Yes, exactly! Many people don't seem to realise that they are two completely different things.

    These are the simple facts:

"Australia's Immigration Program has two components:

•Migration Program for skilled and family migrants
•Humanitarian Program for refugees and others in refugee–like situations."

    http://www.immi.gov.au/media/fact-sheets/60refugee.htm

Boat people are legal asylum seekers ("refugee-like situations"), and there is NO queue for the Humanitarian Program.

No, the Australian Government publishes the facts:

    http://www.immi.gov.au/media/fact-sheets/60refugee.htm

"The Humanitarian Program has two important functions:

•it fulfils our international obligations by offering protection to people already in Australia who are found to be refugees according to the Refugees Convention (known as the onshore protection/asylum component)
•it expresses our commitment to refugee protection by going beyond these obligations and offering resettlement to people overseas for whom this is the most appropriate option (known as the offshore resettlement component)."

    The facts.

In case you missed the facts:

    1. There are two components to the Australian Immigration Program (Migration AND Humanitarian).
    2. The Humanitarian Program has no queue: it is for refugees and others in refugee–like situations.

Even a person with perfect vision will not be able to see something that does not exist.

    They are not 'illegals'.

The 1951 Convention relating to the Status of Refugees and The 1967 Protocol:

    http://www.unhcr.org/pages/49da0e466.html

Under the Convention, Australia has an international legal obligation to protect asylum seekers who arrive in our country with a genuine refugee claim.

The Humanitarian Program has no queue.

    http://www.amnesty.org.au/refugees/comments/22616/

Disappointingly, the term “queue jumper” is now so deeply entrenched in our nation’s vernacular that some Australian politicians use it interchangeably with the term “asylum seeker”.

No amount of spin by those with vested interests will change the fact that numerous people, because of our gutless pollies and their sycophamts in the legal 'profession',
are being allowed to barge, shove and push their way into this country, ahead of those who are patiently waiting their turn.

    It is a disgarce!

I noticed that you conveniently avoided the Australian Government link:

    http://www.immi.gov.au/media/fact-sheets/60refugee.htm

Just another one of the 'vested interests'?

    How about this one then:

    http://www.immi.gov.au/media/fact-sheets/61asylum.htm

"Australia provides protection for asylum seekers who meet the United Nations definition of a refugee, as defined in the 1951 Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees and its 1967 Protocol (Refugees Convention).

The majority of people in need of protection in Australia are resettled from other countries through Australia's offshore humanitarian resettlement program. In the 2009–10 program year, 67 per cent of visas were granted to people offshore under the offshore humanitarian resettlement program.

Each year however, several thousands of people already in Australia make applications for protection (refugee status).

These include people who arrived lawfully and who have been staying in the Australian community, and people who have arrived unlawfully in Australia by sea or air."

These are the facts from the Australian Government. Just spin?

The Humanitarian Program has no queue. You can say it as much as you like, but that won't change the fact: there is NO queue.

Remember, ... there are TWO components to Australia's Immigration Program. By ignoring this simple fact you seem to be confusing yourself.

Who cares about a 1951 convention. Let's get up to date and address a modern day issue. If you want to live in the past, that's your problem.

For starters, everyone in the Department of Immigration and Citizenship cares about The 1951 Convention: it is still current, and Australia is a signatory.

Refugees are still refugees, no matter what the year may be.

Thanks for the offer, but I'm happy living in the present. If I need the DeLorean, I'll let you know.

I don't have any problems on this issue, however, you seem to. Perhaps if you took some time to study the relevant documentation you may gain a better understanding of the situation.

Perhaps, if you took time to enter the 21st century instead of living in the distant, dim past, you may be capable of entering this century.

    Care to elaborate?

I've been citing references to current legislation, conventions and protocols that apply to Australia today, in the 21st Century.

So, how exactly am I "living in the distant, dim past" if I'm discussing Australia's immigration policy as it is today - 3rd March 2011?

I'm pretty sure this century IS the 21st century (of the Anno Domini era, or the Common Era, in accordance with the Gregorian calendar).

    Did you miss something?

So, you don't abide by 'old' laws then?

I'm guessing you're not a fan of any of these Commonwealth Acts then:

    CENSUS AND STATISTICS ACT 1905
    CHRISTMAS ISLAND ACT 1958
    COMMONWEALTH BANKS ACT 1959
    COMMONWEALTH ELECTORAL ACT 1918
CONTROL OF NAVAL WATERS ACT 1918
    CRIMES (OVERSEAS) ACT 1964
    CRIMES ACT 1914
    SCOUT ASSOCIATION ACT 1924
    SUPERANNUATION ACT 1922
    SURPLUS REVENUE ACT 1908
    WAR CRIMES ACT 1945
    WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION ACT 1947
    TREASURY BILLS ACT 1914
PUBLIC ACCOUNTS AND AUDIT COMMITTEE ACT 1951
    ACTS PUBLICATION ACT 1905
    AIR FORCE ACT 1923
    AIR NAVIGATION ACT 1920
    BANKING ACT 1959
    DEFENCE ACT 1903

Do you actually have any idea how the legislative process works?

Get it through your head. When circumstances change, you make changes to the applicable legislation. Otherwise you remain a dinosaur, stuck in the dirty, murky past.

So, you choose to ignore the Acts I listed? Too old for you? Do you ignore them all, or just the ones you don't like? How about the Crimes Act 1914? The Defence Act 1903? Good, bad? Stuck in the dirty, murky past?

Moreover, could you please explain the changing circumstances (as you see them) that warrant Australia ignoring their Humanitarian Program and the UN Convention.

So you are ignoring the facts which have been posted? You have read these facts and decided that your own opinion, of a non existent queue, is more likely, eh?

Where is this queue? I want to see it. Provide evidence.

Yes, but they are immigrants. They are simply people who may have decided to move to Australia for work or something. They didn't flee from their countries, the asylum seekers have.

    Exactly right.

Australia's Immigration Program has two components:

    1. •Migration Program for skilled and family migrants (the paperwork is put in a 'queue', to a certain extent).

    2. •Humanitarian Program for refugees and others in refugee–like situations (no queue whatsoever exists - absolutely none).

This thread is about 'Boat People'.
'Boat People' are asylum seekers, under the UN Convention (of which Australia is a signatory).
Asylum seekers (under the Australian Humanitarian Program) are not required to form a queue.

It really is very simple to understand (for some).

There are none so blind as those who do not wish to see (what is under their collective noses).

The queue is scattered all over the world. If you refuse to see it, or accept that it exists, then that's your problem.

Then provide some god (*)(*)(*)(*)ed evidence to prove it, or admit you have nothing and concede.

Of course a queue exists, otherwise we would be accepting millions of people into OZ.

Your declaration is so silly it's hard to believe you have the gall to write it.

Incorrect. There is no queue for asylum seekers.

No, it's clear who has the problem.

Asylum seekers (under the Australian Humanitarian Program) are not required to form a queue.

No queue exists. No Government agency in Australia requires any asylum seeker to form a queue. You are imagining this stuff, or hearing it on the Channel 7 News or 60 Minutes.

Do yourself a favour and turn off the TV, and read some facts.

Anyone with an ounce of 'you know what' would unilaterally concede there is queue.

If you refuse to accept that fact, then that's your problem

Your ignorance is impossible to believe.

Once you've learned the difference between 'migrant' and 'asylum seeker', you can come back into the discussion.
