BTW, seems to be fine tonight. But the last two days have been pretty lousy, off & on. I always think of posting the problem on this thread when it's happening, but by the time I get a page to load, I forget about it.

THERE IS A BIG PROBLEM WITH THE SITE'S PERFORMANCE AND IT HASN'T BEEN FIXED YET.

(sorry for yelling... it's just so irritating sometimes!)

Yes, we have discussed this before. It was somewhat fixed, but the slowness and locking is creeping back in. When I try to edit something sometimes the site locks and then the silly 20 min time limit expires, forcing me, unless I ask a moderator to delete my unedited post and post the edited version, which at times one moderator, a guy, refused to do even that*. There are times I lose the entire piece because I have to reboot the computer to unlock it. We all know how much that cheers us up!

All that said I do love this place, and most of the mods, and plan of sending another modest donation. I am sure that the staff or the web guy will get our site running faster.

    * However to the defense of the other mods they have helped me quickly and efficiently many times. I simply stopped asking the man Mod in question for assistance.

I have a good system with much anti virus and anti spyware, much memory etc. I also have a notebook. One is on a charter cable modem the other on an satellite modem. The problem arises on both. I will say the problem is does not happen as frequently as when it was at its worse. Maybe its the network God or Satan, who knows? One thing I have began to do is open three or four windows two in Firefox two in IE. I if its the site all lock up and I get a data base error message. Hmmm'

lately it has been running fast during the graveyard shift, it seems to have a bit of problems when it is crowded in the mornings or late afternoon when everyone is either logging on at work or after work

but overall it is going good for a free membership site.

Took 4 minutes to open this thread. 2 minutes to open this reply box.

Been logged on less than an hour and gotten 2 DB errors.

    Anybody care?

Jeez guys. It's a web forum. It goes down from time to time. It's not the end of the world. Go watch a movie or something. Come back later. Your precious political threads will still be here when you get back. Getting mad about it is just silly.

It's only free for those of you who don't donate, dear. The rest of us have a right to complain because we gave in response to the title of this thread... which appears on the top of the homepage KEEP OUR SITE RUNNING FAST!

We gave... and it's not. I gave again after giving the first time only to have one of my fav features deleted. I griped about that too... to no avail.

So here I am again... and probably still to no avail. But donations are at 28% with 8 days to go. If anybody cares why... this is why. Fix the friggin site, already.

Another free-rider piping in. My but you libs have low standards.

You're right... for living off other people's money, it's not bad. You have no right to complain.

agreed thanks for helping to keep it free for the rest of us, hope this problem will be fixed for you guys

if it becomes paid membership my budget from welfare would not allow me to participate here any longer.

it has been a bit slow recently, this is most likely due to the holidays and the crowd from everyone on vacation from work. maybe a bigger server will help but that is very expensive

Neither do you. You chose to donate. You weren't forced to. And donation doesn't give you any extra rights.

To me there are better sites with more features more varied topics and more diverse communities. They're free. Make all their money in ads and don't request a dime from it's community.

I'm not sure why anyone would donate. But that's just me.

I prefer to pay my fair share. But then again, I'm not a liberal.

Hi SMW. Have you run a computer check? I will say a DB error is usally something tha PF owns! Anyway about the check, I have an excellent virus free and freeware called advanced care 4 (I would be happy to give you a link addy). I haven’t tried nor do I want the new version. However it defrags your disk and cleans your reg, well it does five or six cleaning things. I also have to reset my computers access and defaults every time I log on. Sometimes IE changes the default browser back to itself when I originally had default set to firebox. Netscape does the same thing! I don’t know if any of this stuff is on your end or if you have already tried those things. I have to say that PF is a bit slower in all areas, posting etc that other forums using the same format. However even I have had issues like you are experiencing it they rarely have happened in the last oh about three weeks. These days its fast enough to keep me from screaming hurry up, like I do at the microwave.

And as our other member said it is a free site. I love most of the mods and the fairness that the entire site displays. Actually its been my favorite place on the web for a year! God bless ~

I agree it's a great site, Rev A. And thx for the offer, but I've got plenty of virus protection on multiple computers... and I get the same site performance on all of 'em. Although you're right about some users not seeming to experience the same problems... there are many of us who do.

It's running fine tonight. Hopefully they found a loose screw and it won't ever happen again. :-D

just got this message tonight, don't know if this has something to do with speed or something else from the site.

Interesting... I've never seen that one. If we're lucky, it'll mean something to 'The Administrator.'

I haven't had that message here before, but I have seen it on various other forums. It doesn't last very long - usually.

For whatever it's worth , I was as frustrated with all the PF snafus as anyone else , data base errors and slow loading , spend time writting a post / PM / VM , only to see it disappear into pflala land and be lost ... very frustrating .

2 weeks ago , my 10yr old GateWay Notebook stopped working .

I bought a new LapTop , and I've not had any trouble at all , none , zilch.

Maybe , just saying , maybe part of the problems might be a worn out PC . :pc:

I'd never have said that 3 weeks ago , but after seeing the difference between the two , I'll have to say that is what helped me .

:xmassanta: Santa will bring ya one , the elves are making 'em right now. :-D

Although I have noticed the same thing since I bought my laptop, I am not sure that might be the problem.
If the forum is slow all the time, clean out the crap you have on the computer and see what happens. It might make a difference, but then again, it might not...

yep , I tried everything , disc clean-up , defragmenter , www tools , it helped some , but I was using FireFox as a browser , and when Yahoo bought 'em , ya had to download a new version of Mozilla FireFox , and that's when I started having my biggest trouble with PF .

Maybe someone else may have had the same trouble .

I switched to Firefox from Internet Explorer and it worked brilliantly at first. Then I had problems and now, on my laptop, I have IE because I can't figure out how to use the FF on it. So far its been okay. It might be the browser people use..who knows?

Any post that took a lot of research should be copied before submitting.
In case of database errors, it can be pasted after the error has resolved itself.
It won't change what is happening, but at least all the work isn't lost.
    I hope this helps.:sun:

Well, so far we've been advised to (1) buy new computers (2) change web browers (3) clean out our cookies (4) copy our posts in case we lose 'em (5) have patience because the problem's being worked on.

I'm telling you, folks... the issue is not on our end, it's the site.

The good news is... it's been running pretty fast for the last coupla days. I was only on for a few minutes yesterday but before I logged off... it got a little slow again, but didn't lock up.

    We'll see what today brings.

It's the Eurozone of forum tech.

I was locked out repeatedly yesterday and I'm not even online at the busy times when US hordes clutter the place up.
