I missed Sir's explanation. That's what I thought. Anyone want to be my friend, go look up my name. P.M. me if you want to send me a friend request. We are adults. I see crap on my page and I ask a friend to tone it done including my kids. That's why I only have 2 out of 4 on my page.

I joined PF facebook because I love this site and don't figure it's dangerous like some who are ultra paranoid. Come on, your footprints are out there no matter what you do on the web now a days.

The set-up has already revealed one member's real name without her permission. Might not be a big deal to you... huge deal to me.

    Different strokes.

You've provided a link to the Forum Rules. I found an announcement sticky called FORUM UPDATES from the owner in 2008, but the last post there was July 2011.

Now that we've gone around the world with this topic and ended up right back where we started, please allow me to re-state my case.

The forum should provide members with information about the FB connection so nobody else has their personal info revealed unless they're OK with it. The information should be provided HERE, not on FB.

That's all this is about... but it's appearing more and more like nobody cares what the members think. Is this a campaign to run people off or what?

The hostility is rather puzzling. Are we not allowed to express our opinions without being attacked by the mods?

    Fact is this:

If you do anything on Facebook, whether it's a "like", a comment, etc it's traceable back to you.

Facebook has all kinds of privacy issues.

Be weary of social network sites like Facebook. I don't think there is a good reason to link to Facebook from here.

Nothing may ever come from it, but the door has now been opened up for issues down the road b/c we can't control what Facebook is gonna do in the future. How they will operate privacy standards and such.

Best way to not cause unwanted problems down the road, is to not open doors of control to unknown entities that are constantly changing privacy standards. It's not just Facebook changing standards either, it's your government as well.

Just my 2 cents, right or wrong, for what it's worth.

I still take issue with the fact for 10 months we have had problems on this site and nothing has ever been explained about them. Unless I missed it. Then suddenly we are linked to facebook with really no explanation.

Need a better PR campaign here.

Well, gee thanks for the cautionary note. I'll let the other 800 million members of Facebook know.

Facebook Connect is nothing more than a link. The Political Forums Facebook Page is nothing more than a page on Facebook. If you're a member of one, it doesn't mean you're a member of another.

The "set-up" didn't reveal anyones name. A person revealed someones name.

If you don't join Facebook, or if even if you do, but you don't "Like" the PF Facebook your real identity will not be exposed.

    How simple is that?

Maybe they need to start charging a monthly fee to handle all these demands you guys have for the site.

Geez...give a guy a FREE membership to a website, and he starts acting like he owns the place, and deserves all manner of privileges.

It's funny. People blow their own cover by their own stupidity, and they blame it on the forum, as if anybody forced them to post messages on the facebook page under their real name.

It takes all kinds, I suppose.

The "information" here is not provided on FB. Thats the whole thing. There are links to this site, that is all. There is no private information being shared. There are links to this site all over the place. On twitter, news sites, and other fourms. The site is being fixed, upgraded, and marketed more. A lot of members (rightfully) complained a lot about the technical problems with the site and now that those are being hammered out have moved on to something new. I am not being hostile. I am frustrated because the only conclusion I can come up with about the complaints is that those complaining have no idea what a facebook fan page is.

This is all much ado about nothing.

There is simply a fan page. If you don’t like it, then don’t click on the like on the fan page.

    Simple really. AMAZINGLY simple really.

If you are worried about privacy, even if its the privacy of a screen name, google is your friend/enemy.
I just googled Hillbilly, and know which other forum(s) he posts on, can read his posts.
The cat's out of the bag folks. We all are on the www, and anyone with a combination of common sense and computer literacy can find you.
Advertizing on FB doesn't mean anything else but a link to this forum.

Just found an entire member's list to another forum by googling one member's name, and found plenty of her posts alongside it.
That's all that happens on FB.
I'd be more worried about FB privacy, than a link which can be found all over the www.

The only difference is... most people use their REAL NAMES on FB. Did you google Hillbilly's real name?

Maybe your membership's FREE, some of us pay our own way here. The only question remaining is if we'll continue to pay our way.

I stumbled across a post the owner made last week and I'm content to wait until the upgrades are finished to judge the results. I'd suggest everybody else do the same... AND STAY AWAY FROM FACEBOOK.

    That's my :twocents:

I bet if no one posts anything on the PF Facebook page no one will ever know who you are.

    I bet.

So can you see your real name on the PF page, or does the link come back here to your screen name?
From what I am told, its links to PF and the most frequented threads.
I don't have an account, so I'm not privy to all that info.

If you post on PF's FB AND use your real name for your personal facebook acct, your real name will be revealed to anyone reading the PF FB wall.

Again, it might not be a big deal to some folks, but most of us prefer not to have our screen names associated with our real names on the internet.

Stay safe and don't open a FB account using your real name. Then you don't have anything to worry about. For those of us who already have a FB account under our real names and don't want that info tied to our membership at PF, we should just stay away from PF's FB page

Ok, that actually would warrant a disclaimer.
