There is not yet a cure for COVID-19, hydroxychloroquine is not a proven treatment, and public health officials concur that everyone should wear face masks in public.

Neither are chugging disinfectants or shining a light up one's trumper efficacious.

However, there is no cure for stupid, either.

Meanwhile, pharmaceutical laboratories are devoted to developing promising drugs into effective Covid-19 treatments and vaccines.

**** a *******ned doctor. Doctors are just like lawyers....they all go to school learning the basics and then take off into specialty fields. So just because someone is a 'doctor' that doesn't make what he says gospel. My brother is a doctor and he says most all of them are a bunch of morons....and I certainly agree. Of course any so-called doctor reading this will get their little feelings hurt (although some would silently agree) but medicine is a simple concept. Doctors don't heal you, your body heals itself. This goes for any ailment. The only thing a doctor can do is give something the body needs to help itself heal (or mask something than can't be healed).

When someone says "I'm a doctor" and "I'm a lawyer" with their 'better than thou' attitude, I just laugh. Throw in politics and then it's just a partisan **** show.

I agree, to a point. I can easily see how people would have rushed the stores and grabbed up any and all masks they could find if Fauci had stated the whole truth at the time. It's sad that we've reached that point as a society.

Elsewhere I even posted the complete CDC tables which are hard to consult because it's a table with about 12 columns and 4,300 rows, showing week by week and state by state the number of deaths by all causes (and you have to keep clicking next next next to move to relevant epicenters), and how it jumped up during the pandemic as compared to the equivalent period in years past. It shows that *something* is happening that is pushing deaths by all causes significantly up, and that's an accurate number because in the United States, if you die you're counted as a death short of you being kidnapped by a serial killer and secretely buried in the serial killer's backyard. What would the *something* be? Could it be by any change the freaking pandemic that is going on?

The idea that deaths are being overcounted is laughable and doesn't hold water when confronted to evidence.

 

Problem is, people rushed and bought masks anyway, and they went sold out anyway.
The shortage of PPE was reason to engage in a war-time effort to domestically make more; not a reason to lie to the population.

I disagree. I think most people would respond positively to an honest request to let medical workers have the limited supply of mask. You must be a liberal if you like being lied to “ for your own good” as some authority figure deems fit.

I've already noticed a change in my area. I was in the hospital recently and the nurses told me they are required to change their masks three times a week. I went for a follow-up appointment yesterday and was asked if I would like a new mask (the time prior to that I was required to remove my own mask and accept their new one). So, maybe there still is some kind of shortage going on. Regardless, we, the public, have a right to know the whole truth so we can make informed decisions to keep ourselves and others safe.

Many people didn't. Masks, sanitizers, etc. were still grabbed up pretty quickly. And, I never said that I agree with being lied to so there is no reason to be condescending.

That's not the case. I said that I understood why he withheld the information (so medical staff had what they needed) but agreed that we should not be treated like children. I never condone lying or lying by omission but that's different than seeing the point from the other side.

 

No, that I know there isn't more domestic production. A poster in another forum who by nature of his business seems to be knowledgeable about this said that China took over even the materials used to make these masks, that is, the blown mesh that goes in-between the inner and outer layers of the ASTM masks and the N95 masks, and even if we wanted to make more we wouldn't be able to get the production up, that fast. We ceded our means of production to China in search of cheap labor and now we're paying the price. We should have kept production of this essential national security item.

What happened is that China delayed by 3 weeks its announcement of the outbreak to the WHO, while they made sure they cancelled all the export contracts and kept all the PPE for themselves. So we ran at an acute PPE shortage.

Now it's easing up a little basically because China got their outbreak under control (or so they claim) and they resumed exporting masks. I've been able to personally buy certified N95s and certified ASTMs from China in 6 occasions lately, and my hospital was able to buy thousands, as well. Still not enough but at least we're no longer told to wear only one mask per day and we're allowed to exchange them more frequently.

3M agreed to import several million N95s from their main factory in China to the American market, thanks to pressure from the White House. Not before they resisted it, wanted to sell them for more money to Canada and South America. And that's supposedly an American company... They only agreed when Trump threatened to invoke the Defense Production Act.
