I wish us both the best in our quest for self-betterment.

Japan was prepared to surrender, and Ike (and Einstein) opposed the use of the bomb.

First of all, we do not know that. We had just fought bloody battles for Iwo Jima and Okinawa. The Japanese had no intentions of surrendering. For decades, some Japanese soldiers refused to believe they had lost.

Whether that is true or not, it makes no difference. That is certainly not what was believed at the time. It was thought the Japanese would have fight on for years with more casualties on both sides. The Japanese soldier was taught that it was cowardly to surrender. Allied forces who surrendered were badly treated because the Japanese believed they did not deserve humane treatment.

Hind sight is so wonderful, even when it is wrong.

Ike was doing battle in another hemisphere with a somewhat more humane adversary.

I did, it's at a minimum 250 to 1 in favor of using the bomb.

Back in the 70s company called SPI - Strategic Publications, Inc. made a historically accurate simulation of the invasion of Japan that, thank God, never happened. We played it for about two hours put it up and never played it again. We were on day ten and the US casualty track was around 350k dead, Japan's was in the millions with no end in sight. It ceases to be fun after you've successfully fended off your third massive banzai charge from a unit consisting almost entirely of women and children armed with spears and a few grenades just to make it intereresting.

The game was based on Japanese and American records from the period. It just

Then they should have done so. We weren't stopping them.

In fact, we would have been delighted to accept their early surrender.

Not going to war is a good way for your country to end up conquered and enslaved (or worse).

    Worked hard???

No they didn't. They didn't work very hard at all to oppose the A-bombs.

If any nation wishes to have a nuclear war with the US, the US military is ready and willing to annihilate them.

Irrelevant; Ike opposed the use of the bomb in the Pacific - were you not clear on that?

Irrelevant and bizarre - Japan was prepared to surrender.

    Also, dropping bombs on people?

    It's wrong.

They were trying, but we wanted to bomb them. We were actually.

    Profoundly false.

    Irrelevant.

    Very.

Profoundly false. Nice job of moving the goal posts; they opposed this use.

Armageddon sounds good to you? To each their own I suppose; I'm going with "dropping bombs on people is wrong."

Incredible that such madness persists on this topic...

This the same Jesus whose dad told the Jews to wipe out the Canaanites for the crime of human sacrifice, and for murdering their own children by burning them alive.

"In the final year of World War II, the Allies prepared for a costly invasion of the Japanese mainland. This undertaking was preceded by a conventional and firebombing campaign which devastated 67 Japanese cities. The war in Europe had concluded when Germany signed its instrument of surrender on May 8, 1945, and the Allies turned their full attention to the Pacific theater. The Allies called for the unconditional surrender of the Imperial Japanese armed forces in the Potsdam Declaration on July 26, 1945, the alternative being "prompt and utter destruction." Japan ignored the ultimatum and the war continued."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atomic_bombings_of_Hiroshima_and_Nagasaki#:~:text=Japan surrendered to the Allies on August 15,,Tokyo Bay, which effectively ended World War II.

How many more Allied deaths do you think we should have suffered from an enemy who started the war? Since members of my immediate family were slated to go to Japan, I am glad they dropped the bombs. The war did not end until the Emperor said it was over. The Japanese would have continued until he spoke up.

You think Jesus is pro-bombing people? We'll have to agree to disagree. :)

    Japan: Prepared to surrender

The US: REALLY wanted to drop BIG bombs on them

Japan: Surrendered on the terms they wanted pre-bomb AFTER the bombs dropped

    Jesus: VERY unhappy about it

What I am clear on is that he fought a more civilized enemy, if you could call the German's civilized. It wasn't his people being brutalized in Japanese POW camps and who participated in the Bataan Death March.

By the way, MacArthur whose people were brutalized by the Japanese and whose people participated in the Bataan Death March, did favor dropping the bombs. It was his theater, up close and personal. Not that I am a fan of MacArthur.

You keep repeating that, but they provided no evidence of it. But be my guest. Show your evidence.
