I just lost my dearest freind, and he would have commited suicide by another means if he was not retired Military, and had not a sidearm.

First of all just because you are not looking to ban guns, does not mean that there are not representives in law making positions that share your view.

Also, as YEARS go by, and we see more terrorist activity and mass shootings (gun laws won't stop these), anti gunner lawmakers will become more vocal about banning guns and liberal pressure will grow.
We have no intention of giving them an easy path to do this by giving them records of who the firearm owners are in this country.

 

Being against all gun control because you are afraid of a ban is equal to being afraid of any law because it could lead to totalitarianism.
