Sorry to disappoint you but it was the Aussies that started the bragging. Try to keep up.

Ah, the argument of moral equivalency. A cheap way to make excuses for your own behavior. Ok, you are as bad as Americans. Point made.

Hmm, others brag and I make a bet based on their bragging yet you focus not on the braggarts but the one who makes the bet.

Brag: A pompous or boastful statement.

Bet: A choice made by consideration of probabilities.

Funny how Aussies bash us Americans, yet they have to meddle neck deep in our politics and way of life. They certainly have their opinions.

I certainly have nothing against Australia and would love to visit someday. Aussies are kind of like Texans. They are very proud of their history because there is so little of it. That is not really fair, their history in many ways parallels Americas with the English establishing colonies. They treated the native population much the same:
They too are a bit arrogant in their opinion of themselves. In many ways they are much the same as Americans other than the fact that America is much less English only in origin. One thing they lack are illegal Mexican immigrants so are probably pretty short on Mexican cooks.

We had an incident here in Australia whereby a psychopath shot a group of people in Tasmania, and the whole of Australia turned into a bunch of paranoid frightened little school girls, and the gun buyback scheme was implemented.

This was a perfect opportunity for the Government to disarm the Australian population - and it worked perfectly.

I agree, there has never been any solid links between the gun buyback scheme and the drop in crim rates. Nearly every second night on TV you always hear of someone here in Australia being killed using a gun, or someone using a gun for another criminal purpose.

The same argument can be used with all the money being spend on the anti-terrorism initiatives, but you never hear how these initiatives have “actually” stopped any terrorist attacks. LOL LOL

Just sneaky politicians playing on peoples fears to disarm them and put them more under the Government thumb.

You can walk up to someone’s door and shoot them, but you can also walk up to the same door and stab them. If someone is intent on harming or killing another person and they don’t have access to a gun, then they will use another method regardless.

We just have a situation right now whereby backward, dumb-asre Australians believe anything & everything they are told by their politicians.

Thankfully, some individuals in the US are not as blinded by their politicians verbal rhetoric as the “headless chickens” here in Australia are.

Australian politicians have just sold their State of Queensland to the Chinese Government; so that will give you some insight into the very small intellect of Australian politicians and the Australian people who allowed it to happen. You would get more intelligence from an intellectually disable school than from the majority of Australians - they are more concerned with gambling on two flies crawling up a wall then their country being sold. LOL LOL

Anti-gunners like to believe that gun control measures are doing some good. They will eat up the propoganda. Good post.

There never was a gun problem in Australia and consequently there is no basis for gun control. Blaming guns for madmen shooting people is like a tradesman blaming his tools for poor work. It is not the fault of the tool. Howard used the slippery, slimy slogan that gun control would make Australia safer but not once did he or any of the gutless state politicians who implemented the laws explain just how 'safer' was going to be measured. Another insult from these ********s was the oft repeated statement, "we think the community overwhelmingly wants tougher control over guns" (or something to that effect) completely ignoring the fact that these proposed laws at the time gave rise to the most wide spread street demonstrations and rallies (against the proposed laws) that Australia has ever seen. In every city and almost every town in the country there was a demonstration or rally against these laws. It was absolutely unprecedented but these bastards just ignored it because they are just a bunch of gutless political party zombies, doing whatever they are told by their party bosses without question and to hell with whatever their constituents my want. We were rail-roaded by these bastards and Labor in particular deserted the Australian people by failing utterly to do their job as the opposition in both State and Federal parliments.

I never saw any rallies of this kind, not in my city anyway,, but I did see rallies for tighter gun control.

Can't help it if you don't watch or listen to the news. In the city nearest where I live (a major regional centre) I attended a rally against these laws with about 1,000 other people. I saw on the news a rally in the same city in support of tougher gun laws that was attended by about 20 people including their children and dogs!
There is no basis for introducing tougher gun laws, there never was a 'gun problem'.

It only became a gun problem when Barry Unsworth said "there will be no gun control laws until there's a massacre in Tasmania"
    Hhmmmm....

and what regional centre was that, Moree, Bourke, Mt Isa, Tamworth? Sounds like Tamworth, I was living there at the time and it was the same there, they however are not representative of the majority of Australians

That ranking refers only to the equal distribution of healthcare, not to the actual quality. The black and illegals here who don't work are what really drag it down.

So all the blacks don't work and all whites do. I think it is people like you that are the problem. Thanks for the dislike too, from someone who thinks like you do it's a compliment.

Unemployment rate by race in the USA:

    White - 7.4%
    Black - 14.1%
    Hispanic or Latino - 10.3%

Simple truth. Australia could have healthcare on par with that of African witch doctors, but if everyone was "equally miserable", it would be ranked higher on that scale.

South Australia and Texas are twinned, as are their capitals - Adelaide and Austin; and many cities and towns - the commonality is 1836. But I think that might be it....but we did pinch the land from the indigenous folks, like Texas took itself out of the sphere of influence of Mexico....and then got rid of its indigenous people. South Australia didn't go as far as Texas in that.

It was a disgraceful, panicked and generally stupid, stupid, stupid response.
