He didnt discriminate against them because they were gay. It was because what the cake was used to celebrate.

Sounds like you just missed the part where I said, AND 4,200 various religions and you don't want to admit it.

Well duh. Fact is you're playing the religious lottery here. With 4,200 choices in religion and multiple denominations from each one it sounds like the odds are stacked highly against you. So good luck with that.

So you don't think same-sex marriages are gay?

So you're still can't be bothered to look anything up on the Internet as you claimed in another thread....so just keep repeating the same thing over and over as if it'll make it true....it won't.

When discussing any serious or controversial topic (especially politics and religion), arguements should be very specific, which is what I will do. I will specify what exactly im trying to argue for. Jack Philips clearly said HE HAD NO PROBLEM SELLING CAKES OR ANY BAKED GOODS TO GAY CUSTOMERS. It wasnt the lifestyle of his customers that bothered him. It was what the cake was being used to celebrate.

    Good for him.

He shouldn't have to compromise his beliefs for anyone.

And people who do are not tolerant. Tolerant people would not support his business and go elsewhere.

This "you have to accept me because I say so" is a bunch of nonsense. People have the right to say no.

The people getting married in a same sex wedding are gay, but the wedding/event itself is not "gay".

And it doesn't matter because he is in error and he violated anti-discrimination laws. It's just as discriminatory as not selling a cake to an Asian couple because it'd be celebrating an Asian wedding and your religion says that's bad. Gimme a break!

    So then what's the problem?

Legal allowance does not equal moral responsibility to do something, which is what youre implying.

He wouldn't be in business if he had a problem baking cakes for sinnerssince everybody is one so that is a stupid statement.

Perhaps he was being too nosey. The customer is always right. But it isn't against the law to be a (*)(*)(*)(*)ty business man.

Its simple. If you file for a business license as serving the public, then you serve the public. Not just your favorite members of the public. You serve black people, white people ,blind people, veterans, catholics, jews, either gender or orientation. Your religious affiliation, or its constraints are none of the govt's business. On the flip side, you ought not make it impact govt that you have a specific faith or constraint. If folks start using their favorite interpretation of their favorite Bible as an out to ignore the laws and regulation that govt imposes on individual or businesses, it has an impact. If your faith interferes with your ability to obey the laws as a businessman that pertain to being a business. Then don't be in business. This applies to environmental law, zoning ordinances, building codes, health codes and any other statute. Bakeries file for a business license as serving the general public by baking wedding cakes. They do not bake heterosexual cakes. they bake and decorate cakes.

I didn't understand what you said so I am asking if you can phrase it in a different way?

Okay. What I'm saying is that just because a person has the legal right to do something, it doesn't mean they should do it, from a moral perspective. From a moral perspective, why should the gay couple sue him, if he wasnt being hateful, and he would sell them cakes, if it wasn't for the cakes being used to celebrate a gay wedding?

I personally wouldn't sue, I think these people did because they were butthurt.

However the baker really shot himself in the foot with this one. What difference does it make if they are going toeat that cake at a wedding? It's just a cake.

Ooohh, well yeah, just because someone has legal license to do things doesn't mean they have to, but I guess these guys wanted to. How much do you wanna bet that things like this happen all the time though and people just move on and find another baker? You see we don't hear about those cases because they don't sue and it's not publicized.

we're talking about a non-essential service. We're not talking about getting chemotherapy or insulin (for example)

It's about using the current political climate to bludgeon people and to force your sexual lifestyle upon those who disagree with it.

It's a sad day in this country when the only choice a business owner has is to go against his/her religious beliefs or to close shop.

How can forcing the homosexual lifestyle upon people be seen as a positive thing?

I don't believe that the banker should be forced to sell a cake to somebody if he doesn't want to, but I don't buy this bull(*)(*)(*)(*) about religious beliefs. I know of no religion that forbids commerce with homosexuals. That's kind of like pulling the race card.

Just remember, religious people have no rights. They must accept homosexuals and obey the anti-religious paradigm.

...just remember EVERYONE has rights, even the non-religious, even people we don't agree with, and all are expected to obey the law, even religious people.

What rights have been taken away from religious people? I am religious but my rights aren't being taken.
