Carrying a gun is use. Lots of people carry. Having one handy for home protection is use and almost all that have one have it for that use.

Having something available for use is not the same as using it, unless you want to claim that it's nothing more than a security blanket.

You evidently don't understand what use means.

That's funny. Would you agree with this definition?
"take, hold, or deploy (something) as a means of accomplishing or achieving something; employ."

If you're carrying a firearm, the only function it is actively accomplishing is that of a security blanket for the insecure and fearful. You are only "using" it for any other purpose once you actually unholster it for that other purpose.

I suggest you don't carry then since that is your idea of carry. I wouldn't want the fearful like you to carry.

Someone who doesn't fear criminals enough to require a constant security blanket is more "fearful" than those who do?
Conservative logic at it's finest. :drunk:

You can only judge by the filter of your own fears.

...said a liberal with no clue on the facts.

There are roughly 250,000,000 vehicles in the country. Vehicle-related death rate per 100,000 is about 11.7.

There are about 310,000,000 firearms in the country. Gun-related death rate per 100,000 is about 10.1.

There is significantly more guns than vehicles in the U.S.

I hope you know a lot of the times the CDC is payed off to report what the highest bidder wants. Would you like data that directly debunks the bull (*)(*)(*)(*) tale "You're 3x more likely to shoot your child when a gun in present in the house hold," because that is a lie.

And THAT is pure logical fallacy

There are more Shoe stores than MacDonald stores in the USA
The average level of obesity is rising
Therefore it is the lack of shoe stores that are at fault

You may have fewer deaths from guns (at the moment - it is set to overtake the vehicle related deaths this year or next) but a lot of those guns are stored in houses not doing anything - the road related deaths would diminish too if all the cars spent most of the time garage: roll:

...said a conservative who only cherry-picks facts.

So what? Given that "tools (whether they be guns or cars) don't kill people, people kill people", the only measure that counts is how much time people spend using any given tool and the number of fatalities resulting from use.
Are you seriously suggesting that firearms are used in the US more frequently than vehicles?

Except that nobody said guns cause killing...

If you want to salvage this silliness into an analogy, it might be viable to say people are more likely to avoid walks while barefoot, so shoes enable (not "cause") walking.

The fact remains that gun crime is on the decline, while gun ownership is on the rise.

    - - - Updated - - -

I don't know, but the fact is that crime is going down, even though gun ownership is up. More gun control = more crime. Less gun control = less crime. These are facts.

The fact that more guns were sold to Mod edit flounder,,2 gun owners who believed the "Obama's gonna take yur guns" sales pitch does not mean there was an increase in gun owners. Fail.

More gun control equals more crime? This would mean that the US has lower crime rates than every other developed country, which clearly is not the case. Fail.

What part of those links supplied any facts, as opposed to fearmongering over what might happen?

    Pathetic.

This clearly shows your negative view of gun ownership. There are more guns in the U.S. than ever before. The number of owners is immaterial.

Gun control is not the only factor when comparing crime statistics. The fact remains that areas in the U.S. with less restricitve gun laws, crime is lower.

Not necessarily of ownership, but certainly of the gullibility of some owners.

It certainly does make a difference whether one person owns ten guns or whether ten people own one apiece.

    Source for those "facts"?

Not to mention the ignorance of the gun-haters.

    Research John R. Lott.

So just what do you think the NRA should be doing? Sitting around teaching kids how to shoot with bolt action .22s and leave it at that?
You may not like them, but they are one of the last lines of defense of the shooting sports hobby.

    - - - Updated - - -

And yet you "fail" to see that Obama has left much of it up to the states run by his minions to do it for him. You are blind.

I think the NRA should be what it started out to be - a group for people interested in guns and not the advertising arm of the armaments industry
