Know what today is Doombug? The ten year anniversary of the start of marriage equality. If this does not answer your question, it just means that you don't want an answer:

That is just another silly article discussing gay marriage....geez, you or anyone else has yet to post anything of substance. Sorry if you do not like that I don't accept your propaganda. I am skeptical of society accepting homosexuality in any way. I don't see any reason to do so. Many people still see it as immoral yet they are willing to support gay marriage just to stop the whining. I say those who support homosexuality have yet to make a valid argument for it. You lose again.

I say that those bigots who promote discrimination against homosexuals have yet to make a valid argument in defense of such discrimination. It isn't right to discriminate against African Americans, it isn't right to discriminate against Jews, and it isn't right to discriminate against homosexuals.

I say that no argument would ever convince you.

So prove me wrong: What reasonable evidence would convince you?

Using the word "marriage equality" doesn't explain why gay marriage should be legalized.

Well in this case, 'marriage equality' explains that 10 years ago, there was the start of allowing gay couples to have the same rights and responsibilities for marriage as my wife and I enjoy.

Nice Sam. Do you have any actual thoughts of your own, or is all that you can do is post a link, and quote the bible? Do you think that everyone should live by the bible?

Actually it explains it all and very well. Put down the bible and read the constitution! Equal protection under the law. This is not a theocracy Can you get that?

Why do you NOT support changing the definition of marriage? Can you formulate an argument based on facts and logic without resorting to religion and other nonsense ?

The definition of marriage has been changed hundreds of times since its inception:
    The Church takes over:
    Love enters the picture:
    Property no more:
    Gay marriage in ancient history:
Not to mention adding divorce - which was once a punishable and removing multiple wives in western culture.

Which version should we adhere to since we are so paralyzed by "tradition".
The anti-gays have NO LOGICAL ARGUMENT.

I am not against equal rights/civil unions. Civil unions are a compromise idea to this very controversial issue. Civil unions give gay couples equal rights, without the controversy of using the term "marriage".

They had that same idea back in the late 1890s to early 1950s America when segregation was still in effect. "Separate but equal." they said. Well guess what? The federal government decided "Separate but equal." wasn't really equal at all.

    http://americanhistory.si.edu/brown/history/1-segregated/separate-but-equal.html

Don't worry though Sam, much like segregation, once it has been removed for so many years and in effect for such a long time that whole 'controversy' thing goes away eventually. So once gay men and women are legally allowed to marry that whole 'controversy' will slowly start to disappear as this will become an accepted norm in society. Nobody said it will be easy to overcome, but we'll get there. ;)

Why are you comparing separate but equal schools, with civil unions? Unlike blacks during the 60s, gay couples are not segregated today.

You want to segregate their rights by giving them only civil unions and not marriage.

Sure it's controversial, but so was segregation. We do not deliver inequality just because some people are uncomfortable with it or find it controversial.

Strawman argument. I do not support segregating gay people. You are misrepresenting my position.

    How is that a strawman?

You blatantly stated you want them to only have civil unions and not marriages. How is that not a segregation of rights?

    seg·re·ga·tion
    ˌsegriˈgāSHən/Submit
    noun
the action or state of setting someone or something apart from other people or things or being set apart.

1-Yes, I did say that. But it's a straw man because you exaggerated what I said, by comparing it with segregation.

2-I don't think it's wrong if gay couples get civil union rights. However, I do think it's wrong if they have the status of "marriage". Regardless of my personal beliefs or your beliefs, civil unions are a compromise to a very controversial issue.

Making a comparison does not automatically equate to a strawman argument.

So you want them to remain separate correct? If your answer is yes then that is segregation.

It's not segregation. I'm not saying that gays should have their own restaurants or separate schools. During the 60s, blacks were ostracized as separate members of society, because they had separate restaurants/schools, etc. Do any religious conservatives support segregating gays, which is a very high level of discrimination? Nope. Comparing religious people against gay marriage, with racist whites against desegregation, IS a strawman.

I am just calling it like I see it. You want to keep a certain group of people separate, or rather segregated, when it comes to marriage, for what real reason I am not sure of.

Also what does religion have to do with it?

Yes, but it's not the same thing as 1960s segregation.

Any separation of one group of people from another is segregation.

Anyways, the only reason I mentioned the 1890s-1950s segregation was to highlight the fact that controversy is not a good enough reason to deny people their legal rights under the law. So do you have another real reason for denying gay men and women the right to marry each other under the law?
