This thread = a bunch of tech illiterates complaining to other tech illiterates.

    It's pretty humorous.

No this isn't a browser problem. It's happening on all browsers. It's just a server overload. It happens all the time in small forums like this and you're not going to be able to donate enough to fix it entirely. Especially since usually people who run these forums have other jobs to make ends meet.

If you find yourself unable to post and getting an error just hit the back button and go outside and get some fresh air for an hour. It'll still be here when you get back.

    Take a chill pill.

Another non-contributor chiming in. We understand, dear. It's good enough for free.

I didn't have that experience yesterday... but then again, I didn't log on until last night.

LOL @ Eurozone of forum tech. What's next, waving a magic wand and clicking our heels together 3 times?

You don't even understand what you're complaining about? What would you have them do differently?

Uh huh. So you have no clue.

Even the biggest of sites experience memory shortages. Sites that pay their sysadmins full living wages.

Some internet forum that relies completely on donations and a small amount of ad revenue is not going to be able to keep everything in perfect working order. I'm sure they are trying their best.

Nothing is more annoying than a person who complains without knowing what they're complaining about.

You're right about the problem being a server overload. However, I'm somewhat of a forum junky and have been on numerous boards over the years. They've ranged in size from about a dozen users to several thousand. This is the only board I've been on that has had these problems. My goal is to contribute monetarily when a week goes by without any problems. That hasn't happened yet, although I hope it does soon because there are a lot of interesting people here with varied backgrounds and opinions. It's a great place to learn new things.

Moving from Eurozone to the Bermuda Triangle...:omg::mrgreen:

There is something more annoying, btw. Why don't you ninja it as your avatar infers you might :chew: (had to remove about 3 expletives there to stay within the TOS).

No, they don't. Bet I've been on forums longer than you have and I've NEVER experienced one that locks up like this one does sometimes.

I couldn't care less what's causing it. I like to pop in and out during the day and when it takes 6 min to load a page, that's impossible. I'm happy you haven't experienced that problem, but if you look at threads in the section, you'll see LOTS of other people have been having problems.

Now run along and fix something else. Your lectures are falling on deaf ears here.

Is the site faster more often than it is slow? If it is fast more than 80% of the time, I'd say its not much to worry about. If it was slow every single time you were on, there'd be cause for concern.

Honestly, I'm not on as much as I used to be because it annoyed me. But it works more often than not when I am online. I notice that the busier it gets, the worse it seems to be and don't even attempt to be online at the peak times now.

site speed often depends on a number of factors, it is fast now as people are just getting ready to go to work. it will slow down around 9 am- 11 am after they clock in and sign on here as it will begin to burden the servers down.

then again after lunch at 2-4 pm and then after work from 6-9 pm, it is not a problem for me though as i don't work and am able to come on during off peak hours.

but could see how it is a problem for everyone else though, hope it will be fixed for them

I wonder if those of you who have the most database errors return to the site via EM notifications, or do you log out completely and then return by signing back in?
I have done both, and noticed that logging out and back in, reduces the numbers of errors greatly.

Perhaps try it, please, let us know if it makes a difference?

LOL, gotta love that logic. You should be in sales, Mak.

    (this post went r-e-a-l fast)

Can't help but picture somebody winding something up behind the scenes. Gets slow... then improves.

Site performance is an ongoing discussion between the moderators and site owner and there is on thing I've noticed. Rarely do I have problems or at least they are far less than what others report. I'm using a new laptop at home that doesn't have a lot of "junk" on it. I'm wondering if many of the problems members experience are computer related more than site related.

I'm no IT guru but if I'm not experiencing problems with a "new computer" that doesn't have many applications on it can the applications running in the background on many computers be contributing to the problems?

    Short answer is no, Shiva.

Although it is conceivable that far too many apps could cause computer issues, it would not be "site" specific.

I suspect the issues mentioned here, are site server related. Perhaps as the forum has grown, it's time to consider a hardware upgrade for the site's server.

*additional note... I connect/post using a clean fast PC, and from reading a few post in this thread, can easily correlate the specific times I experience issues, with that of others.*

I have a "new laptop" at home with nothing on it while my work computer is full of other stuff. No difference in the two... when the site's slow, it's slow, regardless.

Guess I don't understand an 'ongoing discussion' about site performance. Does that mean you get together everytime it goes down and wonder what happened?

So far the only constructive critism was "buy a new server"

Of course that's the solution to all memory overload problems. Unfortunately servers cost a lot of money.

So the main option is to optimize the code itself. Find out where you can decrease the unnecessary amount of calls to the database.

This is mostly a shot in the dark and requires a lot of reading, learning and understanding even for experienced coders.

I am sure these guys are doing their best. No programmer likes seeing their creations give errors.

But constantly whining about it doesn't get it fixed any faster. Especially if you have nothing constructive to say.
