The hysteria meme is what is different this time around. In my life time every new strain of virus has been approached similarly by medical professionals and governments.

Check out the FoxNews reaction to Ebola as opposed to Covid-19. That’s really where the difference lies: the view through their political prism.

I don’t recall locking down the living to stop the dead from dying.

In Italy the mean age for those serious/critical is 65. That means half of the people serious/critical in Italy is under 65.

Germany has the lowest death rate. 1908 infected but only 3 deaths. Looks like they have an excellent health service in Germany.

Wrong. I have not yet seen you use rational thought. Simplistic thinking only. I doubt you even looked at that video I had found separately to you. You made a comment about there being lots of research about to find a cure. There is plenty of research I am in no doubt but relying on this bringing a cure so that you or anyone else can ignore the reality we have now is insanity.

This was only a supposition as people try to understand why South Korea has so few deaths compared to Italy. I made clear that that was the fact. To you it is already the cure.

You also did not take into account that straight away when they found the virus South Korea stopped allowing people from China and other infected areas in. That was them taking the first point in beating the virus - keeping it out. They then started testing ten thousand people a day and immediately started treatment on any testing positive. Within that are two differences. The US has I think even now only tested about 5,000 people. I hear they have to have three criteria before they can get a test and given that one of those is to have been in contact with someone from an affected country, forgetting that that is themselves, most people will be refused. The US Government though not individual States appears to have been trying to give a false impression and this has almost certainly allowed the virus to spread widely. That puts the US in the position that it is likely to get hospital overload as Italy is experiencing. In addition clearly they are not in any way trying to treat everyone as soon as they read positive so what is happening in South Korea belongs to South Korea and not the US. Germany is another country with very low deaths. It is being suggested that this is because of its very strong health service.

In addition the US and Europe have not kept out people from infected countries, nor do people en mass wear masks which is another suggestion as to why South Korea possibly has the edge on this with very few deaths.

So it is not just some magic cure which you appear to believe South Korea has. It also is the behaviour in the country. I mentioned some time ago in a thread that the reason the WHO raised the expected death rate to 3.4% was because of the inactivity in addressing it in countries like the United States. They said the same when pronouncing somewhat late that it is a pandemic.

It certainly looks so from the information we have. I have written the reasons for that several times.

Oh please. Now you have found out that children and healthy adults appear not to get infected badly you believe that no one else knows this. So far no child under ten has been infected badly. A few over ten who have other illnesses have. I am glad you have found out that healthy adults generally are not infected. However anyone who has been following this for some time and I have for about two months has known this for a long time.

Edit Just watching a Brit in his 20/30's in China with previous good heath describing what the different phases were for him before he had to go to the hospital for pneumonia.

World still won’t end and the virus will not be stopped, but people will lose their houses, bankruptcies will rise, jobs will be lost, suicide rates will increase, businesses will fail, unemployment will rise, authoritarianism will grow, liberty fade. because of a national hysteria, and a nationalist nutcase as President.

Quite the mess. Hopefully, the capitalists will save us from our folly, create a cure and a vaccine, and the destruction caused by the hysteria can be mitigated.

    .
And you still haven’t rebutted this video:

Seriously, canceling life is the solution to stopping death?

You drink beer as fast as you can and hold it as long as you can, seeing who can urinate the longest as verified by stop watch. Nobody ever came close to 3:47

Oh, no way I'm topping that!

Back in 1988 while I was in Japan they had a TV game show. 4 people drank pitchers of beer, then all got into separate tubs of ice water. The tubs had a chemical that turned blue if you took a pee in the water. Game was last one to pee won... :)

The flu: 100 plus children dead, hundreds of thousands infected, let’s play basketball. COVID-19: No children dead, a thousand infected, let’s not play basketball. What a bunch of MFKN morons.

Not to mention the millions of children who would be saved if the ban on DDT were lifted. The world is ruled by the insane.

Everything is OK. We have had all kinds of virus pandemics over the years. The only one that has caused a fuss is this one and the fuss is the real problem.

Yes, let’s destroy the economy to save the dead from dying. “Brilliance in disguise”, sneered the statists.

Curious, will the human death rate rise, fall, or remain constant because of this non-lethal virus, (non-lethal for the vast majority, though deadly for the very very few).

Again curious, have my odds of dying today increased, decreased, or remained constant because of the is non-lethal virus, (non-lethal for the vast majority, though deadly for the very very few).

When is it morally justified to quarantine? When the health benefits outweigh the economic costs. With a 99-99.3 survival rate, this virus does not justify anything but good hygiene and sanitation. It most certainly does not justify the destruction of a person’s, community’s or nation’s economy, let alone the world’s.

Each day we live the odds increase that tomorrow we die -- as always -- pick any year in the past, pick any year in the future.

As to coronavirus the USA is flattening the curve and your odds are better that you won't succumb to COVID-19.

If the median age for serious/critical were 65, then it would mean that half the serious/critical were under 65. You can't tell that sort of thing from the mean alone.

If the mean is 65 then if there are many serious ill who are much over 65 then it would mean that there are people who are much younger than 65 who are seriously ill. I would be surprised if the mean is as young as 65 though

Is the virus destroying the world economy or is it the panic? What if we all just went about our business, caught the damned bug and got over it and didn't shut down the world?

Do that and there would be millions of 70 year olds dead worldwide. How old are your parents and grandparents and do you visit them much?
