The ‘1 in 4 women have been raped myth’ comes from a study by Mary Koss. However this study has been largely discredited. For example ¾ of the women Koss reported as victims of rape reported in a follow up interview that they had not been raped.
You would think you would know if you had been raped wouldn’t you? Why did she count them as rape victims if they themselves did not believe they had been raped? Because they answered affirmative that they had sex after drinking alcohol, and Koss’s study consisted of college students, and college students tend to attend parties where they often drink and have sex:

An excerpt from Sommer’s study discrediting the 1 in 4 women have been raped myth:

For Gilbert, the most serious indication that something was basically awry in the Ms./Koss study was that the majority of women she classified as having been raped did not believe they had been raped. Of those Koss counts as having been raped, only 27 percent thought they had been; 73 percent did not say that what happened to them was rape.

And The study by Sommers clearly shows the link between feminism and the ‘1 in 4 women have been raped myth’:

Of the rape studies by nongovernment groups, the two most frequently cited are the 1985 Ms. magazine report by Mary Koss and the 1992 National Women's Study by Dr. Dean Kilpatrick of the Crime Victims Research and Treatment Center at the Medical School of South Carolina. In 1982, Mary Koss, then a professor of psychology at Kent State University in Ohio, published an article on rape in which she expressed the orthodox gender feminist view that "rape represents an extreme behavior but one that is on a continuum with normal male behavior within the culture" (my emphasis).[6] Some well-placed feminist activists were impressed by her. As Koss tells it, she received a phone call out of the blue inviting her to lunch with Gloria Steinem.[7] For Koss, the lunch was a turning point. Ms. magazine had decided to do a national rape survey on college campuses, and Koss was chosen to direct it. Koss's findings would become the most frequently cited research on women's victimization, not so much by established scholars in the field of rape research as by journalists, politicians, and activists.

Your many threads and posts are all indirectly telling us something about you.
Do you even know what it is, or why you wish to spill your guts so?
Whatever it is, this is all most unattractive. Maybe some introspection is called for?
    Try it!

As always, your unique take things.
And as noted, the immunity to introspection.

(love the "Im rubber and you are glue" bit, its on a par with the
one of identifying an "ad hom" behind every tree)

The alleged incidence of rape is the result of female rape of statistics.

And rape is the result of heinous criminality.

Women are raped and instead of expressing sympathy to those women who are abused and violated, you turn this into a vehicle to bash women more.

    Irresponsible and callous.

Any rape, regardless of whether its a man raping a woman or a woman raping a man is the result of heinous criminality.

Seriourly the ignorance seems to be from you.

No one is claiming rape does not exist or happen as you imply they will state. No one is defending the crime either.

But feminists do have a vested interest in painting a false picture of rape being common or more frquent than it is. That seems to be what the OP is about.

Yes you are correct that many incidents of rape are unreported on the other hand many false accusations of rape go unpunished.

We cannot accurately say how many unreported crimes of rape exist because they are unreported. On the other hand we can see many false and fraudulent accusations however and these allegations are also the result of heinous criminality. Therefore on the other hand rape is sometimes overreported.

Any proven crime of rape deserves severe penalties for the perpetrator and no one I know of denies that. However what is often ignored is penalties for the liars and false accusers who destroy the lives of the innocent. The only thing as bad or worse than being a rape victim is being the victim of a false accusation.

I'm not necessarily opposed to your position, but this post came off as very exaggerated. Ryobi's post didn't seem to me to warrant that sort of response.

Bottom line: think what you like about rape and rape statistics, what I care about is action. What action would you take?

Avoiding being raped, you mean? That would seem advisable :p

I don't understand men who rape women. Does the thought not repulse them? I don't think I would physically be able to.

Feminists have started claiming 1 in 3 women have been raped now. They don't cite a study. They've probably learned from experience their studies can be scrutinized and discredited, so they might as well claim 1 in 3 women have been raped without a study. Since feminism is politically correct, who's going to question such a statistic anyways?

'change your mind after the fact' sex is not rape
drunk sex is not rape (not the same as passed out from drinking or drugs)
extortion after sex is not rape (ie - Kobe Bryant)
getting caught cheating by your b/f or hubby then claiming rape is not rape - (ie - Jameis Winston - FSU QB)
being used as a hit it and quit it when you thought it was love is not rape

eliminate all scenarios above and you start getting to real cases of rape that should be stopped.

    drugging a girl (date-rape)
having sex with a passed out girl (date rape)
    forced sex
    sex with underaged victim (statutory)

1 out of every 6 American women has been the victim of an attempted or completed rape in her lifetime (14.8% completed rape; 2.8% attempted rape).1

17.7 million American women have been victims of attempted or completed rape.1

9 of every 10 rape victims were female in 2003.2

    2. U.S. Department of Justice. 2003 National Crime Victimization Survey. 2003.

So even though the figure is 1 in 6, it is still extremely high.

For someone who has had the unfortunate experience of a real violent rape, those
who make false claims are profoundly offensive.

For those victimized by false accusations of any sort, that is a terrible injustice which should properly outrage all.

    Agreed

Anything that inhibits the ability to make a 'sound in body and mind' (informed consent) decision should be taken into consideration by the man before initiating sex, otherwise you end up with the situation of some men (& women) purposely getting the woman (or man) drunk in order to lower their reluctance level purely to have sex with them, this in my opinion is a form of rape.

    Agreed

    Agreed

    Agreed

All the above, except number two, have one thing in common, they have all shown to be sex by consent given by a person in 'sound body and mind' and could not be rape.

Agree with all of these, though your last one has similarities to your "drunk sex" item, it is an assumption by the law that a person under age is not capable of giving informed consent, that has little difference to someone who is intoxicated due to the effects of alcohol or drugs it could be argued that they could also not give informed consent.

Not quite that high, but still higher than average.

Lifetime rate of rape /attempted rape for women by race:1

    All women: 17.6%
    White women: 17.7%
    Black women: 18.8%
    Asian Pacific Islander women: 6.8%
    American Indian/Alaskan women: 34.1%
    Mixed race women: 24.4%

Estimating Gender Disparities in Federal Criminal Cases

    Sonja B. Starr

    University of Michigan Law School

    August 29, 2012

University of Michigan Law and Economics Research Paper, No. 12-018

    Abstract:
This paper assesses gender disparities in federal criminal cases. It finds large gender gaps favoring women throughout the sentence length distribution (averaging over 60%), conditional on arrest offense, criminal history, and other pre-charge observables. Female arrestees are also significantly likelier to avoid charges and convictions entirely, and twice as likely to avoid incarceration if convicted. Prior studies have reported much smaller sentence gaps because they have ignored the role of charging, plea-bargaining, and sentencing fact-finding in producing sentences. Most studies control for endogenous severity measures that result from these earlier discretionary processes and use samples that have been winnowed by them. I avoid these problems by using a linked dataset tracing cases from arrest through sentencing. Using decomposition methods, I show that most sentence disparity arises from decisions at the earlier stages, and use the rich data to investigate causal theories for these gender gaps.

don't see what this has to do with rape TBH, as it is about Federal Criminal cases in general, got anything that is specific to rape?

I'm sorry you don't have the inclination to actual use the sources provided, so in the interest of fair play -

why is it rape when a woman gets smashed drunk (not passed out, but completely trashed) by her own hand, but when a man does that, he's just a pig.

I posted a true story in this forum about getting trashed, drunk texting a bunch of girls, and one (sober) girl replied, came and got me, then had sex with me. I was careful to leave it gender nuetral, (didn't let it be known that the drunk one was a male in the story and that it was a sober female I wasn't interested in sexually prior to the drunk night) People were screaming "it was rape, go to the authorities" but when a poster pointed out I was a male, everyone changed their tune and accused me of being an alcoholic
