Russian forces conducted another large-scale series of missile and drones strikes against Ukraine on the night of April 10 to 11 that caused notable and likely long-term damage to Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. The Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russian forces launched 82 air targets at Ukraine on the night of April 10 to 11, including 20 Kh-101/555 cruise missiles from Saratov Oblast; six Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles from Tambov Oblast; 12 S-300 anti-aircraft missiles from Belgorod Oblast; four Kh-59 cruise missiles from occupied Zaporizhia Oblast; and 40 Shahed-136/131 drones from Primorsko-Akhtarsk, Krasnodar Krai and occupied Cape Chauda, Crimea. Ukrainian forces reportedly shot down 57 air targets, including 16 Kh-101/555 missiles, two Kh-59 missiles, and 39 Shahed drones.

yeah but in terms of land size, Israel is tiny so they can shove loads of AD systems in there.....Ukraine on the other hand is a bitch of a size and you could triple or quadruple their AD systems and it'd make little difference. This is the problem with the "well if we can do that for Israel, why not Ukraine?" argument. The lightshow over Israel cost them about what...USD1Bn....something like that? Well, to Ukraine that isn't sustainable financially or in terms of interceptor availability and production. Its something you can only do a few times. After that you have to hit the source of the problem to stop it launching. Israel can and probably will do that to put an end to it. Ukraine does not have that option or capability especially with the "no Russia" clauses we give them on the good weapons which they don't have anymore....this is the significant difference between what Isreal is allowed to do to defend itself and what Ukraine isn't allowed to do.

 

Other partners and Ukraine's own defense industrial base will have to bear a significant portion of the burden in the longer term.

 

It would be nice if we supported Ukraine as much as we do Israel. It sure was nice of us to shoot down a bunch of those drones and missiles for them, and of course we provide them all the equipment they need.

Ukraine is pursuing three primary lines of effort to achieve this goal: increasing its domestic defense industrial base (DIB), building bilateral and multilateral partnerships with European states, and pursuing industrial joint ventures with the United States and other international enterprises to co-produce defense materials in Ukraine and elsewhere. Ukraine will require considerable Western military assistance for several years, and its ability to reduce its dependence on such assistance depends in part on whether it can liberate strategically vital areas currently occupied by Russian forces, among other factors. But Ukraine and its Western partners are executing a realistic plan to create a sustainable basis for Ukraine to be able to defend itself over the long term with dramatically reduced foreign military assistance. . . .

 

IMO, large critical defense manufacturing facilities are no longer practical.
Smaller concealed, hardened and dispersed industrial units are far harder if not impossible to eliminate.
Such an approach would also bring up production faster than larger more vulnerable projects.
