I love this interview Akala LOOKS like a rough black gang member talks like an Oxford Don and has obviously researched this subject. He is talking about the UK but it is translates across countries. He talks race as well but so many of his points are worth thinking about

 

The reason it’s political is because people like you just pass it by as acceptable and it just sometimes happens without recognizing the culture of violence from the all too common demographic. The reason this needs to be politically addressed is to make Good Samaritan laws that exempt anyone who intervenes from prosecution. We need to defend the good people more.

 

I never heard of him before. I watched the whole thing. He makes some good points. I really loved his comment about mandatory self defense being taught. He dodged the question about why most stabbings in london are done by black people. I also agree with his response of why is that the important part of it and that white crime doesn't get called out for racial aspect, TRUE, but he dodged it but was somehow super knowledgable about the places where whites did more crime. THEN the statistics mattered all of a sudden. I also noticed some passive racism (which I don't think is EVIL or INTENDED) but he had to ask "what would you tell black boys" instead of "all boys" and I like how he called im out but was very polite while doing it and then parlayed that into his next talking point. I also liked that he didn't try to plug his book. When people are humble the respect level on my end shoots up. All in all, more pros than cons and great talking points other than that small dodge.

 

Where did I say it was acceptable? More like customary, maybe, something bothersome that one needs to be vigilant about.

My point is that in NYC, where actual violent crime rates are lower than they are in several red states, it's a given that the police can only spread themselves so far, and nut jobs are often never identified or caught. And yet, New York's violent crime rate is lower than Tennessee, Arkansas, Louisiana, Alabama, South Carolina, Florida, and other GOP-led states.

Thank-you for taking time to watch it. He is passionate about Black History and I have been watching his talk to the Oxford Union on it - very informative and he calls out some of the more egregious “white washing” of history I.e. British claim they were the first country to outlaw slavery without being aggressive or offensive about it. But back to the video I linked to where he describes the SOCIAL interventions that have worked to reduced knife crime

 

Wanting to jail someone for 10 years without trial is the kind of thing the ss did.

Maybe you have them on ignore because someone has said 10 years! They didn't even mention trial, just a straight 10 years, no questions asked.

Way to completely misunderstand what I wrote. You say he should serve zero days. Someone else suggested 10 years. Somewhere between those two outrageous sentences, is a proper punishment.

Maybe they'll catch the man, that's good. They'll arrest him, immediately ewlwase him and case closed, that's bad but it's what elected Democrats want.
