Dealing with anti-trans bullying

Maybe she could have just used the restroom of her biological birth gender, if she dressed more conservatively.

Obviously it's going to be difficult for someone who physically looks like one gender but is wearing clothing that is clearly connected to a different gender.

Everyone in town knows that my sister has a trans kid. This is how small towns operate. There are few secrets. So, yes, people show up at school board meetings accusing my sister of being a groomer.

 

Maybe the adult shouldn't have bullying a kid over something that didn't matter.

These days, 95% of the time when that happens, the child didn't push to go into the trans direction all by themselves.

No, I don't empathize with these rabid bullies no matter how much hot garbage Fox News's fear network has spoonfed them. These are the are the same idiots who believed Jade Helm was a thing and still think Obama was born in Kenya. These people, and I know some of them personally, haven't had two brain cells to rub together since we went to school together.

 

First, sending out love to your family and especially your niece. She is fortunate to have such good people around her. Sadly she will need them more than she should, but I want to believe that one day she will live in a world where she can just live her life free of persecution.

Sadly what you describe is WAY to common. Anyone who is trans will have multiple stories of not just 'bullying' (IMHO that makes it sound too mild), but verbal & physical assaults. Frequently these are just for walking down the street looking different. The sort of organized anti-trans hate we regularly see represented on this board gives license to people to behave in the most vile fashion while telling themselves thay are 'good' people. They are not.

Recently I was almost involved in a proper fight for one of the few times in my life when a trans friend was assaulted while standing in the street. Fortunately there were a group of us in close proximity and we got in some good hits on the guy before his friends dragged him away. He was screaming abuse at her as well. Just because she is trans. Not the first time and unlikely to be the last.

Of course, the disgusting anti-trans brigade will ignore this, shrug it off, blame someone else, act as if they are the real victims and refuse to take ANY responsibility for the consequences of their hateful behaviour. That those consequences fall most heavily on children won't even register, which should tell you how little that actually care about kids. They exist purely as political props, not actual people.

This crap makes my blood boil. Mostly because it reminds me of how gay men and youth were treated in the 70's and early 80's. Some of these innuendo soaked 'questions' in this thread are an embarrassment to their authors. We have some fine anti-bullying campaigns in our public schools, but if some of the parents and adults in the community are declaring open season on transexuals and their allies, the kids will see these youth as acceptable targets anyway.

How we adults handle this issue, is truthfully a life or death decision. Bullying kills kids.

 

This is nothing new. The same racist, reactionary, white nationalist tribe has been attacking others since the country was founded.
The trans community is just their latest target.
The fight against evil is ongoing and we must always be ready to cut off the latest heads that the hydra sprouts.

 

I have to say, this isn't really a racial thing. Granted, white bigots are feeling more emboldened and are more expressive but it does go deeper into society.

 

There's overlap, for sure. My wife and I (in an interracial relationship) still get dirty looks when we visit, and the town is famous for being a "sundown town." We used to have a sign saying "If you are black, don't let the sun set on you here." We didn't desegregate public housing until the 90s, whatever year it was that Jurassic Park came out. Hell, some people in the church I grew up in still taught that black people were under the Curse of Ham from the Bible.

Edit: another humorous aside: a road near my home used the be called "Jap Lane." A few years after I left for college, they finally renamed it Japanese Lane.

I think that evil has many faces.
Hatred and bigotry against others is one face that hides behind many masks, but the underlying motivation is selfishness, fear and ignorance, which always drives the worst human behavior.
Look at 1930s America and you will see the forebears of maga attacking Jews, demonizing political opponents and appeasing hitler. The parallels are disturbing and we need to be vigilant to avoid history repeating itself.

 

Lots of PEOPLE are unaccepting. Not sure what your purpose is by pointing out blacks (I'll keep my suspicions to myself). But it's MAGAs who have been politically active trying to impede education on the topic, and stop any effort to accommodate the needs of transgender children so they can enjoy the same rights as everybody else does.

 

What rights don't transgender children have that "everybody else does"?

In this case they were not, at least until the staff intervened. There are many examples out there of transphobes trying to do stuff like this.
