OK double down I don't care, meanwhile Disney having to pay just like the mom and pop down the road.

This change was done solely to target Disney.

You are arguing irrelevancy — have you been to Disney? It’s maintained better than any area of Florida could imagine. Just like the other special districts being able to maintain their properties to a higher standard.

Again, you would have a point if the legislature had just said we should have companies doing this — but that’s not what they said — they said we shouldn’t have Disney doing this because they spoke against the state.

Justifying fascism isn’t a good look.

Look, we are not going to agree so why don’t we just agree to disagree? (But the point here is obvious to anyone not biased)

@hawgsalot quoted this post which brought it to my attention. He dismissed it on the merits against one set of defendants. You also need to take the next step and show how they have standing to sue in federal court. The case Disney cited at the hearing explicitly stated they don't have a case.

It’s actually scheduled to save Disney money — they are just concerned about the red tape and failure of Florida to maintain the areas like Disney standard does.

    But ok

I do love how you just ignored the examples though.

“small government” cons never fail to surprise me.

Disney admitted in court that it "targeted" more than just Disney.

I've been to Disney many times. How well it is maintained has nothing to do with things like creating their own building codes. How clean something is or how well landscaped it is has nothing to do with building codes, environmental regulations, zoning, etc. This change in law has nothing to do with how well "maintained" they can keep their properties or to what standard they will choose to maintain them. There's no correlation whatsoever and I can't fathom why you think it's relevant.

Simple question for you to dodge:

Why did the legislature enact this new provision?

Some extra news. The primary concession Disney seems to have gotten was a couple less adversarial board members. Looks like Florida needed Disney's tourism revenue and don't want them to go bust. And Disney wanted to continue investing in Disney World. Prior to this agreement they were refusing to do any upgrades or work for fear of seeming weak on the negotiations. So in exchange for a couple DeSantis hand picked board members they're willing to invest and drop the lawsuits. However, if they still can't come to terms with the board they may continue their federal lawsuits. Looks like Disney learned their lesson and DeSantis being removed from the campaign trail has given both sides some much needed clarity.

I was wondering how all our house progressives would react. Defend evil corporations or defend evil republican politicians.

I guess Disney carries the progressive torch, so I should have figured this would be the stance.

Disney's legal arguments were pretty weak. And it wasn't like DeSantis was paying for it out of pocket. Disney effectively started making sovereign citizen style legal rants that had no basis in law.

The government sucks. Mammoth companies like Disney suck. Neither one is a victim.
