Glad you agree with me - that it is the advertising arm of the armament industry

I have no problem with either...they are doing a fair job of getting laws passed at local and state levels that are all about the 2A and citizens. If that 4 percent helps Viola!

    Curb the name-calling, junior.

Do you not read the news? Obama has campaigned all over the US for more controls on guns. While a professor at the University of Chicago he told fellow professor John Lott that he didn't believe people should be even able to own guns. I don't now why any gun owner would ever vote for Obama.

The US has more minorities than other nations. 95%+ of murders and murder victims in NYC were black or Hispanic. And before you call me a racist, I'm Hispanic.

Perhaps you should get your gun phobia treated by professional counseling rather than trying to take away our constitutional rights.

And if it were a research paper with that much clear bias - would you still support the findings? The NRA actually supported gun control legislation before it sold its soul

Got a problem with the source - state it but personal attacks will be reported

Meanwhile there are plenty of other sources listing the corrupt actions of the NRA

They had to answer to their members so in turn had to support them.

I just reported the guy who called gun owners 'moronic'.

You link proves my point, it says since 2005 the gun industry has given between $20M and $52M to the NRA. Don't they know? Let's say it is $40M, divided by 8 years is $5M a year, the NRA annual income is $205M, making gun industry contributions about 2% of that figure.

The link also wonders how the NRA became defenders of 'assault weapons'. That phony terminology aside, the fact is millions of Americans use them for hunting and self-defense. Whether you like it or not, they are commonly used and owned weapons, and are rarely involved in crimes. An AR-15 is just as legitimate expression of the 2nd Amendment as the internet is to the right to free speech.

The NRA through it's Firearms Safety and Education Programs run in towns like mine for multile decades as Police, Fish and Game and Gun Manufacturers as I live in Massachusetts Smith and Wesson helped....the NRA by running these safety and educational firearm programs for adults and children of the age of 11 and up....

THE NRA IS RESPONSIBLE BY HELPING PROVIDE FIREARM EDUCATION OF SAVING MORE LIVES AND THE LIVES OF MORE CHILDREN AND TEENS AND ADULTS THAN ANY LAW OR WEAPONS LEGISLATION EVER PASSED!!

By the time I was 11 years old....actually earlier for me because I had a Military Dad and a..."CIVILIAN"...in the manner the quote denote...Mom...who both carried firearms....of knowing EVERYTHING THERE WAS TO KNOW about how to safely handle, unload and load, carry, fire and keep and clean Handguns, Shotguns, Rifles, Compound Bows, Recurve Bows, Flintlocks....and even KNIFE, DAGGER AND SWORD EDUCATION!!

This is what the NRA has done.

Now as far as Background Checks....I am all for them!!!

As far as a waiting period to purchase a weapon....we have COMUTERS now days that can link every State and Federal Data Base to determine whether a person trying to buy a weapon has a criminal record or has a restraining order.

HELL....we could even refuse to sell them a weaon until they paid their outstanding parking tickets or taxes....but there is NO REASON to refuse to legally sell a person a Gun and Ammo if the Computer shows they have never even been arrested.

As far as Automatic Weapons....NO...they should remain illegal.

As far as High Round Capacity semi-automatic weapons....anyone who wants to purchase a Banana Clip for their AK....is still going to be able to get one reguardless.

    Trigger Locks.....ABSOLUTELY IDIOTIC!!!

There are over 8,000 home invasions daily in North America. Having a gun for that eventuality is like wearing a seatbelt or having insurance - you hope you never have to use it but if you need one and don't have it and need it, it can dramatically change your life for the worse.

I prefer to do more than wait for the police to show up a half hour later to draw a chalk line around my body.

Should a dad giving a gun to his son have to do a background check? As far as gun shows with no background checks, very few guns bought there ever show up in a crime.

Well....if a boy or girls Dad or Mom owns firearms like mine did THE FIRST THING THEY DO IS TEACH YOU FIREARM SAFETY!!!

I was only 3 years and 10 moths old before I was tall enough to stand on a chair and reach my Dad's top shelf in his closet.

Now my Dad did not keep his Handgun there and neither did my Mom as they carried all day and locked them in a desk but if they had kept them there I might have wanted to play with them....but before that age at a ripe 3 years old my Dad and Mom took me shooting and showed me what a .45 could do to a target, paint can, small watermelon and a sheet of 1/4 inch steel.

    I GOT THE MESSAGE!!!

So...there is rarely problems with the misuse of firearms handed down from Father to Son.

Handguns must be registered....dependent upon State.

Kids who grab their Dad's AR-15 or AK-47 and start shooting up schools....well their parents sucked and those weapons should have been proerly secured.

And background checks shouldn't be needed in such cases.

No registration here in NM, thank goodness.

Most of those kids belong in a mental house, seriously.

Funny how those who want to take away our guns because of such shootings never want to crack down on Hollywood's constant depiction of gun misuse. Of course Hollywood gives too much money to liberal Democrats for that to ever happen. Talk about corruption.

I believe everyone should have a instant background check run...it is simple enough in this day and age and it could save lives.

Every organization lives or dies on advertising. Should the NHRA stop advertising speed parts?

The NRA is the oldest civil-rights organization in the country. Much of our freedom is because of the NRA.

I wonder, if we apply that theory posited by BB, should Field and Stream, Hunter Magazine, and other such magazines stop publishing? I think that her theory basically attacks all mainstream media. Again, these publications are mainly viewed by hunters and sportsmen. Both of these carry firearms advertising.
Personally, I am not now or ever have been a subscriber to either of these, and I have never been a member of the NRA.
So, my motives for owning come from outside of the sources some members attack. To claim that every gun owner is a direct result of these groups and publications is more of a shotgun approach to try and hit as many targets as they can while trying to tell us they are saving our lives.
I call bull(*)(*)(*)(*) on that statement.

I am a member of the NRA as well as a PROGRESSIVE.

When I read some members disparage the very existence of concept of a Progressive Citizen....such as the member who you quoted has....I really start wondering about the level of some peoples intelligence.

A PROGRESSIVE....is a member of society that seeks the right tools for the job....the right answers to solve problems....and looks forward to the day people can see they have more in common with each other than differences.

To disparage even the WORD....Progressive....is utter stupidity.

I am not against progress. When I use the word progressive it is usually attached to the word Liberal which is commonly used to hide the name socialist/communist.
As a society, I believe we have reached the apex of development and that we in a slide downhill. Those who would hasten this process or feed it, is an enemy to the rest of us.
You put up a good post.....

Well thank you but we are no where NEAR the APEX of our Biological Evolution and no where near the apex of our apex of social development.

Human's like all animals are in a constant state of evolution as well all MATTER in the Universe is as well in a constant state of Quantum Evolution.

Our next Biological step will be a LEAP!

    Why?

Because Humanity now has the capability to Genetically Modify our genomes and logical initial steps ALREADY being employed are Disease eradication via both Retro-viral delivered Genetically Modified Cells....as a person who has say....AN INOPERABLE BRAIN TUMOR.....will have a sample of their brain cells in a biopsy Genetically Modified and then either directly injected into the Brain Tumor or if in another area of the body say a tumor in tissue or an internal organ....delivered via the blood stream by a Retro-virus.

Then these Genetically Modified Cells once becoming a part of the Tumor will agressively reproduce by Mitosis and if delivered by Retro-virus explode and infect all Tumor Cells and either kill all tumor cells and enter all healthy cells and reprogram their DNA to be impervious to various diseases.

NANO TECH....such as Nanites....microscopic machines powered by our bodies own biochemistry....could also destroy all Disease cells or Tumors.

Things like Lou Gerigs, AID'S, Muscular Distrophy, Ebola, M.S.,....etc...even the Common Cold....will become things Human's will no longer be eflicted with.

But even more so....IF PROPERLY AND RESPONSIBLY USED....Genetic Engineering will allow us to have our own bodies grow lost limbs, regrow hearts, livers, kidneys, bone....etc....

We can RIGHT NOW....increase Human Lifespan by 50 to 75 years and theoretically could end aging entirely which would mean the necessity of also developing THE UNIFIED FIELD THEORY as we would need more PLANETS surrounding other star systems to avoid extreme overpopulation.

Human Teeth could either be designed harder or perhaps we could have like the shark a never ending supply of replacements.

Human Intelligence and this is tricky as any Quantum Leap in Human Intelligence would also require Genetically Engineering ADVANCED FORMS OF HUMAN EMPATHY.....but Human Intelligence could be increased to levels beyond beliefs and this would be necessary FIRST to develop the Unified Field Theory.

Now I consider myself to be highly intelligent but as smart as I might be I could NEVER visualize an actual 4-D and up Dimensionality and many people are arrogant enough to state that they can...BUT THEY CANNOT!!!

I and others can REPRESENT MATHEMATICALLY AND UNDERSTAND 4-D and up....but no Human Being alive has the ability to VISUALIZE an actual 4-D Construct and up.

Genetic Engineering could allow us to visualize such things without the math.
