Baker won't compromise religion for homosexuals, no longer offers wedding cakes

Just because what the bank robber did was illegal, it doesn't mean that the bank should press charges against him ?

Pay some attention to the context. The larger battle here is against discrimination on the part of bigots, which serves to create second class citizens. People like this baker have their bigotry challenged deliberately, as test cases, in order to create or clarify anti-discrimination laws. They might not even WANT the cake; they only want to ensure that they and those like them can get cakes from everyone selling cakes in the future.

Rosa Parks did not NEED to sit in the front of the bus. She knew she risked at least a beating, and perhaps her life, by doing so. But her purpose was to make it possible for anyone who wished to sit wherever they wanted in any bus in the future. And similarly, the purpose of trying to buy that cake was explicity to be refused, because such refusal made it possible to bring charges. And the charges were the purpose for the entire exercise. We understand that it's impossible to stamp out bigotry - nobody will ever be able to open your mind, for example. But they CAN make you behave as though you had an open mind, and that's the best a society can do.
