I didn't ask you to speak for a faith. I asked if Christianity is a mental illness. That isn't asking you to speak FOR Christians, but REGARDING them. Otherwise, I accept your confession that you are trans, since you are, by the same logic, speaking FOR trans people.

ECA, despite not agreeing with transgenderism gave a much more thorough explanation than I could earlier in the thread. Basically, it would have to be a consistent distress (not acute) that negatively impacts a person's life for it to rise to the level of a disorder. Plenty of trans people, including my niece, don't fit in that category. The only distress she's exhibited is from outside pressures.

That doesn't answer my question. Is Christianity a mental illness/disorder?

The trans community made themselves a target... because at the end of the day, it's about their need for attention moreso than their need to be themselves.

It is ironic that the majority of "victims" of the left somehow constantly take actions that allow them to scream about what wrongs have been done to them. It's almost like they went looking for it. Nope, not almost. They did. They go looking for opportunities to become victims so they have fuel to push their agenda of acceptance.

News flash. In a free society, people are not obligated to accept you. There will always be people that are bigots, fat shame, don't like redheads... whatever it may be. Too bad. People are allowed to hold those feelings. Only in lefty fantasy land is there some method, usually starting with using government, to force people to believe what you believe. That isn't how reality works.

Wildly irrational victim blaming at its finest.

It's just... why would they go through all the trouble of getting hormones and surgery if it wasn't causing them distress? Getting surgery alone seems like negatively impacting your life. I hope to never need surgery for anything.

I get that there are people who don't bother with hormones or surgery, and go by they, think of themselves as non-binary, for example. But it seems like to have an indication for fairly extreme medical interventions, it would require some level of distress.

We take drugs all of the time for things that cause us distress, but that doesn't make the distress rise to the level of a mental disorder.

It does when it's a psychiatric condition, even one of the less stimatizing ones like anxiety.

Even taking medication for depression or anxiety doesn't mean you have a disorder.

I would say it does, but would be interested in a psychiatrist's input. Maybe you resist it because you're worried about stigma. Or that it needs to be something permanent? Doesn't Mental disorders (who.int)

    "Key facts
    • 1 in every 8 people in the world live with a mental disorder
    • Mental disorders involve significant disturbances in thinking, emotional regulation, or behaviour
    • There are many different types of mental disorders
    • Effective prevention and treatment options exist
    • Most people do not have access to effective care
A mental disorder is characterized by a clinically significant disturbance in an individual’s cognition, emotional regulation, or behaviour. It is usually associated with distress or impairment in important areas of functioning. There are many different types of mental disorders. Mental disorders may also be referred to as mental health conditions. The latter is a broader term covering mental disorders, psychosocial disabilities and (other) mental states associated with significant distress, impairment in functioning, or risk of self-harm."

It said 1 in 8 live with it currently, but if we're talking about lifetime prevalence it's going to be above half. The way a person feels and thinks is highly likely to get in the way of optimal living and functioning at some point.

I would say that, understandably and almost reliably, there would be some distress associated with feeling you were born in the wrong body according to how you think and feel. If taking medication and getting surgeries is worth it, there should be some level of distress... it needn't be so severe they're being histrionic and contemplating suicide.

    "Victim" blaming.

    - First openly trans celebrity - 1958
    - First Pride Parade - 1970
    - First trans olympic athlete - 1975
    - Canadian Human Rights Act modified to include trans - 2002
    - First trans Visibility day - 2009
    - First trans "miss" contestant - 2023

The overwhelming majority of trans related issues occurred from 1970 onward. Or not even 50 years ago.

Even Google trends indicates that around 2012, transgender searches drastically increased.

    https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?date=all&geo=US&q=transgender&hl=en

So what drove this? Do you really think that SUDDENLY, people opposed to gender dysporia and transgenderism suddenly elected to go "you know what? We need to take a stand..."

Obviously not. So what did happen?

It doesn't. Even your family physician can prescribe medication for anxiety or depression. It doesn't have to be for a disorder. Being depressed or anxious, even taking medication for it, doesn't mean you have a mental disorder.

I forgot you didn't acknowledge the existence of individuals or individualism. Carry on with the collectivist victim blaming.

Well, I don't know if I want to go on and on arguing semantics. Agree to disagree.

Edit: Though I guess what concerns me is people trying to avoid "mental disorder" because it's a bad label to avoid. It would be better if it were normalized like other medical disorders - they're just problems to be treated and everybody has problems at some point. They may be permanent or not. The only real consideration is how to identify and treat disorders.

Maybe insisting that you should have privileges no one else has is a bad look.

yardmeat, the trouble is, you believe this person to "be" trans.

the problem is that there are different possible qualities of "being", and not all persons who consider themselves to be "trans" actually are so in the same way, and these persons themselves likely may not actually know.

Some people "become" trans but then later on realize that they are not and were never actually really trans, in the way that they thought they were.
