That is it? Nothing to actually contribute? Just insult for somebody who can not defend themselves?

So far all you have done is drop the old one liners, and answered nothing. been found lacking in the debate issue.

And I thought you wanted to debate these things, or is that just another red herring?

Gary, as you & I know, Gina Rinehart NEVER said anything remotely like "If you earn more than $2 a day you are stealing from me". Some people will never let the truth get in the way of a good old crank. All they need, is imagination, a complete detatchment from reality, and a bucket of hand cream.

I think the correct terminology for this is Union Stooginess. Twist the truth to suit ones own agenda.

Imagine trying to do that in the real world, in business, where you have to deal with reality.

Everyone, and even the OP will agree with you. This is the thing though, he was making a tongue in cheek point......I mean surely!! I thought you guys would have picked this up and what i was alluding to regarding context. From this point he is obviously saying it is quite cheeky of her to expect everyone else to decrease wages when she is on the verge of hitting the 100 billion mark. Too literal guys, way too literal, you have to learn to read between the lines.

TV the way I saw it was she was actually trying to say that it is near on impossible to compete with these other nations when their wages are so low. She then used the Africans as her example. Then we have other taxes imposed and we are so far uncompetitive that our industry is under great threat. She has terrible trouble expressing her point of view and opens herself up to misinterpretation. However I am sure she wouldn't turn down paying wages of $2 a day, however this was not her point....... This time !

Having been in China for a couple of weeks at a trade and economics convention, I can tell you that our great Asian partners are looking at better value resources from elsewhere. We have always been more expensive on our resources but the cost of transportation and storage in other areas has balanced things out somewhat. Now, however, we are some ways more expensive again and there seems better value out there and our competitors are vying hard for the Chinese business.

I feel unfortunately that our good thing is about to end. Hard days ahead I'm afraid. Spiralling domestic costs to households and greater job competition mixed with greater costs on business spells one thing...... Economic contraction.

It is disgusting that she said African miners "want to work" for $2 a day while dozens of South African miners were being killed by police while striking for higher wages.

The Australian economy is struggling partly because of the hugely inflated iron ore prices driving up the Australian dollar and squeezing out Australian manufacturing.

All that fat woman is doing is exploiting our nation's natural resources for personal gain, she has no right to demand to pay less taxes. Frankly she should be god (*)(*)(*)(*) grateful that she is allowed to profit from our public resources at all, let alone the fact that it's made her the richest woman in the world.

Maybe if mining companies did actually invest in Africa, and pay them acceptable wages, then we wouldn't need to spend billions in aid over there. And the workers wouldn't strike over appalling wages and conditions, and their government wouldn't send in the police and kill them.

But no, all Gina is interested in doing is maximizing her personal wealth, and she doesn't give a crap about anything else.

It's disgusting, she is disgusting and she can shove her $30 billion up her fat arse.

She couldn't even bring herself to part with a few thousand dollars to employ some aussies who can edit a film properly ffs.

I feel sorry for her family.

Unfortunately I agree. This has been stated throughout this forum for sometime now. But the Labor drones have ignored it. The government have placed all their faith into the resource sector for that quick cash grab. They have ignored the other areas of the economy, and still continue to attempt to bleed the resource sector without thought of consequence. Should it collapse? What is the Australian government going to base the economy on? There could be great contraction from their short sighted view of the Australian economy.

Hear hear......I mean it is that simply! The American liberals speak about an American company who dropped their profit margins to ensure they could employ their loyal workers. This is all Gina has to do!

I'd like to read this story. Sounds interesting. Could you please provide details ?

Americans are far more nationalistic than we are, and take more pride in their countries name and flag. Probably one of the few things I admire about about them as a nation.

Henry Ford (July 30, 1863 – April 7, 1947) was an American industrialist, the founder of the Ford Motor Company, and sponsor of the development of the assembly line technique of mass production. Although Ford did not invent the automobile, he developed and manufactured the first automobile that many middle class Americans could afford to buy. His introduction of the Model T automobile revolutionized transportation and American industry. As owner of the Ford Motor Company, he became one of the richest and best-known people in the world.

He is credited with "Fordism": mass production of inexpensive goods coupled with high wages for workers.

I firmly believe that the answer lies somewhere in the last few replies. We heard of an American company lowering it's profit margin to pay better wages. Then we are told the story of "Gordian".

A few large companies and banks presently have shown that not only are they willing to put profit ahead of both staff and customers, but reward themselves with obscene pay rises.

Increased affluence of the working and lower middle class is critical, as they make up the majority of consumers.

Thanks TV for the link. There seems to be a movement toward that way of thinking in small to medium business. I was in the USA last year on one of my many trade trips. We specifically were looking at their manufacturing sector, not really my expertise. I was there to interview staff and also study the demographics within the industry and the cities and towns that were associated with it. The one thing the Yanks have that we Aussies don't seem to, is national pride which filters down to their communities. They impressed me in this area. In one place I interviewed 500 workers and every single one of them said they would buy American, even though it may be dearer, as this would insure that they and their children would have some chance of employment into the future. When I did a similar study in Australia only about 40% said this was a thought.

I live in a relatively small place and run a business here. Yes the computer age has allowed me to live somewhere I want while pursuing other business interests elsewhere. I have been fortunate. I will however tell you a story that has happened to me in my town.

Their was a school who unfortunately hit the wall financially, a private school steeped in history. They needed a lot of money to keep the doors open. The community of business people got together to find away of financially bailing them out. This was in part due to the fact a lot of these business men were old students, I not one of them. In short most of the money was found other than around $30k. It seemed lost. I had already put in $lots. Our company decided to put this shortfall in as the schools in this area were intregal in our business. Some months later it came to my attention that after everything I had done for this school they were getting product from my competitor in the city. I was gutted ! I had a meeting with their board regarding the issue. I was told that they could get it $5 cheaper elsewhere....... $5 for Christs sake ! I asked the smartarses what their freight was and after some digging through papers came an incredible reply. The freight per item was $15. This made the product $10 more expensive. I was floored by their stupidity, but it was indicative of our national psyche.

in the USA the Ginas and Clives, and their like are held in great esteem as they are the employers, and have the ability to employ lots of people. They are assisted greatly by the government because of this. Donald trump said once that he would not ever do business in Australia, because they hate my kind. Our psyche of boss and employer versus worker is so entrenched input national being that being nationalistic like the USA, does not come easily to us.

I have said it before...... We are our own worst enemies.
