He does not have the right to possess, let alone render judgment, on what constitutes abuse. That's Congress's job to provide over site. We are a representative republic and that's part of the job of the people we elect to both houses of Congress. That's why I vote. I don't extend that authority to a foreign national, no matter how much he disagrees with my government. He, and anyone who supports him, can go f*ck themselves. If he doesn't like the activities of my country's government, then it's his responsibility to take it up with his country's government, vis-a-vie their foreign policy. Not take information stolen from my country, and publish it on a web site maintained on a foreign server.

And you obtained the knowledge to come up with that judgment how?

Prosecutors also work uphill to get to the top of that chain. I did not say that Assange was innocent.

British socialists are protesting and demanding that Assange be released. See youtube's Guardian channel showing live protests though much of the rally has dissipated now:

Interestingly, I was just at a right wing channel on youtube and it was American right wingers who were adamantly defending JA.

I have heard the claim that there might have been names in the information stolen. I don't know if these names were released and never heard anything about them getting killed.

Even if this were true - this would be Manning's/Snowden's fault and not Assange. Once information is "out there" its "out there".

Precisely. How many crimes has the U.S. committed (that we know of) and how many of them were covered up prior to finding out? All of them. And how many were made "dark" by shelving proof as "classified information". All of it.

Not surprised at our country's right-wingers, since Assange published emails stolen from Hillary Clinton, and used t hurt her presidential campaign.

Russia and Marxist leftists oppose extradition and release from asylum.

By contrast, American right wingers join them as shown on YT.

I am not surprised as well because Assange is an avowed Jew hater quoted in numerous sources as saying a "Jewish conspiracy" rules the world. As we all know, it is the far right that is antisemitic though they always project their bigotry unto patriots on this forum.

I would also claim that once information has breached the firewall - has been stolen and released - it is no longer "Secret".

For example - if some "top secret"/classified information - say the name of some informant - is on the "dark web" - and I post this name on social media - am I guilty of a crime ?

I know. I am just trying to be optimistic. Julian Assange has a place in my heart and I want the very best for him.

His lawyers are speaking. They say the danger of this is that any journalist providing honest information about what the US is up to anywhere in the world will be liable to arrest and punishment in the US. It is the US ending free speech for journalists.

The British lawyer who is trying to get him extradited says it looks like the argument will be whether he is a journalist or not. The charges are less than were expected and cannot amount to more than 5 years and according to this lawyer the US cannot get him extradited on these and then add more charges once they get him to the US.

Nice how the Russians didn't miss the opportunity to get a dig in. I wonder how Snowden is doing?

As for Assange's future, I'm sure Trump will pardon him. Trump loves WikiLeaks.

The rape allegations have nothing to do with US extradition. This is a red herring in this respect.

I'd have a higher regard for him if his many leaks had been more fair and balanced, and not simply aimed at attacking and destabilizing us in particular with obvious Russian collusion.

Its a he said, she said. Regardless - this has nothing to do with US extradition so it is a red herring.

I can't say I'm surprised. The right-wing is the Trump-wing now, and Trump loves WikiLeaks. He said so.

Facts. It is a matter of record. Of course, if you can show me where I am wrong .... Be my guest.

Why not look at it from a sensible standpoint and see if your fundamental argument holds water. You remember the helicopter footage of U.S. murdering innocent Irakis, yes? It was covered up, yes? So how do we know about it? Wikileaks? Yes. And then there was the illegal invasion of Irak, the torture at Abu Graib and Guantanamo. How did we find out about that, huh?

So all of that BS you wrote about soldiers wanting to serve in elite forces and how whistleblowers jeopardize their lives and all of that ....... huh? I suggest that you write to the U.S. government and ask them to start waging honest war. That is where your efforts ought to be spent. Like they say in the U.S. "If you can't do the time, don't do the crime". So write to Washington and tell them to quit doing the crime. And guess what: Whistleblowers will have nothing to rat about.

No. I look forward to his standing trial in the US over other crimes, though. Shame he couldn't have been extradited while Mueller's investigation was still on-going.
