I'm happy that Cohen is back in prison, but I wish it were a much harsher prison; instead, corruption happens, and he gets to spend his days in Club Fed. Such is life. Let's move on.

'Big mistake': Barr, White House officials tried to keep Trump from getting involved in Stone's sentencing
    https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/do...e-officials-tried-keep-trump-getting-n1233592

WASHINGTON — Some White House officials were against offering clemency to Roger Stone and were outraged by President Donald Trump's decision to do so Friday night, people familiar with the matter told NBC News.

Among those opposed to Trump's decision to spare his longtime adviser from having to report to prison next week was White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, according to a person familiar with the situation. Multiple White House officials even advised the president against the commutation, according to a second source.

The opposition was fueled by concerns that Trump could face significant political blowback and could be seen as abusing his presidential power — a risk the president cannot afford to take as he continues to trail former Vice President Joe Biden in the national polls and in key battle ground states, raising red flags for his re-election chances.
    .........................................................................................................
The concern was Don could be seen as abusing his presidential power...........not that he did abuse it.

Cohen was sentenced for real crimes that had nothing to do with Trump. Stone was sentenced for ticky tac process crimes that fell out from his connection with the Trump campaign, as tenuous as that was. "Rule of law no longer matters, folks" my ass.

"Given that Stone had publicly stated he was in contact with Julian Assange in the summer of 2016, the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI) called him as a witness in its investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election. The HPSCI investigation sought to understand what Stone knew about WikiLeaks, how he heard about it,and what he told the Trump Campaign.
First, Stone claimed to Congress he didn’t have anything in writing that related to Julian Assange – no emails, texts, documents,or anything at all. In fact, he had hundreds of such communications. Next, Stone lied to Congress about his intermediary to WikiLeaks, insisting that his public statements in August 2016 about an intermediary to Assange referred to Randy Credico – never naming Jerome Corsi, who had told him in August about the game “hackers were about,” and that they planned more dumps, including in October.
Stone further testified that he had nothing in writing with his 2. Stone’s False Testimony to Congress Stone repeatedly lied to the committee about these matters. 5 intermediary, and that his intermediary was “not an email guy.” when Stone actually had hundreds of messages with both Corsi and Credico. Lastly, Stone repeatedly lied to the Committee about his contacts with the Trump campaign. Stone testified that he’d never discussed his WikiLeaks intermediary with anyone involved with the Trump campaign. But Stone had extensive discussions involving the information he was receiving about WikiLeaks throughout the summer and fall with Manafort, Gates, Bannon, and Trump."

I continue to be astonished at how you twist objective facts to fit a completely dishonest narrative.

I never said Stone was not guilty of lying to congress. I said it was a ticky tac crime. Ticky tac referring to the nature of the crime, not what they law says how much he can be hammered for it.

    Headline from 538.com....

Obama Granted Clemency Like No Other President in History
    https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/obama-granted-clemency-unlike-any-other-president-in-history/

In one more end-of-presidency act of clemency aimed at prisoners serving long sentences for drug-related offenses, President Obama announced Thursday that he is commuting the sentences of 330 prisoners. He has granted clemency to more people than any president since Harry S. Truman,Not including the mass pardons Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter granted to Vietnam War-era draft dodgers, which were not individual acts of clemency administered through the Department of Justice.

    ">1
and Thursday’s announcement was typical of how Obama’s approach to clemency has differed from that of his predecessors: Obama’s clemency is almost always given by freeing people from prison with commuted sentences, not pardoning people after their release.

On Tuesday, with less than a week left in office, Obama granted clemency to 273 federal inmates, including Chelsea Manning, the army intelligence analyst who was convicted in 2013 of disclosing sensitive information to WikiLeaks. Manning’s commutation was one of 209 that Obama made Tuesday; with the 330 from Thursday, his total number of commutations is now 1,715, more than any other president in history, according to the White House. Obama also issued 64 pardons this week.

Obama has granted dozens of pardons and commutations about once a month since August, and in December, he gave clemency to a record 231 federal inmates on a single day — a record that he broke on Tuesday and again on Thursday.

Leftists' arguments about Stone just collapsed.

Lying and withholding evidence on a matter that could (should) have resulted in the impeachment of the POTUS is ticky tac? Once again, you are astonishing.

Why do you bother making these absurd, disingenuous analogies?

If you had any facts to bolster you case you'd provide them. We both know you don't.

Stone was one commutation. Obama pardoned hundreds. The left snivels its brains out but the same Constitution which Hussein used is also the same Constitution which allowed Trump to pardon Roger Stone.

How many of the people the Obama pardoned bragged about "not flipping" on him first? How many had been convicted for crimes that could involve him?

Oh, but I forgot, his middle name was funny. That's way more important than rampant corruption, I guess.

If by "ticky tac process crimes" you mean "multiple felonies," then sure.

You seriously think Stone is innocent of these convictions? That he never lied to Congress or to the FBI? Really? No, no you don't. You are just trying to excuse multiple felonies.

Your point makes no sense. The criticism was never about the NUMBER of pardons. The criticism was with regard to him pardoning/commuting people for crimes directly related to his own campaign . . . one of whom bragged about "not flipping" on him.

Your "point" is a straw man.

And if it turns out that, as the SDNY claims, there's evidence showing that Trump directed Cohen's crimes, then surely you will advocate for the same "harsher" sentences for him. Right?

Of course my point makes no sense to a leftist. It makes their whining about Trump look as pathetic as it is.
