have done nothing other than taking it off topic, why are you here?
People ARE thinking. They're just thinking different things to you. Surprise. What? Was that catharsis good for you? So why don't you provide IT... instead of all the doomsaying? Would make for a breath of fresh air from you. And round you out. You are projecting. You assume too much. It is always better to ask people before you speak for them. That would be sensible and rational. Admit they have a problem? Lol, who made you God. Come on, Congo, admit it, you are part of the lowly frey... like the rest of humanity. What antidote do you propose for the fairytale delusion? Stop voting them into power? Who exactly are we to vote into power, then?
I didn't start a thread to talk about me Gwendoline, so I'm otping out of those questions you pose pertaining to me. Your last two questions are relevent and I can happily answer the first one for you. The antidote for the delusion of democracy is right here, a forum to discuss it, and to reach others by discussing it with whom ever might be receptive by way of rational cognisance by whatever means you have. You can start by simply explaining your ideas to a voting friend who has enough respect for you that they won't retaliate or try to humiliate you for your seemingly radical ideas. People don't like being told they are living a lie, its puts them completely out of their comfort zone and makes them re-asses their reality, morality and values. If you feel strongly enough about it, you could go public as I have and expose yourself to ridicule and public scrutiny, and then know partly what it feels like to be a politician I guess. Truth should prevail if the argument is presented logically. So what is truth? Are your politicians helping you? Is your life and the quality of life for society at large improving around you? Is the technological advance of mankind turning our existence into an earthly Nirvana or is it being used to exploit mankind and the planet to the benefit of a few? I'm not going to answer this for everyone, but in my world, the answer is fairly obvious. If I'm ever in any doubt, I need only watch the nightly news to review the situation. Gwendoline, your last question I cannot answer, and is the subject matter contained in the first post of this thread, to which I posed the same question. It appears we have gone full circle without resolution here. We might consider that the current brand of democracy is based on hope. We hope that voting for a certain party or personality will do us less harm than voting for the other one. Barrack Obama's campaign was based on this, and we saw him get a Nobel Peace Prize for his words, but his actions indebted the world. The current situation is not good enough, we can carry on or change things, it's YOUR choice.
Barrack Obama's inaugural address was moving prose, eloquently read and it embodied much of what we believe in the principle's and benefits of our perceived democracy. It is well worth reviewing, so I provide a link: http://www.npr.org/2010/12/02/99590481/transcript-barack-obama-s-inaugural-address I mention the above as an example of the disparity between our ideal of democracy and the reality. Most readers here will probably not bother to read Obama's prose linked above, so I quote here the final paragraph of that speech: "Let it be said by our children's children that when we were tested we refused to let this journey end, that we did not turn back nor did we falter; and with eyes fixed on the horizon and God's grace upon us, we carried forth that great gift of freedom and delivered it safely to future generations." Freedom has to be earned, the price has been paid before but the membership fees are due. My apologies for not producing local examples to convey my meaning, but none come to mind immediately.
Ok, SBS on Sunday 4:30pm AEST aired while I was writing these last posts, a program called "The Lightbulb Conspiracy". The ethic and ideas having to do with a real global solution. This is just one example, and like I said, the info is out there, it's simply not well promoted or acted on because it's not in the interest of those in control. I don't wish to be a doomsayer, I'm trying to do my part to prevent it, in the only way I know how to. I'm worried, not educated in social engineering, not to mention the fact that here we go, off topic again What I've been trying to say all along should be obvious by now and IS the subject of this thread: Your political representatives are not representing you, they have other agendas as their priority. Become aware of this fact and act accordingly when you next cast a vote at the polls. Do not be a traitor to yourself by empowering your enemy to claim a mandate. This is a first step, however you achieve it. What it could lead to, I cannot predict, though I doubt the current power structure will easily lose grasp on their global empires.
If the current control system is not elected by popular vote, then I would think they will claim a mandate in any case, thus exposing the dictatorship for what it is. Only then do we have a clear vision of our predicament and we can act accordingly, instead of carrying on like amused drones. I think by now I've discussed this from enough angles, and to me it's simply repetitious and it's starting to irk me quite frankly. I won't be placating any more critics where the information is held in previous pages of this thread. If there is any more useful banter or discussion without personal attacks, I may be happy to post more to discuss these things with you. Furthermore, I won't be defending any more personal attacks, so go for it. This thread was never meant to be about me, it was meant to bring about an awareness of your insidious erosion of freedom through a political system that masquerades as democracy. If you don't like what I say, well, you still have a vote, right ?
Julia Dillard ,oops sorry Gillard and John Coward i mean Howard have been charged with Treason. When will the treasonous GG who is family related to Dillard i mean Gillard going to make them both face the charges that have been labelled against them? When will she make them face the court of LAW they should be facing? PS the GST is an illegal tax upon Australians, so is the carbon tax and they are not even the reasons they have both been charged with treason for.Although it should be an added sentence.
Meanwhile - let's forget these imaginary "treason and traitors" - time we started dealing with the war criminals: Wilkie wants Howard to front Iraq inquiry In March 2003 Mr Howard gave a major speech to the National Press Club saying with great force that the central issue in the case for disarming Iraq was the danger that it would provide Islamic terrorists with the means to attack with weapons of mass destruction. But despite suggestions from within government that he would support the claim with evidence, he was unable to produce new intelligence. Mr Wilkie, now a powerful independent MP, says an inquiry is needed to examine the "behaviour" of Mr Howard and former foreign minister Alexander Downer. "They have never been made to sit down and explain why they, over many, many weeks if not months, argued about weapons of mass destruction and terrorism when it was very quickly apparent that that official case for war was a lie," Mr Wilkie told AM. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2011-08-11/wilkie-wants-iraq-inquiry/2834732 A lot of people bleat about a "lie" told by Gillard. Her "lie" did not result in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians. It is time that Howard and Downer explained why they told lies to start an illegal war - and if necessary face war crime charges.
Well, considering Sadam and his mates used WMD against the Kurds. And haven't since. I'd say mission accomplished.
Yes - he was an ally of the USA when he did that. Why is it that allies of the USA usually end up committing war crimes? An inquiry into Howard's association with war crimes in Iraq is well overdue.
Yes, they do happen every day. But when it is likely that they have been committed by my elected representatives - that is when I really feel a bit miffed. Yes - of course. How silly of me to worry about the deaths of hundreds of thousands of civilians when there are bigger issue to be outraged about:
The law states you can not be taxed for a tax. The GST is payed on the final price which includes taxes.
Mission accomplished? And exactly what "mission" might that have been? There were NO WMD and the UN told all of us that BEFORE HAND! Why is it that...to this very day...so many idiots are content to choke down the BS lies made for that war? Is it some sense of patriotism? Or just plain old dullard-ness?
It's because it tastes like chicken. We all like chicken. And who could blame us? The UN investigator guy who blabbed died, bled to death in suspicious circumstances, and the cause of death was given as suicide, case closed, despite attempts to re-investigate. MMMmmmm Chicken.........
You are missing the point bugalugs, the treason and traitors are real, it's us who enable the war criminals by voting for them. We are the traitors, not only to ourselves but to our soldiers and the the victims of these wars. Our blind stupidity/laziness/weakness is wreaking havoc on the world.
OF COURSE! Why didn't I see this before? Its genius! KENTUCKY FRIED LIES and STIR FRIED ASSASSINATIONS!!!
