Rising wages increase aggregate demand. Too much and inflation rises. MW earners are too small a segment of the workforce to have much of an effect on inflation, though with many states already surpassing the federal minimum, inflation may be localized in those states that haven't. With people struggling to pay their rent, that's probably not going to happen. Giving everybody a raise would bring high inflation in a short period of time. Not a good idea.

If demand rises, supply has to rise to meet the demand. And that will get production lines to increase as well. This is how we rebounded from the Great Depression. Frankly an injection of capital into the middle class wouldn't be so bad. We just have to make sure it's targeted with that in mind. So as an example, the family credits is something Japan uses for its current situation. Things like that.

Agreed, but supply doesn't have to rise. It generally does, as the incentive to do so is great, but many things effect supply. Notably, the cost of capital, which in times of high inflation can be prohibitive.

You should've emphasized WORKING instead of POOR. $15 phr doesn't match Biden's incentives to stay home.

How much is Biden paying people to stay home? Last I heard it was 300 bucks a week.

If only. Sadly whole swathes of the population have convinced themselves of the most bizarre things. They mainline right wing propaganda (which is freqently funded by people with a vested interest) and simply accept it as truth without digging any further.

    I offer an example:

Australia pays the equivalent of US$15 per hour as the minimum wage. You can buy a Big Mac AND fries for the equivalent of $US8. So, people just make stuff up because someone told them something.

Sure ... on top of states benefits. Plus expanded eligibility for SNAP. The last jobs report should've been a wake up call, but it looks like it wasn't enough of one.

So Biden is to blame for the state benefits?

Did you not say this....doesn't match Biden's incentives to stay home.

Why do people run from their own words so very much?

I said that. I said Biden's additional incentives $ 300 + SNAP makes even a $15 phr min. wage less appealing. If you disagree, explain why. For single parent households where school, or daycare directly impacts the ability to work, the incentive to stay home is even greater. Biden's policies haven't even gotten our teachers off the couch and back to work.

So in order to have reasonable prices for the rest of us, we require a poverty class?

yes, some could not afford to give up slaves either... time to end slave wages, someone will take their place that can afford to pay workers a living wage

Your prediction is noted. My prediction is that paying people to ass-sit is not sustainable and when the money runs out, the overweight, lazy, out of practice job seeker will have a lot of trouble finding a job. How will this ice cream shop compete with this?

Are we talking about minimum wage or about govt aid? I thought you cared about the poor, do they have to become homeless first? Is that it?

They already do. Quite easily. Americans still prefer quality in some products. Ice cream is one of those.

They don't, but we are discussing raising min wage to their current level of pay. If the pay was the same, would you rather handle ice cream or bodily fluids?

Well, what an increase in the minimum wage may or may not do is "debatable" (obviously). but ain't NOBODY gonna pay $25 for a burger, with the exception of the wealthy so's they can eat theirs without having to rub elbows with the hoi polloi...also has a lot to do with location. A couple years ago here some poor sap opened a restaurant and a burger with fries was well north of ten bucks, he folded in about four months. A retail business or restaurant can charge what they want....and consumers can walk right past them.

Caring for the poor should not resemble caring for a pet.
